At a young age, I knew that I loved listening to people’s stories. This started with my ability to get lost in books, TV shows, and films, and then led to studying theatre. Eventually, I realized how I could combine my passion for stories, the empathy I felt, and the joy I experienced from being a helper – by being a therapist. I earned my doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Tennessee in 2014, and, since then I have worked as a professor in psychology and counseling as well as a therapist. In my private practice, I am available to see individuals via telehealth in all 40 PSYPACT states (see: https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap). As a therapist, I offer an authentic, non-judgmental space, filled with unconditional care and, I guarantee, laughter. I will work with you to establish goals, and, with patience, accomplish the change that you want in your life. I identify strongly as an ally and I have a special interest in codependency recovery; grief therapy, especially the loss of a parent or pet/animal family member; life transitions, such as adjusting to college, a new job, move, or relationship change; men’s issues; LGBTQ+; and the use of Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma recovery. When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy providing supervision to therapists-in-training or for licensure; walking and listening to audiobooks, just about any kind of music, and podcasts; ridiculously decorating my house for various holidays; spending time with my partner and ragdoll cat, Harry; cooking; and binge-watching TV shows.

Going to therapy takes great strength and bravery, and it is important for us to recognize that. Sometimes therapy is the only place where people feel safe and sound. Therefore, my overall goal as a mental health professional is to provide my clients with a safe, non-judgmental space to share their stories, feel validated, and uncover long-term therapeutic solutions. View 5 Photos Because every person has unique stories and wisdoms to share, my approach to counseling pulls from various theories, including person-centered therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). Through a trauma-informed lens, I strive to help my clients develop an abundance of tools to add to their therapeutic toolbox. I have experience working with clients of various backgrounds, including adolescents, trauma survivors, and individuals with co-occurring disorders. I am proudly an LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician and strive to help my clients feel safe and respected. Currently, I am the IOP therapist at Mind Body Wellness and work in both group and individual settings.

Do you feel anxious, worried, or misunderstood? Or maybe you are feeling the weight of grief, trauma, depression, or anxiety and would like assistance in healing. Do you yearn for compassion and need someone to listen without judgment? If so, please reach out; I would love to talk. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort, and in this partnership, we will strive to achieve healing and your highest potential together. Our work together will offer insight into past experiences and relationships that may influence the present and provide tangible coping skills to help you move beyond where you currently find yourself. I work with adults who struggle with (C)PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger, and interpersonal conflict. I explore “the why” behind patterns and behaviors while working to improve, shift, and change them. I focus on attachment-based, mindfulness-based, and acceptance- and compassion-based strategies to focus on what is meaningful in your life. Where appropriate, I combine traditional talk therapy with somatic therapy. Somatic therapy utilizes the body-oriented approach designed to release the areas of stress, tension, and trauma stored in the body. Combined with talk therapy, it provides the most integrative treatment experience and the best chance of healing past emotional wounds.

Imagine having healthier relationships, balanced emotions, and better boundaries. You might be dealing with problems in your relationships with your spouse, family, or friends. You are a “people pleaser” who can't say no and often puts yourself on the backburner. You may say “I don’t deal well with emotions” or feel like your emotions get the best of you. After a recent life change or relationship issue, such as a difficult marriage, motherhood, or divorce, you may feel like you don’t know who you are any more. Let's find YOU again. If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationships, I am here to help. View 3 Photos I specialize in dialectical behavior therapy, which teaches mindfulness meditation, emotion regulation, and communication skills to help you get your mind, emotions, and body on the same page. Using these skills, you can feel more control of your emotions instead of letting them control you. My clients say I empower and encourage them to find their voice. My clients often come from a Christian background but don’t want “Christian counseling”. I am an expert on faith deconstruction, purity culture/sexual shame, and religious trauma. I offer Christian sex therapy to married couples and women. I help you figure out your beliefs and make choices aligned with your values. Together, we will reach your goals.

Being human is hard. It’s messy. And it can feel totally overwhelming at times. However, when we learn to give voice to these inner experiences, they start to become more manageable. We begin to realize the feelings and symptoms we experience aren’t random, they’re telling us something. As your therapist, I can help you learn how to better connect with, understand, and express painful emotions, while also providing tools to help you cope. Through it all, I will offer you compassion, warmth, empathy - maybe even a well timed curse word if necessary. I’ll bring my whole authentic self to the therapy room and invite you to do the same. I enjoy working with a variety of concerns. I have particular interest and training in trauma recovery, anxiety, and family/relationship stress. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and aim for my office to be a place where all clients feel safe and connected. My approach is person-centered and rooted in attachment theory, while also utilizing techniques from EMDR and DBT. I think above everything, I can offer you a space to be heard and validated; challenged and empowered - A space to show up exactly where you are, while growing toward where you want to go. It would be my privilege to collaborate with you in this work. If this resonates with you, don't hesitate to email/text to set up an initial appointment or consultation.

Healing, Growth, Change.....Working toward these three things is the core of my therapeutic approach. I also believe in starting in the “Here and Now” to provide a foundation of coping with current happenings and difficult emotions. Once that foundation is built, we work toward “peeling away the layers” of unpacking the past or looking ahead to the future. Common themes that I address are self-esteem, communication, coping skills for depression and anxiety, success practices and stress management. I will provide a safe, nonjudgemental and nurturing space for you to process whatever it is that you need to work through. I have 18 years of experience in the mental health field. I have worked in community mental health, intensive outpatient programs and now private practice. My experience is based in depression, anxiety, mood instability, self-esteem and substance abuse. I also have a therapy dog that can accompany me to sessions at the client's request. Her name is Stevie and her role is to provide additional comfort and ease in any anxieties that may arise in addressing difficult issues. Please see my website for additional information.

Many people seeking therapy are simply sensitive souls in need of new or different ways of protecting themselves in a world which does not always honor the intuitive, sensitive, and creative self. I am passionate about helping individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and obsessional thinking that I believe often results from highly sensitive creative individuals lacking an outlet for expressing and/or understanding themselves. View 6 Photos In session I tend to incorporate mindfulness practices and guided meditation/imagery to help clients challenge early woundings and harness their creative potential. Additionally, I am Reiki Master Certified; I also incorporate energy healing into many of my client sessions as I believe non-verbal trauma associated can become stored in the body. I strive to heal the restless and weary souls that are aware of their own internal struggles but lack the skills to manage their highly reflective and at times painfully aware self. As spiritual beings having oftentimes painful human experiences, I hope to help guide and heal you together here

Everyone wants to be themselves, to be “seen,” and to be valued for their uniqueness. We’re wired to need safe and affirming relationships and connection with others. When we’re struggling, it’s usually because something has gotten in the way of these things - not because we’re somehow "defective" or "flawed." I value authenticity, and strive to help clients feel and honor emotions that may seem “wrong" or unacceptable. I've worked with college students, survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence, adults with ADHD, couples, and individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. I tailor therapy according to your needs, but draw significantly from humanistic, emotion-focused, experiential, feminist, and interpersonal approaches. I'm a licensed psychologist who began my career as a clinical social worker. I see myself as not only a therapist, but also an advocate. I work to provide an LGBTQIA-affirming and anti-racist space that feels welcoming and safe. If you need an ally who sees the best in you – exactly as you are - I would be honored to work with you.
