Forty years of practice have taught me that we humans pretty much learn to be who we are. With a tip of my hat to my alma mater, the University of Minnesota, for setting me on the right track, I practice what is now known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in which we identify and challenge old, dysfunctional habits by integrating our emotions, thoughts and behaviors while learning new ways of coping with our issues. It is exciting and fulfilling to share in my clients' / patients' journeys from guilt, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma or dysfunction to living proactively, mindfully, and joyfully. The mind, body, spirit connection is real. Learning to access and manipulate that connection is part of our individual journey. In my work, I share many of the tools I have picked up along the way and help you learn how to use them in your day to day. My practice reflects my doctoral research interest in how talk therapy works; how talking alone effects even physiological healing. Understanding the power of our words; how we say what we say is central to my work. Self Hypnosis is a tool I teach; EMDR my treatment of choice for PTSD

It's been said that people come to therapy when their house is on fire! It may feel that way if your efforts leave you discouraged, bewildered, frustrated. You may be hoping to find ways to deal more effectively with painful or self-destructive thoughts, behaviors, interactions, and emotions, and develop and better achieve goals that now seem unreachable. i can help you do these things in a safe, relaxed space, working together toward enhanced coping, confidence, fulfilling relationships, and peacefulness. My focuses are relationships of all kinds: couples work-- marriage, pre-marriage, divorce, infidelity-- and anxiety, depression, and trauma. For couples and relationships, I use varying approaches. I have advanced training in Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). The latter, especially, shows 90% researched improvement rates in couples following it . I find useful results working with either couples or individuals wanting to learn/make personal changes to improve the relationship. Resolving anxiety, depression, and trauma involves looking at the whole person-- emotionally, socially, spiritually, and physically-- using appropriate approaches (including EMDR) with a client's own strengths and abilities. It's all a hopeful venture-- serious concerns but with room for lightness and humor-- and renewed life as its goal.

I like to go deep. And so do my clients. We're not here for bandaid fixes, but to understand and address the fundamental internal dynamics that keep us so often feeling like we're always struggling. I help you slow down enough to find an ever-present sense of okayness that then allows you to meet your emotions, thoughts, and impulses and allow them to resolve themselves effortlessly, in just a few minutes, rather than trying to constantly use tools to keep them at bay. Symptoms aren't just managed, they can be resolved. A sense of abiding peace can be known at any time, and an availability for real connection develops. View 3 Photos We'll meet in person or over zoom, either together in a natural area or you in a safe, private natural space near your home, and mindfully notice when you are activated, developing the capacity to safely feel, while also observing the thoughts, impulses, memories that point to the root of your anxiety, trauma, and other symptoms so that they can integrated. We'll connect with natural elements to build your capacity to feel joy and relax, as well as feel connected to and witnessed by a bigger, mysterious world. In the same way a tree knows without a doubt how to grow, your nervous system knows what it needs to relax and feel good, effortlessly and consistently. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Sometimes life can be a bit too much: relationship struggles arise, worries seem too heavy, or direction is hard to find. That’s where I come in. As a counselor, I aim to meet each client where they are, building a deep understanding of who they are and collaboratively identifying what they need and how to get them there. I utilize an integrative approach, drawing on multiple counseling perspectives to meet each individual's needs through evidence-based approaches. I won’t force clients to do anything, but using my training and experience, I will both support and challenge them to make significant, lasting change. I grew up in Wyoming so I understand the culture of grit and resilience. However, I have also seen how that same culture can keep people from seeking support in hard times. As a counselor, I strive to help everyone feel welcome, heard, and valued. Starting a journey of growth and healing can be daunting. You don't have to do it alone. Let's embark on it together. I am currently accepting new clients and would love to meet with you for a free consultation over the phone or videochat. Whether you need an empathetic ear, specific skills, or help reflecting and developing insight, I am here to help.

Usually, when we're facing challenges that feel overwhelming, we crave understanding and acceptance...someone who will listen, provide support and stand side by side with us as we navigate our way through murky waters. We also long for relief from whatever is causing us pain - from harmful behaviors or confusing situations to emotions or thoughts that feel out of control. We want to feel better and to be free - free to take pleasure in the joys and triumphs of our lives and free to live our lives with the confidence that we have the tools and resources to cope with whatever pain may appear. I have experience working in a variety of specialized areas, including mindfulness, DBT, depression and anxiety, women's issues, trauma, substance abuse and addiction, workplace stress, divorce and perinatal mood disorders. Ultimately, however, it’s the relationship between you and me that makes the difference. It’s hard enough to ask for help in the first place, so I want to recognize the courage it could have already taken to get here. At the end of the day, this is about what you need, including making sure I’m the right fit for what you’re looking for. If I am, we’ll walk this path together and I’ll be by your side every step of the way.
