An accomplished practitioner with 30 years of notable credentials and multifaceted expertise, clients of all backgrounds and ages have taught me that our lives are not defined by what happens to us but by how we respond to our circumstances; therapy is about collaboratively finding new and effective responses to life. Utilizing and integrating a variety of approaches, in the context of a caring relationship, I help adolescents and adults cope with: the effects of stress, divorce, loss; relationship & work dissatisfaction; depression, anxiety; alcohol & drug abuse; and family-of-origin dysfunction. Known for a thoughtful yet straightforward manner, I offer brief consultations or longer treatment as determined by your goals and issues. I build on people's strengths and help them to accept their limitations. As a recovery therapist, I work closely with individuals, and/or their families, who are recovering from a trauma, addiction or loss. I also conduct substance abuse assessments for the purpose of helping individuals and their families determine whether a substance use disorder is present and to decide upon the necessary level of care. A frequently requested public speaker, I also consult to mental health agencies, supervise other therapists, and offer agency-wide training.

The best way to gain control of your out of control life is to focus on the strengths you already have and fine tune your weaknesses so that you can find the inner peace and happiness you will need to help you grow and thrive. The goal of our work together is designed to help you work through your struggles one step at a time and to offer you a fresh perspective and new approaches to problem solving. My clinical approach is a combination of short-term solution focused psychotherapy with a cognitive behavioral approach. We will also incorporate some life coaching techniques as well with the goal being self-empowerment. I work with individuals, families and couples who are dealing with conflicts, life transitions, and stress management. I have a particular interest in working with families who are caring for children with special needs. Special needs affects the entire family not just the caretaker; I want to make this process easier for you and your whole family. I graduated from Clark University with a BA and received a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from New York University. I walked away from practice to raise a family and after my third child was born with special needs I knew it was time for me to return to my clinical roots and help others who are facing similar challenges.

In my practice I offer expert assessment, in-depth understanding and ongoing, practical guidance to parents of children from infancy through adolescence. I am an extensively trained and experienced child psychologist, with degrees from Columbia, Harvard and Boston Universities. I have an exceptional understanding of my discipline and a broad range of treatment options at my disposal. I feel strongly that treatment and guidance should be carefully matched to the needs of the individual child and family. My intention is to be of help to each client - whether a toddler, a teenager or a parent - empathically and wisely. My means are careful understanding, followed by candid recommendations which may include therapy, parental guidance sessions, or specialized referral to my large network of experts. I have lived in Fairfield County for most of my life and raised my family here. I appreciate all the opportunity and joy our "hometowns" offer. I am also aware of the many challenges that children and families can encounter in our settings. It is my chosen profession to help you to not only meet those challenges but also to thrive as you grow.
