I work with adult individuals and relationships. Many of my clients are focused on healing from trauma, disrupting harmful patterns like people pleasing and codependency, and creating healthy relationships. I am committed to equity and inclusion, both personally and professionally and my goal is always that my clients feel seen and supported in all aspects of their identity. I am LGBTQIA+, and gender affirming, sex/kink positive and welcome all relationship configurations including CNM/Polyamory. I recognize and value all types of diversity including ethnicity, race, size, gender, sexual orientation, class, religion, and abilities. As a trauma survivor, I have a real understanding of how past experiences shape our current realities, and the transformative power of processing old wounds. We will work together to create a safe and brave space where we can explore attachment, emotions, needs, boundaries, and communication skills that will help you cultivate more fulfilling relationships. I believe every individual is the expert of their lived experience and is equipped with the resources they need to grow, change, and thrive, and I also believe we all need a little help to get there sometimes. I am here to walk alongside you in your journey, offering empathy, challenging harmful beliefs, and providing tools for personal growth.

Human minds and bodies are creative and our systems find ways to keep us functioning safely through extraordinary and difficult circumstances. There often comes a time, however, when the tools and skills we have relied on to keep us safe are no longer working and we need to find new ways to move through the world as we build the life we want to live. Discovering and applying new patterns and processes requires a lot of intentional time and emotional support. I value the relationship I have with clients and I am excited to co-create a comfortable and trusting space with you so that we may work at your pace and with your needs in mind. If you are wondering what it may be like to engage with a supportive thought-partner reach out and schedule a consultation with me! I would love to learn more about your story and join you on this journey.

*** CURRENTLY NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS *** Therapy offers the opportunity to make lasting positive changes in life and in relationships. By exploring the role the past has played in current difficulties and dissolving old, destructive patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, life can be more balanced and joyful. I offer warmth, compassion, support, and insight to my clients, with an approach that is direct, non-judgmental, and tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual. Oriented toward building on natural strengths and empowering meaningful changes, our work together can foster an increased ability to more adaptively attend to the ever-changing flow of life. Together, we will work toward identifying destructive behavioral patterns and replace them with empathy for ourselves and those around us. Learning the art of non-judgmental awareness - mindfulness - we will explore these themes, connecting more intimately with the memories, emotions, thoughts, and sensations fundamentally associated with them. By exploring unmet childhood and current attachment needs, we learn to conquer self-defeating habits and discover a new way of approaching our thoughts, emotions, and personal behavior. Empowering ourselves to get our basic needs met in this way, we move toward creating greater balance, harmony, and joy in our lives.

I believe that all people possess the desire for growth and development in their lives. When we encounter relationships or circumstances that overwhelm our ability to cope with them, we can begin to develop maladaptive patterns that make us feel stuck. Therapy can help clients develop insight into their behaviors, challenge patterns that aren’t working, and develop the resilience they need to continue seeking growth and development. My approach to therapy draws on many theoretical approaches, and is grounded in the importance of attachment relationships. I offer an opportunity to have a positive relationship experience through warmth, empathy and honest communication. Together we will deepen our understanding of how you have been shaped by your life, and help you feel empowered to grow. Ultimately I want to create a space where you can be your most authentic self, and heal from the painful experiences that have happened in your past. I will create a non-judgmental space where you can build compassion for yourself and confidence in your ability to live a life driven by your authentic needs and goals.

I have been trained in many approaches to therapy and I believe that it is my role to work collaboratively with my clients to find the approach that works best for them. I believe that healing takes place in the context of the relationship between therapist and client and that an important part of the work is developing a connection where one feels truly seen and heard. I also believe in helping my clients get in touch with deeper levels of awareness of their bodies/emotions and helping them to incorporate mindfulness practices into their lives. I specialize in working with issues of sexuality, relationships, and gender. I enjoy work with adolescents, adults, and couples. In addition to therapy, I do assessments for hormones/surgery for transgender clients. Usually I require 2-3 sessions before completing my assessment.

Whether it be a major change in their family dynamic or a career shift, transitions may be challenging and these may warrant additional support. As a counselor who uses a life coaching approach, I look forward to supporting individuals who want to see results, be inspired to go further distances and reclaim their internal joy. I specialize in working with women, single parents as well as adults who may be questioning the direction of their current life or career paths. It is in our authentic work together, that fears of the unknown may be addressed and new levels of mastery attained. My biggest joy comes from helping others. I believe that we are all beings who ultimately desire to belong and that most of our traumas result from somewhere down the line not being accepted in some way, shape, or form. Frequently these wounds are in our subconscious and we have very little awareness of how much they can control our day-to-day interactions. What’s left unaddressed has a funny way of continuing to surface. I am dedicated to psycho-social treatments that are tailor-made to the individual and include sensitivity and respect for their cultural and spiritual framework. I offer a holistic approach to treating trauma and its effects on mind, body and spirit. I do not take commercial insurance but offer sliding-scale telehealth only at this time. As a queer neurodivergent non-binary (trans-masc) clinician they/she, my counseling work has a strong emphasis on LGBTQIA2S+ as well as survivors of both spiritual abuse, narcissistic abuse, sexual abuse/assault (including childhood sexual abuse) and adult children of childhood abuse.

CURRENTLY NOT Accepting Clients. I love my work as a couples' counselor. As a Gottman Seven Principles Program Educator, I have 20+ years experience helping couples & individuals improve communication, rekindle intimacy and improve awareness of patterns that may result in defensiveness, feeling "not heard" by your partner. In individual therapy, I create a warm environment so clients feel comfortable to share their issues. Together we develop goals & strategies for cultivating positive changes. In couples work, we address problematic communication to change those patterns from ineffective to effective habits & behaviors. I help you learn to be more aware of those patterns, so each partner can put into place skills and techniques for enhancing intimacy. Therefore, you can learn to enjoy each other for who you are, appreciating again the strengths and positive qualities that you first felt in each other. I'm a Gottman Seven Priniciples Program Educator, teaching skills from "The Seven Principles For Making Marriage Work," by John Gottman, Ph.D. of the Gottman Institute. I would enjoy speaking with you about any questions about counseling or feel free to visit my website, www.kathleenpolcer.com.

Specialized in IFS, EMDR, Eating Disorders, and Complex Trauma - Do you have negative thoughts about yourself that you can’t shake? Are you trying to feel better but realize everything makes you feel worse? Spend a lot of time thinking critically about your body? My personal approach to therapy is supportive and also direct/down to earth. I'm passionate about working with individuals affected by eating disorders & supporting them into full recovery. My other specialty is with complex trauma and relationship issues. I believe in Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating/Anti-Diet approaches, and I am LGBTQIA+ affirming. View 4 Photos As a person, I’m relaxed and informal (sometimes a bit of humor helps us open up into deeper issues). I'll also challenge you to go deeper. I want to dig into the topics bringing you in instead of staying on the surface. I use IFS, EMDR, DBT/ACT, and attachment-based approaches to help build skills to feel better in the moment and help it stay that way. Often we come to therapy because we need a push to move forward/make a change, but change can only happen if you feel seen, challenged, and comfortable with the other person in the room. Give me a call/email and see if you feel like I’m someone you can talk to!

I specialize in working with the queer and trans community, especially those who’s identities fall across multiple intersections. I work with individuals (14+) struggling with issues related to attachment trauma, gender identity exploration, executive dysfunction, racial identity exploration and surviving/thriving while living in systems of oppression. I also offer relationship counseling for couples, polycules and other relational dynamics (18+) struggling with issues of connection, trust, and sexual intimacy. I practice from a somatic (body focused) perspective, drawing from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology and mindfulness practices. I draw much of my philosophy concerning gender and sexuality from queer theory which historically challenges normative society, established traditions, and binary or definitive constructs. I often say therapy isn't always easy or perfectly safe (we are all human), but it can be SECURE. Together, it is my hope that we can create a space filled with trust, security and respect so that you can dive into your healing journey and begin to live by your values.
