Recent Updates From Shelby Somers

It's dangerous to go alone, so don't! Because therapy is tough. Reaching out for help is tough. So why should finding a therapist that understands you be tough? I am a self-described " geek" who believes therapy shouldn't be made any harder than it already is. I believe that knowledge and understanding are the first steps to change. I utilize a biological and neurological approach to understanding the source of behaviors. I invite you to lead the way on our journey together.
I am a licensed social worker (LSW) currently pursuing my clinical license and under the supervision of an LCSW. I received my master’s in Social Work from Rutgers University. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and I have experience working with children, teens, and adults through the use of traditional talk therapy.
I believe that we do not exist in a vacuum and that our mental, emotional, and physical selves are intertwined. As a result, my approach to therapy seeks to focus on the person in their environment and the impact that our environment can have on our mental health. I work to find an approach that works for you rather than you fitting into an approach.
