Life can be bleak, challenging, and overwhelming at times. Life can also be joyful, life-giving, and hopeful. Holding tensions is a major facet of who we are as human beings. Often feeling in crisis on this journey, trying to balance our approach, and maintaining contradictions of brokenness and wholeness. My own journey has reflected much of this- in many ways I have suffered indescribable trauma; while in others I have experienced life altering joy. Each journey is incredibly unique and complex, and as human beings we have an innate desire to navigate our stories with the love, support, and friendship of others. I mostly come from the Psychoanalytic tradition, which places a heavy emphasis on the complexity of each individual’s mind, and how that complexity relates and connects to the individual’s story. We will work together to uncover all that exists in your unconscious mind, and reveal those areas of your life that need to be processed, and given congruence. Unconditional positive regard is a staple of the counseling profession; and one that I take very seriously. Your identity and your experiences are sacred and I can promise you that every facet of who you are and the vulnerability that you share will be treated with the utmost respect. Please don't hesitate to reach out and I would be honored to walk with you

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, or relationship problems? I have been providing psychological services since 1998, and have been in private practice since 2002. I deliver compassionate and professional psychological evaluation and psychotherapy to the people of Holland, Zeeland, and surrounding areas. I offer cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety, depression, anger, and other issues. This is my clinical foundation, but I also recognize that flexibility is important, so I maintain an eclectic approach--a willingness to adapt to the needs of clients. Regarding relationship counseling, I draw heavily on Gottman's theories and techniques. I consider it an honor and a privilege to be invited into the challenges and celebrations of the lives of my clients, and to walk alongside them as they face life's trials. If you are struggling, and feel like you could benefit from professional and compassionate support and guidance, I would consider it a privilege to work with you to reach your goals.

I work with youth, young adults, adults, and families who struggle with many of today's life challenges. Issues such as anxiety, anger, depression, school/work problems, loss/grief, divorce, etc. are things that I help individuals and families to effectively deal with. Everyone wants to be healthy and happy. Unfortunately life throws a lot of curve balls and this can be easier said than done. Discovering strengths and helpful ways of coping are ways to better ensure happiness and health. View 5 Photos I utilize a strengths-based approach where I identify positive characteristics that will help lay the ground work to create positive change. I am not afraid "to go there" in identifying and communicating some of the reasons why certain behaviors are occurring. Finally, I use CBT to develop and practice positive skills to effectively respond to stressors. As the parent of a child with "big emotions" I know the difficulty that many parents face with raising children in today's high tech and fast-paced world. I invite you to give me a call or send me an email to discuss how I might be able to help you and your family.

Life is ever-changing; sometimes expected and sometimes unexpected. During these seasons of change, do you find yourself stuck, alone, or just trying to survive? It takes courage to reach out for support, to take steps to explore your life’s story and discover the wisdom already inside of you. I enjoy working with primarily adult women struggling through a life transition, college stress, medical issue, caregiver burnout, trauma, anxiety/perinatal anxiety, or grief. My clients desire to connect to an internal sense of sturdiness that allows them to live more empowered, hopeful and meaningful lives. I strive to provide a compassionate, gentle, safe, and trustworthy environment that fosters a strong, therapeutic relationship. I operate from a holistic therapy approach that is person-centered and draws on the strengths of my clients. My approach integrates a variety of theories to help clients gain a better understanding of themselves and their emotions. I am dedicated to creating a non-judgmental and empathic space where my clients feel seen and heard. I value and honor the unique story of each client, as well as the vulnerability it takes to reach out for support. Together, we will hold curiosity about your struggles and begin a journey of growth and healing.
