Highly sensitive people are my specialty. Engaged mutual conversation is my style. Solution focused problem solving is my process. Helping people with high emotional sensitivity develop improved self-perception, more effective coping skills and increased satisfaction in their relationships is a priority in the work I do. Arriving together at new ways of perceiving people and the world opens up possibilities that weren’t accessible before. Integrating exploration into all areas of a clients’ life help provide a holistic framework of understanding, compassion and intentional growth. We will work together to develop strategies of change, building on the person you already are and not by trying to reinvent you. Better choices create better outcomes that build increased personal confidence and resilience. You will feel cared for and challenged in the process of our work together. I work with couples and polyamorous relationships, aging issues, depression and anxiety, chronic illness and hospice, social anxiety, self-esteem and overall life balancing. Please reach out to see if we are a good fit to work together and if I can answer any questions you might have in your process of finding the right therapist to trust.

My clinical approach is based on Solution-Focused Short-Term Therapy. I believe strongly that each client comes to therapy equipped with the inherent strengths and abilities necessary to uncover and implement the steps required to resolve the difficulties facing him or her. I see my role in that process as being one of assisting my client to heighten their awareness of, and access to, those strengths. I help my client become aware of all the possibilities for change and then collaborate with them in the creation of alternative solutions. (Note: Accommodations to my fees will be considered on an individual case basis). My affinity and skill set for working with both Adolescents and Couples has been fine-tuned over the years and evolved into separate, yet often related, specialty areas to which I am particularly well suited. Clients of all ages and lifestyles are always welcome and are a vital part of my practice. Previously, I worked for 20 years in Corporate Sales & Marketing, including 10 years in private ownership of my own company. I find this varied experience adds to my effectiveness across a broad spectrum of issues faced by my clients, especially those grappling with balancing their personal and professional lives.

I look forward to working with any psychological issues, but especially with clients expressing a sincere, motivating desire to change their life. I work with individuals (children & adults) and couples experiencing both deeper, long-term difficulties as well as more situational, short-term problems. While I work to help patients alleviate acute symptoms, it is often possible & advantageous to resolve the underlying causes of anxiety & depression in particular. My doctoral work also focused on Organizational Development. Clients facing work-related issues usually find this added perspective and training helpful. I am a licensed psychologist who has been providing psychotherapy since 1979. I was trained at the UCSF Psychiatric Out-Patient Dept. and in Europe (U. of Leuven, Belgium) and bring to the session a broad understanding of psychological issues & symptoms. My office is located in San Francisco in a quiet, mostly residential area. In addition to diagnosing and treating presenting distressful symptoms and conditions, I believe that it is essential for the psychotherapist and patient each to understand the specific, individual experience of the patient in order for the therapy to be successful.
