I believe it is my calling to help my clients get to a better place and live happier, more fulfilled lives. I hope to help you see your worth, understand your past and how you got to the present, and explore the possibilities for your future! I use a psychoanalytic approach which simply means that I will listen to your story from childhood up through adulthood to get an understanding of what has happened over your life that may be manifesting today and causing challenges for you. Then we do the work to heal the parts that maybe aren't so whole right now. The individuals and families I have worked with over my career have reintroduced me to myself as I share some of the same experiences they have. I particularly love working with young adult women, black men and survivors of intimate partner violence. I also specialize in helping those with family conflict and relationship challenges. I can help you process through what has happened to you or what you are currently feeling--at your pace. As a therapist that has a therapist, I understand that finding a good fit is a process. If you are ready to take the first step, please reach out to me and let's see if we may work well together.

I believe that symptoms are like guideposts, signaling opportunities for growth. Expressed as anxiety, depression or even chronic pain, these unwelcome experiences actually show us where to begin the work of bringing life back into balance. My clients are typically outwardly successful people who seem to be traversing their busy lives with ease, while secretly they struggle with issues like chronic pain, anxiety, depression and disconnection from self and others. I work within a mind-body framework to uncover and heal the root causes of a client's symptoms so that they can experience lasting relief. Whether working with trauma, anxiety or chronic pain, my therapeutic model of choice is IFS (Internal Family Systems) because it creates change quickly, but gently and the positive effects of treatment persist over time. I am also trained in EMDR and PRT and use these modalities alongside IFS, where indicated. I'm happy to schedule a brief consultation so we can decide if your treatment goals and my therapeutic approaches are a fit.

Making the decision to see a therapist can be very uncomfortable. Knowing this, it is my privilege as your therapist to provide a safe place for you to begin, or continue your personal therapeutic journey. Through the safety of the relationship that is formed in the counseling office, you will be able to explore who and where you are in your life, and uncover thinking and behavior patterns which are getting in your way, as well as uncover the tools you need to change these destructive patterns. It is my hope to help you find that safe place to begin to work toward making the changes you need to live the life you deserve. I believe positive emotional health begins with an awareness of oneself in environment. Knowing yourself is the beginning to realizing which coping mechanisms (tools) work for you, and which ones might possibly look like they are working for you, but are in effect a hindrance to your emotional well being. The journey to wholeness begins with self-acceptance. Recognizing which 'life-scripts' are directing your path is mandatory for clearing away outdated or possibly even destructive thoughts which lead to behavioral responses. Through therapy, I will provide empathic listening and feedback to help you unravel this material and find solutions.

Do you realize the answers you seek exist within you? Life’s disruptions, losses and painful experiences leave negative imprints, which result in unpleasant symptoms like low self-esteem, limiting self-beliefs and negative thoughts about others and life. These experiences and the undesirable impacts cloud the part of you with all of the answers, your true essence. Together we will work to liberate you from the marks that past disturbances have left in order to be the healthiest and best version of your true self. Take a journey to intimately know and love yourself, and discover the roots of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I use a combination of transformational therapeutic modalities to facilitate your healing journey such as Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT), Trauma Resolution Energy Therapy (TRET), Transactional Analysis (TA - Ego States), Redecision Therapy (a combination of experiential therapy using TA and Gestalt Therapy) and talk therapy. In my experience, the combination of these therapies provides relief from the current symptoms of depression or anxiety as well as certain physical symptoms (unfelt feelings) by identifying and processing the originating causes and treating them.

I view my profession as more than a job, it is my calling. I am the type of therapist that meets my clients where they are. I create a warm, judgement-free, and encouraging space where together, we can lay a foundation that builds trust, acceptance, healing, and resolution. Many people seek therapy because something just doesn't feel "right." We often struggle with wanting to be our authentic selves, finding our purpose, and healing from our past traumas when we try to do it alone. Most issues become more manageable when we have someone there to help us carry the weight. This is what I attempt to do as a therapist. During our safe and confidential sessions together, we will work through difficult issues such as the struggles of daily life, couple's conflict, anger, loss, processing trauma, or working through conflict, and transitions. You are worthy of doing this work and you do NOT have to do it alone!

The primary focus in my therapy practice is helping others who may be struggling with stress or anxiety, including a wide range of anxiety based diagnoses such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Social Phobias or general phase of life stressors. Our world can be very stressful at times and I find my clients are often high functioning but often neglect themselves. Making that first call is a big step, and taking care of your mental health is so important. Anxiety can be extremely overwhelming and debilitating but relief is possible. My primary mode of treatment is a highly effective approach called CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Making the connection between what we are thinking and our mental health has been scientifically proven to significantly improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Taking that first step to reach out can be difficult but so important to begin the process of healing and relief. We all need help at times and I consider it a privilege to support others on a part of their journey. Give me a call or send an email to schedule your first appointment.

NOT Accepting New Patients! - My clinical experience began in 2012, and since then I have been working with couples, adults, and teens. I specialize in treating those with various mental disorders and behavioral issues to include: ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, and Personality Disorders. I utilize detailed Psychological Assessment, and empirically supported treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. I am certified as a DBT practitioner and a life coach. Lastly, I integrate a holistic mindset into my practice, where emphasis is placed on gut/brain health, sleep quality, lifestyle, and diet. Typical sessions with me will involve an assessment of your life style (diet, sleep quality, social life, and fitness level), followed by going over your problem(s) in detail so I can have a good grasp at the issue(s), followed up with a personality assessment to look for any areas of your personality that may be compromised. After that we create a plan! I've struggled in my life and know what it's like to feel defeated. I went from being a divorced homeless Veteran, suffering from a Brain Injury (TBI), PTSD, and Depression to a happily remarried father of four, who lives a rewarding and fulfilled life. What do I attribute to this change? Excellent therapy. Now it's my turn to help others.

You're doing the best you can, yet you still feel like you're walking through life on autopilot, just going through the motions. Maybe there's something recent or from your childhood that you've been avoiding and while not wanting to feel that pain now you're not feeling much of anything, even when you want to. You vaguely remember the last time you got excited about anything and sometimes there's a part of you that just feels less than. As an EMDRIA approved Consultant, I support therapists nationwide in feeling more competent in their practice. For clients, I offer adjunct EMDR Intensives for residents of South Carolina only.
