The world is a complicated place. And sometimes the best way to make sense of it all is to sit down with someone and talk it out. When we begin to speak freely about ourselves, we gain not only the opportunity to be heard and understood- We begin to map the richly resourced, vast, and sometimes difficult terrain of our inner lives. In my experience, the best kind of conversation - the kind that heals, energizes & changes lives - is thoughtfully paced and as free as possible from the pressures and expedience that can sometimes rule our daily lives.
Slower, thoughtful changes tend to be lasting changes. A very reasonable expectation of talk therapy is that vital psychological energies once tied up in neuroses or made unavailable in the form of unexpressed thoughts & feelings begin to come back online. Symptoms are relieved. And life begins to hold a renewed sense of promise.
