I work exclusively with couples to create a secure functioning relationship where collaboration, cooperation and communication are enhanced. I believe all decisions in the relationship must serve both the individual and the couple for mutual harmony. Too often life is challenging, my hope for all couples is they can begin to see one another as trusted allies, the one who provides shelter from the storm, and the place where they find safety and security. I work with couples seeking premarital support, communication issues, intimacy, sex, parenting, infertility, betrayal, remarriage, step-parenting, finance, or breaking up. As a trained couples therapist I work with the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) developed by Dr. Stan Tatkin. As an avid learner and someone deeply committed to the well-being of my couples I continue to pursue ongoing training directly from Dr. Tatkin and his team of certified clinicians. There is nothing more rewarding for me than to see couples create increased secure functioning in their relationship and gain tools that will change their partnership for a lifetime. Using the PACT framework I work with longer sessions (3-hour intake and 2-hour subsequent sessions). Together we set our relationship goals and track our progress closely.

I work best with those who are interested in and motivated to deeply explore and understand themselves in the service of lasting growth. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, grief, OCD, relationship concerns, family-of-origin difficulties, and feelings of isolation and disconnection. I also have a strong interest in working with individuals with marginalized identities who present with identity-related challenges, especially when living in a context that doesn't support- or actively works to oppress- those identities. To help facilitate the hard work of change, I integrate psychoanalytic theory with other approaches a patient might need. I am invested in helping patients cultivate a better understanding of, and the ability to change, those patterns of behavior that prevent them from being in their life in the ways that they wish. Now accepting new clients (UI Gradcare, SHIP, UIChoice) - near campus in Northside of Iowa City & on bus routes > For so many of us, life can be overwhelming, disorienting, and difficult. In working with you, my hope is to have an opportunity to slow down, to be curious, and to uncover deeper meaning and connections within ourselves and in relating to others. Your particular knowledge, challenges, experiences, and expertise will be listened to carefully and sensitively responded to with transparency, kindness, and compassion. It is my commitment to greet you in each session with trust, a calm presence, and unconditional hospitality. I approach therapy through relational, collaborative, and existential frameworks. I am drawn to working with stories and metaphors for the ways they may provide access to emotions and language to better understand who we are, what matters, and how we find - or rediscover - energy and comfort, particularly in the context of life transitions, grief, and loss. I have a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mount Mercy University. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families - offering therapy services that are affirming and welcoming to all. I appreciate your interest and earnestly look forward to being there alongside you in the process of dialogue, meaning-making, and growth.

Check out Open Path Collective if you need an alternative to insurance. I have a certificate of completion in multiple trainings including EMDR, ACT, and CBT. Life is about connection with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. Unfortunately, not all of us were raised in ways that makes it easy to make those connections, leaving us feeling distant, numb, anxious, confused, or frustrated. Therapy provides the space for you to say what you really think and feel, in confidence, and without the fear of judgment. It’s the holding of this space, and the development of different life-skills that allows us to build the connections you're looking for in your life. View 5 Photos I provide therapy that demystifies the process for my clients. Therapy isn’t about mind-reading or magic. It’s about uncovering your true self through radical honesty, learning and practicing life-skills that you can take into your everyday life, and making deep and lasting connections with the people in it. My experience as a therapist has taught me that regardless of past or current situations, everyone has the potential for growth. If you're stuck, confused, numb, frustrated, angry, feeling disconnected from yourself and others, or just looking for perspective, I'm here to help. Call, email, or visit my website to schedule an appointment.

The therapists at United Action for Youth have a unique ability to engage teenagers in individual adolescent psychotherapy. They balance listening with talking; they don't lecture or blame; they tailor their style to increase the youth's comfort. UAY therapists have expertise in the areas that are common concerns for teens, parents, and young adults. Although our focus is serving youth 10-25, we can also provide services for adults if space is available. Our therapists are trained to treat depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, behavioral problems, family conflict, grief, self-harm (cutting), and the consequences of physical and sexual abuse. We work with families to build healthy relationships. We are a SAFEZONE for the LGBTQ community, offering a safe and inclusive environment. Navigating mental health issues with your adolescent can be a confusing and difficult process. We are passionate about helping youth and families better understand mental health and work to meet their therapeutic and family goals.
