*** CURRENTLY NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS *** Therapy offers the opportunity to make lasting positive changes in life and in relationships. By exploring the role the past has played in current difficulties and dissolving old, destructive patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, life can be more balanced and joyful. I offer warmth, compassion, support, and insight to my clients, with an approach that is direct, non-judgmental, and tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual. Oriented toward building on natural strengths and empowering meaningful changes, our work together can foster an increased ability to more adaptively attend to the ever-changing flow of life. Together, we will work toward identifying destructive behavioral patterns and replace them with empathy for ourselves and those around us. Learning the art of non-judgmental awareness - mindfulness - we will explore these themes, connecting more intimately with the memories, emotions, thoughts, and sensations fundamentally associated with them. By exploring unmet childhood and current attachment needs, we learn to conquer self-defeating habits and discover a new way of approaching our thoughts, emotions, and personal behavior. Empowering ourselves to get our basic needs met in this way, we move toward creating greater balance, harmony, and joy in our lives.

Life can sometimes be hard. For many of us there are also challenges to face and difficulties to overcome. If you are in a bad season of life, it may be time to seek assistance to address recurrent or seemingly impossible problems that you face. You may have tried to fix things on your own, or even reached out to family, friends, or others you know without finding much relief. I can provide you with a brief telephone consultation to discuss your concerns or schedule a time to meet with you. I also supervise counselors, so we have a group of therapists to address your particular concerns or needs. I am a seasoned therapist who can provide you with practical understanding and assistance. I can often help sort out difficult or complex psychological problems and assist clients in prioritizing the issues they want to address. I work with children and families, as well as individual adult issues. I integrate a variety of different methods and perspectives based on the presenting needs and concerns of individual clients. Many of the people I work with have had negative life experiences and/or trauma. I approach people with gentleness and empathy. I can help integrate spirituality and a spiritual perspective into the therapy if one desires.

*I am currently full*My therapy focuses on helping adults heal from childhood trauma, learning new ways to think and live in the world, and identify a better understanding of oneself and the relationships with those around them. I enjoy working with adults who have persevered in life and who have the courage to want something better for themselves. Many people in childhood are left to navigate the world alone. The work I do, as a therapist, allows me to walk beside you, in the here and now, and help you navigate through the new and old territory in your life. I am a trauma informed therapist with an attachment and relational focus. I specialize in complex trauma, PTSD, dissociative disorders, anxiety, and depression. I use a variety of techniques to address the individual concerns and needs of my clients, however, there are three different treatment modalities I commonly utilize: EMDR, DBT, and Lifespan Integration. I am currently full and not taking new clients at this time.

I have been a clinical psychologist for over 30 years. I help people with a wide range of human difficulties: depression, anxiety, fear, eating disorders, trauma and the ordinary changes in life's journey. As a seasoned therapist I use an integrated approach, blending several theoretical frameworkds and techniques. Some people come to therapy to know themselves better; others because they are deeply troubled by life's circumstances or inner demons. My job is to help people create the changes they want, and, in the process, undo the shame they often carry into their struggles. New therapies have introduced powerful new tools for resolving trauma.Trained in EMDR and Somatic Expeiencing I have learned psychotherapeutic approaches to mind-body balance that help restore ones sense of safety after accidents, abuse, or struggles with self-destructive patterns of behavior. I pride myself on being both traditionally trained and also open to new approaches to therapy. In all the work I do, I look to make clients feel comfortable, respected and safe. Therapy needs to be a safe harbor.

I have extensive experience working with the elderly population. My background is in medical social work and have worked in the home health and hospice setting for over 20 years. I understand accessing mental health services can be challenging for all of us, especially the geriatric population due to many reasons including transportation, availability of specialized providers, health issues and stigma. Seniors can experience many challenges which can impact their mental health, including loss of independence, physical challenges, chronic pain, grief, cogntive changes and financial concerns. Prioritizing mental health can help us enjoy life more, stay connected to friends/family and help our overall physical health. I provide mobile mental health services. I will come to patients homes, facilities or provide teletherapy. I believe that happiness is not the absense of problems, but the ability to manage them. My desire is to help the geriatric population through developing a trusting relationship, empowering them to live with purpose, dignity and respect.

Do you struggle to get your needs met in your relationships? Perhaps you try repeatedly and fail to achieve harmony? I have a special interest in working with individuals experiencing unhappiness in their important relationships. When my clients first come in, they may feel they are doing the heavy lifting and hope that things will change. Their relationship dissatisfaction gets in the way of the life they want in so many ways. They aren’t the person they strive to be according to their values. They feel like they are failing as a partner and in life. Greater self-confidence and fulfillment are attainable. My experience as a therapist at Duke’s counseling center and on the front lines working with women in abusive relationships at a local agency has provided me with a deep understanding of these challenges and their impact. My hope is also that our time together will provide you with a safe place to express difficult emotions that you may have kept inside for too long. We will also collaborate to achieve your goals. If you want to love yourself again and in your relationships, I’d love to help you get there.

I am interested in our struggles to become ourselves. My decision to become a therapist was based on my own experiences in therapy. Most people come to therapy because they are in pain and life is not working out as they hoped. That means that some of therapy is about the relief of pain and some of it is about a reorganizing of one's life. The experience of therapy also affects the therapist, so I have learned a great deal from my patients. I think "openness" would be a good word to describe my sense of how the process develops. I specialize in issues that relate to men; also grief work, creativity and life transitions such as divorce, midlife struggles and other major changes. I changed my career in order to become a therapist. This makes me attuned to people's life journeys. I'm a writer and the creative process holds fascination for me. I have been involved in the "men's movement" for many years and feel connected to issues men face. I also see therapy as a way of taking "time out" to develop skills and appreciate who we are and assess the blocks that prevent us from becoming more fully ourselves.

I assist individuals in identifying strengths and capacities that may have been overlooked or undervalued. In a safe and supportive space we work together to see how these strengths and capacities may be employed in building new and empowering life narratives. I have twenty-two years experience as a teacher, social worker and counselor. For nine years I worked as an oncology social worker at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. My practice focus is helping people navigate serious and chronic illness, grief and bereavement, life transitions, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges. My practice lens is Narrative Therapy, an approach that highlights people's strengths. I offer both in-person and online appointments.
