I specialize in treating individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Many times trauma/stress/distress result in individuals coping and managing alone and I believe the healing work begins when individuals are able to find trusted others to do the work with. I cultivate a safe environment for healing , while being compassionate, understanding, curious, and non-judgmental. I work from a person centered framework to engage with each client to help them add to their adaptive skills ways to navigate life the way that best fits them. I also use my training with Somatic Experiencing to assist clients with becoming friends with their nervous system, helping it to discharge the negative and stressful energy stored there. Reaching out to someone to deal with things that have happened in your life can be a very intimidating process, yet you are here and that in itself is remarkable and courageous. I would love to join you and walk with you through the rest of your journey.

As we move through life we tell ourselves stories. Stories about who we are and who we think we “should” be; where we come from and where we want to go. Stories about our relationships and our place in this world. As a therapist, my goal is to help you tell your story, to look at it from different perspectives, and change it as you see fit. I take a systems-based approach, acknowledging the importance of how you are impacted by the familial, societal, economic, and political systems your story takes place in. Our mental health does not exist in a vacuum, and how these systems interact play an important role. Building trust and connection in the therapy space is an essential component of our work together. My approach is person-centered and eclectic, drawing on a variety of therapeutic orientations to meet you where you are. My practice is rooted in Mindful Self-Compassion, the power of the nervous system, and the importance of value-based decision making. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma or other mental health challenges, as Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” My hope is to provide a safe and confidential space in which you can begin to write your story of healing.

It is natural to experience pain as well as joy during life. It is not, however, natural to remain in a state of suffering. I believe we are meant to live happy, joyful lives within a background of inner peace. Sometimes life's circumstances throw us off balance and professional help is needed to find our way back. That's what I do, that's my purpose, to help others regain, or possibly even discover for the first time that life is not to be feared or dreaded because of hurtful emotions. View 4 Photos I have 19 years of experience utilizing different types of therapies to address the following: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Problems, Self-Harm or Thoughts of Self-Harm, Feelings of Overall Discontentment, Fear of the Future, Work/School Problems, Childhood Traumas, Unhealthy Patterns and/or Thoughts that lead to undesired results. I have had the benefit in my career to travel and practice in different parts of the U.S. including Alaska, providing me with a deeper understanding of different beliefs about life, spirituality, and death among different people. Therefore I am able to apply a more expansive perspective therapeutically.

We can all become bogged down by intense emotions that create a hurdle to our ability to function in life, most often at the detriment of success or being able to achieve what we feel are simple tasks in life. I work with clients to help them uncover and make sense of emotional barriers that have plagued them for far too long, often dismissed by others in their lives. Being accepted unconditionally, regardless of background, orientation, or presentation, in a therapeutic setting, you can find more personal potential and free yourself of the "rules" prescribed by the outside world and finally find yourself, the person that matters. You're doing everything in your power to create happiness in your life the best way you can, but perhaps others do not understand or maybe notice what you're doing? It's past time to find who YOU are, define your own path in life, and break away from the expectations and pressures around you. I am honored to work with you during this healing process.

I have been told that I am a good listener. This is an essential quality in a good therapist but it is by no means sufficient. Throughout my training, I have collected what I believe to be the most effective strategies and perspectives for bringing about change in a person's behaviors and beliefs that is consistent with who the individual wishes to be. I am particularly proud that I have been able to work effectively with people of broadly varying belief systems in ways that enable them to call on already existing internal resources to improve their lives within their own personal environment. I most often utilize an ego-state perspective to access and restructure internal resources. I prefer this approach because it effectively brings about change in both thought and feeling and results in durable change that will hold up well over time and situations, rather than sliding back into past unproductive habits and processes. I have extensive training and experience with clinical hypnosis in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, addictions and somatic complaints such as chronic pain or irritable bowel syndrome. I have served as an Approved Consultant through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and I am a Past President of the Arkansas Psychological Association
