Recent Updates From JD Barton
Last updated | Monday February 17, 2025

I enjoy working with clients who are looking to explore new ways to understand themselves, their relationships, and the reasons for their distress. I think that most of our depression, anxiety, or trauma responses come from a place of protectiveness and if we can learn to have empathy for ourselves in these reactions, we can learn to choose when to double-down and when to let go.
I specialize in identity-affirming Cognitive-Behavior Therapy. This means I work with clients to better understand how your identity (race, gender, sexual orientation, etc) is informing your experience in the world. I work collaboratively with clients to build a stronger foundation of your own identity and to integrate this into your life outside of therapy.
Choosing to begin therapy is a daunting process and I understand that you likely have lots of questions. I'm happy to schedule a brief phone consultation with anyone interested in learning more about my work and my therapy practice.
