“Just a small-town girl, living in a lonely world…” Hi there! I never thought I’d have a good excuse to use a Journey song as my introduction, but here we are! I am a small-town girl; I grew up in Willard, graduated from Willard, and have returned. While driving home for Christmas in 2015, I realized Willard needed a counseling center--and I have officially taken the leap! My hope is this can help Willard and the smaller surrounding towns not have to drive all the way to Springfield. "Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable..." - Mr. Fred Rogers View 4 Photos Like the Journey song, I realize the world can be a terribly lonely, scary, devastating, hard place at times; sometimes it’s because of our own choices, or sometimes it’s because of choices other people have made and have hurt us. Either way, the hurt is real, and it deserves to be seen and healed. No problem is too big or small. I am excited to meet you! I can honestly say I love what I do, and I am thankful for that. My goal is to always have that passion show in my work with you. I will be welcoming, interactive, and--best of all--human! I focus on being client-centered to meet you where you're at with your own goals and hopes.

I look forward to working with clients whose life path may have created difficulties for them that has led them not be the best of who they can be. Each individual's path may have been sprinkled with physical or emotional abuse, neglect, assault, grief and loss, domestic violence, marital or parental discord or a myriad of other situations. Sometimes these life paths create in my clients a feeling of hopeless and loss of self-worth, sometimes these path end with someone needing to determine a plan to leave an unsafe living situation. Sometimes these paths lead to turning to substances and illegal drugs to cope with the internal turmoil and pain. It is my privlege to work with clients to help them identify and bring forth the best of who they are and what they want for their life, their family and their future through their own individual strengths. I have been extensively trained to understand how trauma affects the pathways in the brain that leads to anxiety, depression, poor decision making, broken relationships, loss of jobs, sleeping and eating disorders. Through the use of my training in "talk" therapy, grief and loss certification, Trauma - Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, motivational interviewing, EMDR training, and extensive substance abuse training, together with the client we develop the best approach to moving from a place of being unwell, to a place of balance and renewal. If you are someone who is suffering from depression, anxiety, or other difficult life situations, I won't tell you that I know "how you feel" as I am not you. I will diligently work openly with you to understand your unique self, sit with you to find resolution to your specific problems and together develop the best plan for moving you toward a more healthy you. I will be both an empathetic listener, and also provide feedback and direction, in order to meet your needs. I offer multiple days and times including nights and weekends to accomidate your daily life schedule.

I find that many people coming to therapy would like to have their problem clearly defined and a solution laid out, but they also don't want to rush to a conclusion or miss the big picture. I believe the kind of help on offer in therapy is one of fundamental change. As in The Wizard of Oz, each sets out on the quest so that they can receive what they lack, but they discover along the way that they have changed to truly become what they lacked. This sort of change is the special kind that I work to help people achieve. I am an artist who has taken a round-about path into my dual calling as a therapist. In all the work I've done, there is nothing that enriches or energizes me more than connecting with another person in the therapy room. I consider myself privileged to be able to do this work. My foundation is Person-Centered, but I'm flexible, curious, and always learning. Email or call me with any questions you may have, and, when you're ready, we can schedule a 50-min consultation session to see if I truly am the right therapist for you. Also, you should know, I do my best to offer affordable talk therapy so if the $85 cost per session is ever unaffordable for you, I can reduce that to $65, no questions asked.

My ideal client resonates with at least one of the following statements: 1) You are often told how smart you are, but you think you’ve just managed to fool everyone and are worried that one day they’ll see the “real” you. 2) You are a naturally excitable and passionate person, even if you don’t always show it on the outside. 3) People often tell you to “stop thinking about it so much,” but your thoughts don’t stop. You’re not sure you could even imagine a mind where nothing is happening. My clients want to feel like they know themselves, have confidence, and that past negative experiences do not determine who they are. View 7 Photos I specialize in guiding gifted and neurodivergent individuals who are looking to heal from trauma, learn how to better manage intrusive negative thoughts and emotions, and understand themselves more deeply. I believe that each person's path to healing is unique, so I adapt my therapy techniques to your specific situation, strengths, and needs. I am twice-exceptional myself which gives me an extra layer of insight into the experiences of gifted and neurodivergent individuals. I value honesty, openness, and mutual respect in the client-therapist relationship. If you resonate with my approach, please visit my website or contact me for more information.

I believe that healing and growth takes place in the context of relationships - both in our relationship with ourselves, and in our relationships with others. Unfortunately, sometimes our relationships become distant, disconnected and a place of conflict, leaving us with unmet needs and just feeling “stuck.” We don’t feel safe asking for what we need, and maybe don’t even know what we need ourselves. The therapeutic relationship in counseling provides an authentic and safe place in which healing can begin to take place. My goal is to provide you with a space where you feel seen and heard; where you feel safe to explore your story and your experiences - as a couple, or individually; a space where you can do the courageous work of honestly working through some of the hard things, in a way that moves you towards a deeper sense of wholeness and connection. I use the Gottman Method in my work with couples, and also to inform my work with individuals. I also use EMDR and CBT to address anxiety and trauma. If you'd like to meet and learn more, please reach out and I would be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation with you.
