I am a social worker who specializes in couples and sexual-related issues. I do a lot of work with couples around infidelity, trust and sexual issues. I spend much time helping couples overcome the aftermath of affairs and help lead them to a better relationship than they previously had. I also work with individuals with problems like depression, anxiety and loss. I do my sessions exclusively by video and phone and have done teletherapy for about five years. My style is very casual and thoughtful. And I have become very adept at doing teletherapy. I find that most of my clients prefer this format. In couples work, I teach that communication is different for men and women. I help couples and individuals with sexual issues like lack of desire, performance anxiety, dysfunction, coming out issues and relationship types (consensual nonmonogamy and monogamy) and navigating these. I am looking forward to hearing from you. I know that sexual and relationship issues can be difficult to discuss, but with my style I think you'll feel quite comfortable talking with me. You will find reaching out for the initial conversation with me that I am not judgemental in the least and that you will feel at ease speaking with me.

I offer my clients a compassionate, creative, and collaborative approach in their healing work. I use psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and integrative therapies encouraging my clients to find meaning in their life's journey and struggles as well as find new ways to care for the self. Although I am a generalist when it comes to working with a variety of diverse clients and issues, I also believe strongly in the mind/body connection and help my clients find ways to reconnect and find balance in their lives. This is especially helpful when dealing with grief, relationship issues, life transitions, or trauma. I do have a focus on treating people who have experienced trauma in their lives, either as a child or adult. This includes emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. In working with couples, I assist in identifying core patterns which are unhealthy or destructive. I teach healthier ways of relating, including learning how to communicate effectively. As a psychologist, my main modality of treatment is through talk therapy. However, with clients who have an interest, I often use other expressive modalities. Some of those include the use of art, writing, mind/body awareness, mindfulness meditation, guided imagery, or music. I am the owner and clinical director of this small group practice.

Throughout my 15 years of counseling a diverse population of clients, I have found that everyone wants the same thing... an increased sense of happiness and peace. This means something different to us all. I am here to help you figure out what that means to you, and how to obtain it. Throughout my experience as a clinician, I have found a multimodal approach to be most beneficial. I highly value the application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based practices to help people achieve their goals. With the recent addition of becoming an EMDR trained therapist, I feel as though my approach is well rounded and balanced. We all go through struggles. Having someone to help navigate through them is sometimes what we need in order to come out on the other end successfully. I am here to help clients make positive change in a warm, caring, empathetic environment.

I am interested in our struggles to become ourselves. My decision to become a therapist was based on my own experiences in therapy. Most people come to therapy because they are in pain and life is not working out as they hoped. That means that some of therapy is about the relief of pain and some of it is about a reorganizing of one's life. The experience of therapy also affects the therapist, so I have learned a great deal from my patients. I think "openness" would be a good word to describe my sense of how the process develops. I specialize in issues that relate to men; also grief work, creativity and life transitions such as divorce, midlife struggles and other major changes. I changed my career in order to become a therapist. This makes me attuned to people's life journeys. I'm a writer and the creative process holds fascination for me. I have been involved in the "men's movement" for many years and feel connected to issues men face. I also see therapy as a way of taking "time out" to develop skills and appreciate who we are and assess the blocks that prevent us from becoming more fully ourselves.

Beginning or continuing therapy is not easy, especially when life already feels difficult. When your world is overwhelming or chaotic, numb or lifeless, I can help in addressing debilitating symptoms and finding ways to cope. At the same time, we can work together to identify unacknowledged emotions, fears, desires, and entrenched patterns so that you can form new ways of living with meaning and vitality. I aim to create a trusting, non-judgmental environment in which one feels safe enough to explore thoughts and feelings, to say whatever comes to mind. My experience includes working with people suffering from relationship conflicts, sexuality and identity, trauma, social isolation, job struggles, loneliness, immigration, eating issues, and substance use. We can look to the past to understand the present with the goal of creating reflective, long-lasting change in your lived experience. At times, life can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to bear the burden alone. I have 25 years in the behavioral health field as an executive, teacher, consultant and dually-licensed clinician helping people move beyond their burdens to get on with their lives. I have been providing clinical services since 2005, and I'm a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science along with the American Counseling Association. My experience includes treating depression, anxiety, panic, stress, anger, trauma, grief and problematic substance use across the lifespan. View 6 Photos My primary therapeutic orientation is a mindfulness-based treatment known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Instead of trying to control or get rid of unwanted experiences, this approach develops the flexibility to respond differently so that you get unstuck from what is holding you back. It is an inherently person-centered, strength-based modality. Sometimes our struggles seem like we are in a tug-of-war with our own feelings, thoughts, pain, suffering, past and worries. At times, it may even feel like it's too much because you still haven't won that war, no matter what you've tried. Together, we can learn how to drop the rope so that you can get on with what is truly important - your life!

At one point or another, we discover that life is full of ups and downs.  The bad news is that no matter how hard we try to hold on to the good times and avoid the bad times, both seem to eventually dissolve into the other.  The good news is that this isn't a problem and doesn't need to be feared.  Successful therapy helps clients learn to understand how our lives flow, clarifies the confusion that comes when things feel particularly stuck and unsettled, and helps to draw out the wisdom of our mind, body, and spirit. View 4 Photos My approach is non-pathological, gentle, often infused with humor, and oriented towards synchronizing mind and body. Drawing on tools and techniques from Western Psychology and Eastern Philosophy, together you and I will explore what is and isn't working in your life and discover how you can make changes to move you towards the life you want to be living. In addition to having an MA from Naropa University in Boulder, CO, I am a former snowboard and skateboard instructor, an avid outdoorsman, and I have a lifelong love of video games. I help to teach therapists in training, have a daily mindfulness practice, and spend at least two weeks a year on meditation retreats in service of my work as a therapist.
