Managing life's challenges isn't something you have to do alone. I am passionate about creating a safe, nonjudgmental, and empathetic space to help you explore the parts of you that need healing and validation. I strive to create a deep relationship that fosters growth and safety during the most challenging walks of life. I believe therapy should be somewhere you can heal attachments and truly be yourself without shame. Creating a healing relationship with yourself can help you manage life’s challenges and live more authentically. I want to help you discover your strengths, build resilience, and strengthen your mental health. My foundation is the therapeutic relationship using techniques from Person-Centered/Relational. My primary theory is Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help treat the parts that need healing. Being flexible and meeting people where they are at is important in successful therapeutic outcomes. Research reveals that effective therapy is less technique and more about a trusting therapeutic relationship. It's important to find a therapist that's a qualified, good fit for you. Contact me today for more info or to schedule an appointment.

Every person deserves a secure, safe space where they can become their most authentic selves. I strive to approach therapy with genuine compassion, warmth, and empathy. I believe that therapy at its core is a creative, non-judgmental space between equals. This creates an environment where you can be yourself and learn to manage the thoughts and emotions getting in your way. I like to incorporate a combination of techniques from Person-Centered, Adlerian, Solution-Focused, Strengths-Based, and Trauma-Focused counseling approaches to fully comprehend your unique experience and how best to help you. Whether you are struggling with trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, or stress related to any number of life circumstances, I'd be happy to help you find hope and make progress toward your goals. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT), I'm able to provide individual counseling to children (3+), adolescents, and adults. We all need help at times. If you're seeking unconditional support and encouragement on your healing journey, I'm here for you. Together, we can work towards a brighter, more fulfilling future.

I graduated from the University of South Dakota with my Master of Social Work degree. Throughout my career I have enjoyed working with a variety of clients and have experience with children, adolescents and adults in group, couples and individual therapy. My career has given me the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings along with providing telehealth therapy services to individuals across SD. I certified in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and have provided DBT in individual and group format. I work with clients on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, emotional intensity, bipolar disorder, trauma, and grief. I also have experience working with couples and individuals to address interpersonal difficulties. The most rewarding part of therapy for me is helping clients realize their own strengths and capacity to make healthy changes in their lives. I look forward to working with you to improve your overall well-being and reach your goals!

I help people work through difficult experiences so that they can live a more full and hopeful life. My approach to therapy is very relational and I believe that through the therapeutic relationship, one can begin to heal old wounds. I am trained in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), which helps in processing and changing the way one thinks of themselves in the face of traumatic events. I have found that my mixture of attachment-based relational approach and empirically-backed techniques creates an environment of deep healing. I am also receiving training in AEDP (Accelerated-Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) in July. The work that someone would expect to receive is transformational. I believe transformation comes from the ability to experience one’s truth and gaining mastery over your emotions, by no longer masking, distorting, or blocking them. I meet people where they are at. We all have a story and deserve to be heard.

My therapeutic approach views each person as an individual with unique strengths and challenges, and emphasizes the value of building a therapeutic relationship with the individual. When working with a child, I also want to build a relationship with the caregiver. Developing the client and family's strengths will be the foundation to support the change. I believe that the greatest results are achieved using evidence based treatment modalities; these approaches focus on assisting the individual to change negative thoughts & behaviors & focus more on their internal strengths & resourcefulness. My training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Play Therapy. I also work with adults and children with ADHD. Struggles are a part of life, you don't have to do it alone. Some times it takes a person to hear and validate how you are struggling for you to move forward.

I believe one of the most challenging things that you can do is to begin to understand your own story. We gather a lifetime of experiences which affect us in different ways. Holding on to past negative experiences prevents further exploration and healing. In a sense we get stuck in patterns of thinking and relating that hold us back from true potential and empowerment of our best assets. I have practiced for 25 years in a variety of settings both inpatient and outpatient. I utilize a variety of approaches to include TF-CBT, DBT, Solution-focused and ecclectic approaches to help you begin where your at and reach the goals you determine to continue a path to living a better life. Life is too short to be affected by poor relationships, letting past trauma or grief control you or to feel anxious, depressed or angry all of the time. My hope is for you to be free of emotional pain, be able to deal with life’s terms and to find meaning and purpose in the important areas of your life. I counsel some adults who want help with nagging feelings of not being good enough. And couples who feel their marriage may be on the very brink of breaking. I strive to be available for clients that are looking for acceptance, care and therapeutic insight. My goal is to walk with individuals that desire to know more about themselves and can ultimately become their own therapist, to know themselves fully and completely, as anyone can. As any human, you may struggle with interpersonal relationships and/or the inner workings of self. We all have a journey to experience and a story to tell about it. I am here to help navigate the journey, identify the adventure, and tell the story. I am experienced in working with adult men and women of all ages experiencing a wide variety of psychological and relational difficulties. My purpose is to sit with the individual, couple, or family, and examine areas of health as well as impairment. I believe growth and change come from within and sometimes it requires assistance to sort through all of it. I sit with the individual across from me, to model a healthy relationship that can be both simultaneously uncomfortable and vulnerable, and safe and inviting. I strive to step into a healthy, intimate and always professional relationship, and yet get out of the way. My goal as a therapist is to allow you the space you need to feel and process.

It's important to find the right therapist you can trust. I have worked as a therapist for 38 years to help people heal and grow into who they really are. We are created with natural instincts to connect, trust, and love. When we experience early suffering, distress, or trauma, it disrupts our development, and we develop strategies to deal with the challenges and pain. The NARM approach assists us in coming back to our God-given nature by exploring how we adapted to survive difficult circumstances as children. This awareness helps connect us to our ability to choose how we want to respond to life and its challenges. As a therapist, my specialties address relationship issues, addictions, depression, finances and trauma. Laura is dedicated to providing high quality therapeutic experiences by co-designing individualized intensives, retreats and workshops with clients to meet their unique needs and goals. My Christian faith may add to your experience, and I can include spirituality in the counseling experience. NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) is a client-led and simplistic approach to treating complex issues.

Although I have specialized in the full spectrum of eating disorders for over 30 years, my passion is working with emotional eating/BED and weight-loss coaching. I have developed a program called "the glow approach" which will help you develop a healthy relationship with food, which means 1) putting food back in its place as nourishment for your body and learning which foods "work for you" for health and weight-loss; and 2) identifying what role(s) food plays in your life: a coping mechanism to manage feelings, avoid issues, fill a void, and/or self-medicate underlying mental-health conditions such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD. You will learn to navigate the bridge between food and feelings, creating awareness and gaining insight into your emotional eating patterns and what may be interfering with your ability to lose weight and/or keep it off. I use positive psychology and health coaching strategies to motivate and guide you to make lasting personal and lifestyle changes. I am currently accepting clients who are struggling with emotional eating/BED, clients who are needing weight-loss coaching, or clients who are needing support with both. Are you ready to change your relationship with food? Are you ready to begin this journey of transformation? Are you ready to find your glow?

Life's challenges and obstacles can leave us feeling disconnected from our true selves and overloaded to the point where we can lose our way and experience feelings of being disconnected, alone, lost, and overwhelmed. Ruminating about the past or the future can create depression, anxiety and erode our sense of self and our ability to find the simple pleasures of living in the present. We can work together to help you reconnect with those parts of you that feel lost and alone and figure out small easy steps that can add up to meaningful and lasting change. View 7 Photos We will partner together to create an environment based upon acceptance, empathy, and genuineness which helps one find acceptance, empathy, and genuineness for one's self. By learning to give these things to ourselves we are then able to offer them to others. Creating alignment within ourselves is a first step on our healing journey. I am available for you by phone or email and you can easily access my schedule via our website.
