My name is Dr. Zamani (she/her) and I am a queer Afghan-American mixed licensed doctor in marriage & family therapy. I specialize in working with Complex Trauma for folks who have been exposed to consistent stressful experiences throughout their development ranging from childhood trauma, displacement, financial instability, and abandonment. Since I went to school for 9 years and had to complete a doctoral exam and dissertation, I have a wide range of knowledge and experience working from different therapy modalities and approaches. Most of which originate from eastern teachings and indigenous practices. I particularly like to utilize a family systems/social justice/trauma-informed lens while incorporating experiential, internal family systems (IFS), and mindfulness interventions. My passion is in working with BIPOC/mixed/queer folks, partnerships, parent-child relationship, sexual trauma survivors, complex trauma, ambiguous loss, and friendship loss. I center the therapist-client relationship and check in for feedback to ensure you are getting what you want out of our time together. In addition to being a therapist I am also a professor and supervise other growing therapist. I am passionate about the work I do. Reach out to me if you have any questions!

When deciding if your child or adolescent could benefit from therapy services, it can be a stressful experience fueled by uncertainty. Whether your child is struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, managing emotions/behavior, social skills, or issues at school, the goal of therapy is to identify the underlying cause and help the child develop the skills and tools necessary to better manage life's challenges. While addressing an individual child's specific challenges, it is also important to engage parents and other family members to identify how to best support long term positive change within the family unit. Each child and situation is unique, so I tailor therapeutic interventions specific to what each client needs. Like for parents, starting therapy can sometimes be confusing and stressful for children. I bring a calm and compassionate energy to my work, using humor and my ability to engage playfully to build rapport and trust to engage clients in therapy. If you feel that your child or adolescent may benefit from therapy, feel free to reach out to me for a phone consultation to discuss your concerns and how I may be able to help.

I believe all people are people first, no matter what. Tapping into who you are and being seen can take some courage, especially at the beginning. I use a client-centered approach to help my clients feel seen in order to get the most out of therapy. Different approaches resonate with different people. I believe that meeting people where they are now is a good place to begin. I tend to take a person-centered and experiential perspective toward the therapeutic process. Together we can figure out what works for you. You do not need to carry your burdens alone.

It can be so discouraging to feel that you have put everything you have into a relationship and still find yourself unhappy on a daily basis. No matter how many different ways you have tried to approach your loved one, there seems to be no improvement. You have heard the full array of promises, excuses and arguments, and begin to believe it is all your fault at the end of the day. Perhaps you have made attempts to get your spouse into couples therapy, or agonized over whether to make your teen to go to therapy or not. Despite your best efforts, the situation continues to deteriorate, and your wellbeing along with it. Relationships do not need to feel like unending work. Imagine a reality in which your loved one is no longer adding to your stress. Picture a life in which you can take care of yourself and engage in your interests without feeling guilty. I help individuals find relationship satisfaction through the work of finding wholeness in themselves first. There can be many barriers that stand in the way of taking action toward desired change. I provide flexible scheduling including evening appointments and telehealth when appropriate. For more information on my experience and training, or to schedule a free phone consultation please visit my website and provide your information on the contact page.
