Have you just gone through a painful breakup? Do you find it difficult to relax and enjoy life? Perhaps you feel misunderstood by those you love. Regardless of the problem you face, you have just taken the first step in healing and improving your life. While each individual's motivation for therapy is unique, I believe the foundation of all successful psychotherapy is a genuine, collaborative relationship between client and therapist. Through empathy, warmth, and a non-judgmental stance, I work with my clients to create an environment of safety and trust, which will instill hope and foster growth.
Within this relationship, I work from a psychodynamic perspective. I believe past experiences impact present functioning. Together, my clients and I explore this connection to relieve distress and improve one's current relationships and life satisfaction. I utilize cognitive-behavioral techniques to help clients alter their thoughts and gain control of their emotional state.
In addition to private practice, I have worked with children and adults in various settings including in-patient and out-patient hospitals, sub-acute rehabilitation centers, a university counseling center, and a private high school. I also have extensive experience helping individuals cope with acute, terminal, and chronic medical problems including HIV/AIDS and cancer.
