Recent Updates From Lou Lipsitz
Last updated | Thursday October 10, 2024

I am interested in our struggles to become ourselves. My decision to become a therapist was based on my own experiences in therapy. Most people come to therapy because they are in pain and life is not working out as they hoped. That means that some of therapy is about the relief of pain and some of it is about a reorganizing of one's life. The experience of therapy also affects the therapist, so I have learned a great deal from my patients. I think "openness" would be a good word to describe my sense of how the process develops.
I specialize in issues that relate to men; also grief work, creativity and life transitions such as divorce, midlife struggles and other major changes. I changed my career in order to become a therapist. This makes me attuned to people's life journeys. I'm a writer and the creative process holds fascination for me.
I have been involved in the "men's movement" for many years and feel connected to issues men face. I also see therapy as a way of taking "time out" to develop skills and appreciate who we are and assess the blocks that prevent us from becoming more fully ourselves.
