NEW Men's Group starting in 2024, see below.... The goal of therapy isn’t to ‘feel better’, although that should be one of the outcomes. The suffering we experience is rarely a defective malfunctioning of the brain- it is in response to real challenges and is an important way to prepare ourselves for a developmental leap. When we are suffering, our brains release hormones that promote ‘neuroplasticity’, our minds begin to reexamine outdated narratives, and our relationships are challenged with the need for deeper vulnerability.
I see my primary task as offering courage, perspective, and insight in the face of suffering, helping you discover what unique outcomes exist on the other side of the pain. While I have a lot of experience with grief and trauma, depression and anxiety, I don't specialize in disorders or treatment approaches, I specialize in people.
Having studied everything from ancient philosophy to the latest neuroscience, I still know that good therapy is always a joint learning process and am always surprised by how much I learn when I forget what I know. If you're interested in finding out what lies beyond the place you feel stuck in, I'd be honored to accompany you through.
