I weave together elements of positive psychology, strength-based counseling, Buddhist psychology, and yoga therapy (when appropriate) to help people deepen their awareness of how they want to grow or heal. For some that may be gaining clarity and taking action for growth or healing. For others it may be navigating a new phase of life, either one they initiated or not. And for some, it may be finding inner guidance and practicing strategies to manage a difficult situation. These are just a few examples of individuals who have found working with me supportive. For more details visit: www.abeautifuljourneycoaching.com I meet each person where they are and help them gain clarity about how counseling or coaching can support them and identify what they want to move toward. I do not work within a clinical or medical model framework. Each person is capable of the growth or healing they desire. I help them discover how to do that. I do not use diagnoses in my practice. I do not work from a clinical/medical model and therefore do not accept insurance. I have a tiered fee scale of $70, $90, and $110/hour with a limited number of spaces at $40/hour for individuals experiencing a significant financial challenge. Contact me for a free consultation (30 minutes) so we can explore the possibility of working together.

Adoptees are often a silent population due to challenges surrounding the issue of trust. Needs for this population may include difficulties connecting with others, difficulty with self esteem & making decisions to appease others rather than for themselves. Goals are often directly linked to these issues. How do I know? I have both lived experiences as a former foster child & adoptee who then used those experiences to launch me into the field of psychotherapy where I accrued over 20 years of experience. Learning to trust & knowing who we are as adoptees is an important part of the healing work we will do together. I offer individual, family & couples Adoptee Counseling sessions to adoptees & their adoptive families who are ready to begin addressing the needs which often accompany the role of being an adoptee. Acceptance, connection & trust are some of the issues which we can explore together in our online confidential sessions. I understand how challenging it can be for adoptees to reach out to others as a result of trust issues & the ability to acknowledge their own emotional needs. If you're an adoptee or an adoptive family member, are over the age of 16 and ready to begin this important work of self care & self identity, I'm here to walk along side you on your journey.

I believe a lack of self-love perpetuates a lack of care about the world, I believe our Inner World - how we experience healing and how we live in joy - is very important in the mission to make the world a better place. I am a coach in Conscious Human Evolution and guide you through various tools and techniques to re-Love yourself, re-Connect with joy and passion in life. I cannot heal you - but I will offer you tools and support and guidance as you are taking the steps to heal yourself. I find that NVC (Nonviolent Communication) improves the quality of life immensely, in relationships both with the world and with ourselves. I guide the healing process with a self-empowering unconditionally-loving philosophy, and use IFS (Internal Family Systems), Harmonizing and other tools to support your learning and healing. When our wounds & no-longer-serving-us patterns show up – rather than suppress them, we bring awareness to them and support their transformation. We use IFS, guided meditations, Inner Child connecting, Consciousness Coaching, Joy Coaching to support you while you stay with them and un-learn to judge them – and learn to love and accept them & yourself.

As a practitioner of Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), I specialize in helping people heal from trauma, depression, and anxiety. I assist clients in a process of deep self-discovery using ETT, psychotherapy, and movement. ETT can help clients to heal more effectively from long-standing and painful patterns than traditional talk therapies alone. I treat a wide variety of conditions that prevent people from living an optimum life. My ideal client is committed to change, may have been in prior therapy that has not yet shifted fundamental maladaptive patterns, and open to new ways of thinking and feeling about themselves. ETT utilizes RGB light and the entire color spectrum to heal states of deep emotional distress. ETT and the Resilience Toolkit can provide immediate and lasting relief from distress. ETT gives the client the opportunity to develop new ways of processing emotions and forming healthy attachments. ETT is also very effective with dream work. I am also a certified facilitator of The Resilience Toolkit and Tension Releasing Exercises. Both are movement and mindfulness based techniques designed to build capacity and emotional well-being. I have twelve years of experience working with childhood trauma in residential, community-based, and private practice settings. I look forward to working with you.

Women are incredible, and yet, I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t held deep pain and shame about herself at some point; somehow feeling like she is both too much and not enough. Shrinking herself, fighting imposter syndrome, avoiding conflict, feeling guilty for having needs and choosing to care for herself... Maybe you know that feeling too, and maybe that’s why you’re here. It doesn’t have to be this way. You can learn how to move from self-criticism to compassion, rebuild your confidence, and let go of the insecurities that make it so hard for you to see your worth. You can learn how to love yourself and your life again. View 11 Photos Therapy with me is a relaxed, collaborative process that relies on our shared knowledge. I honor you as the expert on you and view my experience as a tool to help you through this process. We all have had times when we find ourselves contemplating our understanding of life and whether our life has progressed on the path that we had envisioned. We may be experiencing states of grief, self-doubt, and worry about ourselves, our relationships, or the condition of the world in general. It can often feel frustrating and overwhelming to accept this experience and we can find ourselves asking, "What did I ever do to deserve this; why me and why now?" These are often the scenarios when we require support and a new perspective with which to consider life's challenges. My primary focus is the study and practice of trauma informed therapies. The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study has become central to my clinical work. My sessions include elements of psychoeducation regarding the effects of trauma and integrating Somatic Experiencing, auricular acupuncture, reflexology, Chi Kung and trauma sensitive yoga. The research done by Vincent Fellitti, Bessel van der Kolk and others have shown that the somatic interventions are remarkably effective for treatment of trauma. These modalities combined with an empathic and compassionate setting allow me to provide the best possible care in support of the clients' needs and goals.

Have you experienced the death of one or more beloveds in the past 5 years? Maybe you have experienced a feeling of being stuck, as if you want to move forward but something is holding you back. Have you reached a point in your life where the old patterns and remedies no longer serve you? Are you challenged to find peace internally as well as externally? Sometimes all we need is a listening ear. And sometimes it can be helpful to find techniques for deeper exploration of our losses, whatever they may be. I offer a safe and sacred space for speaking thoughts and feelings. In addition to dialogue, I have found that various types of drums are effective channels for grounding our grief and other emotions. We might explore journaling and sitting meditation for internal reflection and processing, and the labyrinth for moving meditation. Grief affects all of us at one time or another and can be relentless if we try to ignore it. Grief speaks the language of the heart, not the head, and is not something we can rationalize away. Often, our search for reconciliation with our losses leads us to a deeper connection with our spiritual selves.

Are you newly secular? Did you leave a religion or are you in the process of doing so? You've been considering therapy for a long time, but still, you hesitate. It can be challenging to move forward and you sometimes feel haunted by the fears and dogma that were previously a part of your daily life. Whether or not you consider what you are experiencing as religious trauma, you want to make sure you find a therapist who won't make you feel guilty for leaving your former religion. You've got this nightmare scenario of finally finding a new therapist, only to end up ducking religious vocabulary, feeling judged, or defending yourself. View 6 Photos Imagine being in therapy with me, certain that your views are 100% accepted, and that you don't need to pretend anything. There's probably enough of that in your day-to-day! Plus, psychotherapy's long since left the realm of the nebulous and is considered a quantifiable process, firmly rooted in years of scientific research and evidence-based practice. Carl Sagan once said: “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” Maybe he wasn't just speaking about what's still undiscovered in the far corners of space, maybe he was referring to the amazingly cool things we can discover about ourselves in therapy! Therapeutic Cathartic Breathwork assists in the healing of the self (body/mind/ heart and awareness), while releasing repetition compulsions from the past in order to live a life based on inner authority and sovereignty. Often clients are attracted to the cathartic breath as other modalities have not resulted in completion. The Therapeutic Cathartic Breath is not a mental tool, though it releases non supportive belief systems. It is an invitation to open to expanded states of consciousness, connecting us to our larger self before there was any trauma or dis-ease. We surrender to our "true source" however we define it. We often live in the past projecting our incomplete experiences into the present and future. How we came to take our first breath and the support we received in the early developmental stages of our life informs all our later relationships. Releasing our repetition compulsions by using the cathartic connected breath frees us from the past. By learning how to become aware of the way we breathe, linking our inhales and exhales we regain self-esteem and our creative abilities and trust to live our life from a space of curiosity and inner freedom. During these times of great change, Dunja provides the intuitive wisdom to guide individuals, families and groups safely through these transitions.

My passion comes from helping people move past the losses and traumas of their past and into a rich and full life. Trauma and the losses we experience in life can wound us on every level - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. My desire is to see you pick up the pieces and create a beautiful life beyond the struggle of grief, anxiety, postpartum difficulties, infertility, disordered eating, childhood abuse, and other painful life events. My approach is one of compassion, honesty, and a little bit of sass - to help you rediscover a life of passion, beauty, joy, fulfillment, and empowerment. I have a professional and personal investment in working with those who have experienced the death of a child during pregnancy, infancy, childhood, or adulthood. I also work well with those who experience long-term chronic and/or complex trauma and who feel past approaches haven't been as helpful. I practice from a health at every size (HAES) perspective. I see clients Monday thru Wednesday. Email is the preferred method of contact (Honestly, I'm terrible with voicemail). I do my best to respond to every request (usually on Thurs/Fri), however, times are weird and sometimes life gets in the way. If you do not get a response within 1 week, please accept my apologies and assume that I don't have availability.
