My practice is primarily focused in working with couples and families. As an advanced level Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, I am careful to ensure that everyone in the room with me feels heard and understood. I work with couples dealing with affairs, addictions, loss and trauma, as well as couples who just want to deepen their already strong connection. I welcome all families, traditional and non-traditional. I work from a theoretical model that emphasizes the importance of adult and childhood attachment. I am also an experienced EMDR practitioner with many years experience treating trauma, PTSD, and addictions. My method of couples treatment is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). A short term structured approach, EFT is extensively researched with studies showing 70% to 75% of couples move from distress to recovery, often accompanied by decreased symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD, within 10 - 12 sessions.

Offering ONLINE sessions. It’s really hard to be a woman. We feel like all the pressure is on us and we keep trying so hard to do it perfectly, but life still isn’t going the way we planned. We have the pressure of career, fertility, parenting, romantic relationships, time for a social life, and then we notice the past we’ve been running from creeping up on us. It can be exhausting, not to mention overwhelming. And is anyone talking about how hard it can be to get pregnant? It feels like our bodies are failing us, and no one understands. Instead people make insensitive comments which makes us feel even more alone. And what about being a new mom? It’s different than we expected. It’s definitely not like our friends' pictures on social media. No one seems to understand how we’re feeling, not even our partner. We're sleep deprived, everyone is telling us about how to “mom” the right way, and we just feel bad. We may even have thoughts that are really scary. If you find yourself worrying all the time, if you're struggling on your fertility journey, if you're a new mom feeling really bad, or if your relationship isn't going the way you imagined, know you're not alone. We offer the tools to help you find ease in life. No need to feel stuck. Let Well Roots Counseling help you to be gentle with yourself.

At any point in life, by circumstance or choice, we may lose our internal compass. Maybe you’re stuck on autopilot, weighed down by your own thoughts, or drifting aimlessly through life. You may wonder why certain relationships feel strained and why you can’t seem to fix it. Acquiring a deeper understanding for what drives our behavior can help us regain direction and realign our internal compass. Meaningful change comes from embracing our shadows, our unwanted thoughts, and emotions. It is in this discomfort that we find growth. However, the idea of doing this alone can feel daunting. In my role as therapist, I act as a guide to embrace the messiness that is life by being curious about it. As curiosity is an essential contributor in the foundation of wisdom. In session we will focus on skill development through nonjudgmental self-exploration that helps us meet your needs and resolve the conflict that brings you to session. I offer a safe place to explore the challenges and disruptions we experience by offering honest, reflective, and direct conversation. While also empowering you to bring about adaptive change. Curiosity and courage brought you this far, when you’re ready for the next step. Give me a call.

I am passionate about serving adolescents and their families. As a husband of 34 years and a parent of three young adults, I have many valuable life experiences as well as certified clinical training to both professionally counsel and coach this group of clients. This period of development is complex, filled with countless possibilities and ever changing. Secure attachment and attunement are critical for healthy relationships. The adolescent knows that I care a great deal for their overall well being and individual successes. The parents know I care a great deal about their family values and individual opportunities for fulfillment. Raising a teenager is always a challenge, it can also be very rewarding. Stress and anxiety provide opportunities for self awareness and growth. Communication and conflict resolution skills are very important for solution focused problem solving. Trauma and mood disturbances complicate matters. Resolution and reconciliation provide transformation and healing. Before obtaining my clinical degree and license, I spent twenty-six years in corporate management. I trained and managed a sales force of more than 125 people, supporting both the individual and their growing family. I interned at a youth detention facility for one year. I bring a rare understanding and compassion to my clients.

I know that as a parent, you want to imagine a wildly successful and happy future for your child. Watching them struggle with family and friends, act out in school, and/or participate in risky behaviors like substance use or self harm can turn that hope into devastating worry as you see them in pain and feel helpless to heal it. It may feel impossible to support them alone- and you don't have to. With research backed strategies and years of experience, I can help teens work through their struggles and towards a brighter future. In therapy, I help teens and young adults dig deeper into their learned beliefs and behavior. In this process, we learn the roots of their difficulty and then work together to build new awareness and skills leading to the roads that take them where they want to go. No one gets better alone. At Roots and Rhodes, you will find a compassionate, understanding, and safe place for support. Let's get started down the path you wish to go!

I believe that change happens when we go on endlessly creating ourselves. I offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a short-term form of trauma therapy. Our work together will consist of diminishing the limiting negative beliefs that interrupt your everyday life and decreasing the distressing emotional and physical responses to traumatic memories and experiences. ART uses a combination of creative visualization, somatic awareness, and eye movements to quickly and gently transform the way you remember and respond to past traumatic experiences. ART is also proven effective in treating depression, grief, anxiety and phobias. My approach can be tailored to your needs to also include cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness and other psychodynamic approaches.

Because of the hurt I have experienced in my life I have become passionate about sitting with people as they sift through the darkest parts of themselves. I received my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University and have received formal training in Eye Movement Desensitization/Reprocessing (EMDR) and Motivational Interviewing. I balance kindness and directness as a therapist, while incorporating my sense of humor into the relationship. I primarily work with adolescents and adults, and work with a myriad of struggles including grief, trauma, addiction, and attachment issues. I believe we live in the present moment with a lens of our past, which is why part of my therapeutic approach revolves around working through past hurt. My goal is to help clients navigate through life without their past weighing them down, as well as helping clients accept themselves as they are. I do this through a psychodynamic and existential approach. I currently am only seeing CO clients virtually, but can see CA clients virtually or in person. If you feel like we could be a good fit, please feel free to reach out and schedule a session or a free consultation!
