I have worked in early intervention services for children with autism spectrum disorder in their home/community settings, as well as with adults with intellectual disabilities. In addition to this, I have served children and adults in residential/school settings who exhibit severe problem behaviors that are a barrier to their inclusion in less restrictive environments with the ultimate goal of increasing independence and teaching skills that would enable them to move back into the community. My current passion is expanding services in Southeast Kansas and preventing the need for day schools/institutionalization in the first place. I specialize in autism and related intellectual and developmental disorders. I have extensive experience working with alternative communication systems and conducting analyses of severe behavior to create an individualized behavior intervention plan. I have been in the SEK area for over 10 years, with the overwhelming desire to train new professionals and expand services to the area. Our mission at Behavior Unlimited (BU) is to provide the most quality services for children, families, and schools. Spreading the passion for helping others is what means most to us. BU focuses on teaching functional skills so each child can be their best self. Behavior means communication. At BU, we look at the function of the behavior and teach replacement behavior so that all children can be understood. The teaching is done both by working directly with children AND with families and schools. The end goal for every skill taught is independence. All of the teaching is done naturally all while focusing on functional skills. Each plan that is developed and implemented uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Ensuring that each child applies all of the skills taught is our focus. Each goal will be worked on in the moment so that the child, family, and/or teacher is able to learn how to change the behavior as it is happening. Realistic plans and strategies will be put in place with realistic expectations. We want all children to be included in all activities and we will strategically work towards making that happen. We work on both their strengths and enhancing their weaknesses. We put the fun in functional!

I’m a person-centered therapist, giving the client the power to direct where we go during session. Giving power back to the person is my highest priority. I want people to feel comfortable and safe to express themselves and process what they’re feeling. The conversation will have challenges to thought processes that aren’t working and to practice skills that are outside of what they may have tried in the past. Clients in the past have said that I’m very calm and collected during session. People are able to laugh, make jokes, cry, be angry, and be supported by me during the session. I challenge them, and con have a conversation with them all at once. I think clients keep coming back to me because they know that I have their best interest in mind during treatment, they can bring their whole selves to the session, and that I am in their corner.

ABA Therapy, or Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy, is the most recommended treatment for individuals on the autism spectrum and other developmental disorders. While most ABA therapy programs focus on servicing children from 2-7 years old, Autism and Behavioral Center onboards clients up to 16 years old because some individuals need continued support as they age. We have broken down our ABA therapy programs by age group. In addition to one-on-one ABA therapy, we also provide ABA Parent Training and customized groups for clients receiving ABA therapy. ABC strives to teach children and adolescents to generalize their skills. This means they can transfer new information and apply skills to all areas of their life, such as in the community, at school, or in the home.
