My name is Julia and I am an independently licensed Maine clinical social worker and owner of Ash Point Counseling. I am not accepting new clients at this time. If you are reading these words, you already have the knowledge within you to make the changes you are here to make. I am here as an ally to help elicit that self-wisdom, promote love and honor the resiliency that led you to this point. I am adaptable, holistic, and I genuinely love what I do. I chose this field to be a witness and guide to the profound process of a person reconnecting with themselves and allowing for the reconnection to things that are a part of that self. I work with individuals who identify as female of any age and have experience with anxiety, depression, LGBTQAI, grief and loss, substance use, alcohol use, and growth and development. I specialize in working with college age adults and supporting health care providers. I offer individual counseling to adolescents, young adults and adults, in person and via secure and confidential telehealth video. I am also a registered Affiliate with Health Affiliates Maine. If you are fully vaccinated and feeling well, I encourage most of our time together to be in-person sessions.

I believe that therapy is a collaboration between therapist and client. My goal is to help you to live a full and satisfying life; through self-awareness, more flexible and creative coping skills, improved self-esteem and an increasing ability to make better decisions on your own behalf. I am able to form a therapeutic bond with a great variety of people and I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship. With post-graduate training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Trauma Informed Expressive Arts Therapy and Mind Body Medicine I am well suited to assist people who struggle with mood and anxiety disorders, grief, past trauma and life transitions. I am particularly interested helping people use the expressive arts in therapy for personal growth and healing. I create a warm, trusting environment in which you can feel safe to express your feelings, and reflect on your relationships, disappointments and successes. My goal is to help you explore your life so that you can heal your losses, make the changes you want, and feel good about yourself.

I offer integrative psychotherapy specializing in a mindfulness-centered form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I have over 20 years experience treating anxiety, depression, grief/ loss, trauma, body image, chronic illness, stress, relationship issues, and working with life transitions from a holistic perspective. My work focuses on helping people strengthen capacities to cope with the challenges of their lives, recover an authentic sense of self, and deepen into healthy, resonant relationships. My focus is to engage in a collaborative effort to support discovering one's potential and a life that is worth celebrating. Therapy can provide a safe space where we can learn to relate to ourselves, and to others, with authenticity and compassion. Becoming aware, in the moment, of what keeps us stuck can give us the opportunity to respond to situations with intentionality, instead of repeating unhelpful old patterns. I strive to provide a safe, caring, and compassionate environment where you can explore new ways of being and relating. I like to introduce mindfulness into sessions as a way of slowing down and coping with difficult thoughts or emotions. Please contact me with any questions you may have. I offer web-based video counseling and phone sessions.

Welcome! I enjoy working with children, adults, couples and families. A main focus of my practice is grief counseling. I am certified in thanatology and have a special interest in providing support to individuals and families after traumatic loss. I also have extensive experience working with those who are seeking help for depression and anxiety or who would like to improve their capacity to cope with stress, relationships, and life transitions. I use a variety of research-supported, restorative approaches including narrative, cognitive behavioral, EMDR, and mind/body strategies as well as expressive arts modalities tailored to the interests, needs, and strengths of each client. I work collaboratively with my clients to promote resilience and wellbeing. For couples seeking to enrich or restore their relationship, I draw from two models that are backed by substantial research: The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Couples find a sense of renewal and hope from these practical, optimistic approaches that provide a pathway to deeper emotional connection.

Therapy is an experience of collaboration and trust. I tailor my approach to each individual’s needs and preferences. I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment and work from a strength-based perspective. I am interactive, not shying away from giving feedback, but fundamentally believe each individual has the capacity to set their own goals and measure their own success. I have extensive experience treating adults with a variety of disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and with those suffering from maladaptive coping strategies. I also work with individuals who are unhappy with their relationships, their careers and those having difficulty with life transitions. I have worked with those trying to reconcile a history of abuse and/or neglect and those attempting to navigate and adjust to unexpected changes in one’s life. I appreciate working with those that present to therapy with a curiosity to understand themselves more fully. I utilize evidence-based practices drawing on Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Mindfulness and psychodynamic approaches, to assist you in understanding and addressing issues that prevent you from living a “life worth living.”

I'm sorry, I am not accepting new clients. Hi, I'm Hannah! It can feel challenging to think about starting therapy and overwhelming to know what brings you or your family to seek support. What I know about therapy is that the best fit is usually based on the relationship between the therapist and the client (you). A lot of the time therapy is about how you feel talking to and sitting with that person. I look forward to connecting with you regarding office based therapy or Ecotherapy. Ecotherapy is about healing with nature, connecting to the environment and often takes place outdoors. I am experienced with children, teens, and adults. I have a background in family therapy and am certified in ecopsychology. I approach my work from a humanistic lens and incorporate expressive arts, psychodynamic, and solutions focused modalities. I have experience working with trauma, attachment, depression, anxiety, transitions, ADHD and LGBTQIA+ clients. My focus is to help you connect, evolve, expand, and become aware of your strengths and skills. Whether you choose to meet in the office or outdoors I provide a grounding safe space, listen to your hopes, goals, struggles and work to meet you where you are at. We will create a plan to help you meet your goals and find a path toward healing.

"Superman's not brave. You can't be brave if your indestructible, its everyday people like you and me that are brave knowing we could easily be defeated but still continue to move forward"-unknown. It is a huge gift to be able to witness someone who had little hope become that person they always dreamed of! To give just one person the gift of hope; that is priceless. I have found that most people "in recovery", they are strong amazing people! You've overcome so much already, use those assets for your recovery instead of active addiction. View 4 Photos I have worked in the addiction field 13 years now. I came into the field with 15+/- years of personal experience, living thru my own active addiction. I had to do my own "research" before entering into the profession. Recovery has become my passion. I love hearing stories of bravery and courage all that brought you to today. I studied "replacement" therapies throughout my schooling and I still have a great interest in "mediation assisted recovery". I have witnessed people who find success with medications can feel shunned, even shamed; made to feel they are not "in recovery". I am a believer that if your life is getting better then who is to say if you are "in recovery" or not?

Currently full and not taking new clients. In more than 25 years as a psychologist, I've cultivated a profound respect for the ways people reshape their lives despite daunting problems. I see my role as helping you understand how a particular problem is working, noticing moments you are living more according to your own designs, and solidifying these changes. Couples are a particular interest of mine. I meet with couples trying to decide if they are a good fit for a committed relationship; couples who want to undo habits of conflict that diminish connection; and long-term couples who find they've drifted into parallel lives. I also work with individuals around significant life transitions such as divorce, job change, illness, or experiences of "midlife crisis." I value the privacy of the therapeutic interaction, and for that reason I am increasingly shifting away from work with insurance companies, toward work as a private pay therapist or out of network provider. We therapists often highlight our own theoretical approaches, yet a good deal of literature suggests that the connection between therapist and client may be more predictive of good outcomes than any particular technique. I look forward to speaking with you about whether I would be a good match for your concerns.

I value humor, honesty, direct communication, and deep personal connection in the therapeutic relationship. While I’m trained in many types of therapy to provide treatment unique to each client, I gravitate to the deep internal work performed with Internal Family Systems, Emotion-Focused, Experiential, and Narrative therapies. I am an iRest Yoga Nidra meditation teacher and yoga teacher, and can use this style of meditation or movement collaboratively for self-exploration and/or regulation during sessions. I have supported individuals, couples, and families on a variety of issues including sexual trauma, depression, death/dying/grief, identity issues, premarital counseling, infidelity, relational ambivalence, life transitions, and marital conflict. I provide couples, family, and individual therapy working mainly from a humanistic approach, with some elements of the psychodynamic perspective. I am also experienced with the treatment of eating disorders. I focus on identifying personal and relational patterns. If I were looking for a therapist; I'd be hunting for the person that would listen & reflect on what they heard; offer advice that aligned with the problems presented, and challenge me to expand my perspective. I would want them to respect my beliefs and values; and provide authentic, life-giving examples to apply to my situation - using layman's terms and not their medical terminology vocabulary; but through their heart. Lastly, they would have to be funny and make me laugh through my pain. If that's you, reach out to me and we'll chat to determine if we align and could work well together! View 13 Photos I provide therapeutic treatment the way I'd want to be treated - with authenticity, compassion, and humor. The only way I can help an individual is if they really want to put the effort in (outside the 50 min session), to be well. I offer a protected space for my clients to unpack their (emotional) luggage and find new methods in coping with life's trials. I love seeing individuals find their worth! Listening, paying attention, and utilizing the skills and wisdom I have learned over the years has gifted me the joy of seeing change take place. If you are seeking to be well inside and out, and you're willing to work with me as your tour guide; I'll do my best to help you on your journey of healing.
