Does this sound like your internal dialogue?: “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I just do better, be better? Will I always feel this broken?” What if the answer is that there is NOTHING wrong with you. What if you were to find out that you are fundamentally, at your core, a deeply good and capable human. What if love and acceptance for self and others were your status quo? We will explore aspects of yourself that may be difficult to love and accept, to help you better understand why you are repeating patterns that are harming you or the people around you, and to find a place where you can safely express all of who you are. I’m Ames. I am white, queer, non-binary/ trans and social justice oriented. I provide gender affirming and trauma informed care to those embarking on a journey related to gender and sexuality identity exploration or interested in working on trauma or abuse history. My training in dance/ movement therapy, EMDR, and acceptance practices will inform our work. Our work together will focus both on development of coping skills to navigate daily stressors and triggers and, at times, will look back to experiences from the past that influence your life and relationships. Letters of support for gender affirming care provided, no long term commitment necessary. I work with adults and children 12 and over.

Do you feel dissatisfied with life? Are you struggling with finding purpose? Maybe you notice that you tend to care for others before you care for yourself. You could have a hard time saying “no” or even feel guilty afterwards. These predicaments can stem from not intentionally and holistically honoring our being; mind, body, and spirit. Discipline and consistency, as values of self-care, can be incredibly difficult to implement in a world that’s fast-paced and focused on instant gratification. From racial disparities to social injustice, society forces us to adapt to inequity; how are you caring for you? Imagine releasing control of anything that does not serve you. As a holistic health practitioner, my mental health services incorporate evidence-based practices, yoga instruction (RYT-200), and/or reiki healing (Kemetic Reiki). My therapeutic approach involves mindfulness practice, movement, introspection, and self-study. I specialize in Black women issues. I am here for you. I’m here to encourage, challenge, advocate for, and meet you where you are. Let’s work together to customize and implement a plan based on your aspirations, and creatively tackle any barriers prohibiting you from experiencing optimum wellness. It is time to live for YOU, through intention, appreciation, self-compassion, and celebration!

You are the expert on your own life. Many believe that going to therapy is about someone else giving you the answers, but the truth is, therapy is all about someone coming alongside of you with support and encouragement so that you, the expert, can achieve the goals you want for your life. Therapy works because you choose it! My name is Ashley Slade and I am here to partner with you. As an eclectic/integrative therapist, I utilize many skills and techniques to advocate for you as an individual and for the situations that are present in your life. I will encourage your voice, verbally and nonverbally to enable self-expression, self-reflection, and self-awareness to help you build and maintain a positive sense of self. My psychotherapeutic approaches and interventions are humanistic, experiential, cognitive-behavioral, and psychoanalytic. My clinical lens is trauma informed – understanding that things happen to people, always believing your life narratives and recognizing that though there are steps to recovery, it isn’t easy. As a Movement Therapist, I focus on mind/body connection, facilitating breath-work, mindfulness and embodiment techniques.

Seeking balance? I am a trained social worker who works with women, men, couples, and adolescents. You may struggle with situations and issues in your life including but not limited to coping with strong emotions, thinking poorly of yourself, a traumatic event or experiencing frustration in relationships. Therapy, to me, is a collaborative process in which one is able to reflect on thought processes, emotional states, roles in a system, and ineffective behaviors while in a safe and secure environment. I try to create a collaborative alliance with my clients that allows them to understand themselves better and find balance. I use a mindfulness approach: the practice of being present in the current moment non-judgmentally of self. I may ask you to challenge yourself, reflect on perspective, or develop alternatives, but I will not push, judge, or tell you what to do. The power to heal is within you. Therapy provides an opportunity for growth. "The most fundamental aggression to ourselves, the most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves, is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently" - Pema Chödrön.

I feel I am a different kind of counselor, because there is not a sense of separation between client and counselor. Clients are often impressed with how quickly times goes in session, they explain, "it's like talking to a good friend", "you make me feel so comfortable and not judged". We still get the work done just as effectively, but prepare to feel more relaxed....our offices are homey and comfortable. We kick our feet up on a coffee table, and chat in a way that allows people to feel more like talking to a friend than a stranger. Certain people come into our lives for a reason. I believe the clients I work with have as much as a role coming into my life and teaching me something....as I do theirs. If it is meant to be that we cross paths, we will. All counselors at Chrysalis are super special, Clients are assigned to a counselor after a phone call with Chrysalis, and we determine the best fit. We have male & female counselors. We are a NH IDCMP/DWI program and we also specialize in Addictions, Mental Health, Evaluations, License Reinstatement , Anger Management, Veterans and DUI/DWI clients.
