I see psychotherapy as an opportunity to explore the stories of our lives with the hope of finding healing in our ability to connect more deeply with ourselves and one another other, gain insight, flexibility, compassion, and freedom. I specialize in working with individuals who are looking to heal from trauma, past or ongoing traumatic stress, sexual and gender-based violence, spiritual abuse, and grief. My practice is relational, trauma-focused and is rooted in Feminist, Relational-Cultural, and Attachment Theories. I have specialized training in several therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy, which allows my work to be eclectic and flexible to your needs. The process of finding a therapist can be intimidating. I'm happy to give you a chance to get to know me, my style, and get a feel for what it would be like to work with me. I offer a consultation session at no charge. I look forward to meeting you!

Anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships can all be extremely difficult. I appreciate how hard it is to reach out for help, but I want to hear your story and find out about your struggles as well as your strengths. So, let's figure this out together! Previous to opening my own private practice I had worked in a small clinic focused upon people struggling with personality disorders. Additionally, I have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, marital issues, and more. I became a therapist after 20 years as a professional musician and traveling all over the world. I believe my unique life experience has helped me to appreciate my patients and their unique stories, challenges, strengths, and desires.

My approach to therapy is that “no one size fits all,” and to meet you where you are at in a non-judgmental space. I work with adults in individual, group, and couples therapy, with people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, and other mental health issues detrimental to a fulfilling life. All of my client relationships begin with an opportunity for you to talk and to have someone listen. Whether you are a young professional or recent graduate, or undergoing a transition that finds you stuck at a crossroad, I have the experience to support you as you take the next step. In our sessions, we will explore different chapters in your life, considering how that past has shaped your present, and how to set the stage for a fulfilling future. I take a solutions-oriented approach, incorporating talk therapy with mindfulness, and and as a classically-trained pianist I also employ therapeutic interventions using music. Coming to therapy for the first time may feel intimidating, which is why I strive to create a safe, accepting space where we can work together. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, and welcomes all gender identities, sexual orientations, and cultures. Feel free to reach out for a free consultation or for more information.

With safety and presence, tending to and healing past wounds is possible. The things that have happened to you can become one part of your legacy, not the biggest part. You are not your suffering, you are so much more than that. I have cultivated a skill-set to help clients process and heal from trauma, depression, and anxiety. I use a blend of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and am provisionally certified in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Come find the space you need to share and explore your challenges and remember the strengths that you possess. You are stronger than you realize, and capable of amazing things. Together, we will work to find healthy ways of managing challenges and cultivating self-compassion that will remind you of your own resilience and worth.

My name is Ann L. P. Steely and I am a clinical social worker and owner of Heartland Psychotherapy. I specialize in working with adolescents/adults in individual and family therapy. My focus in therapy is on my relationship with you, understanding what you need as an individual, and using this understanding to help you find insight into how to make the changes you want to make in your life. Psychotherapy is a process of working together towards healing and change. I will help you understand yourself authentically and find greater ease through the exploration of your emotional experience, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. I treat all major mental health conditions and specialize in working with other mental health and health professionals as well as individuals wanting support around disordered eating, compulsions, problematic substance use, and challenges related to a loved one's substance use. My practice is affirming all genders/sexualities and racial/cultural identities. We are often presented with a plan for how our lives might look by our family, community, and society. What happens when your life goes off-script? Maybe you lose someone important to you, and you are left wondering how to pick up the pieces and move forward. Maybe you see your peers seeming to “check the boxes” of adulthood and feel like you’re falling behind or failing. Maybe you’ve retired and are finding it difficult to adjust to a life outside your job. Maybe you don’t fit into the straight, binary norm and you’re struggling to find what a full and healthy life looks like for you when you don't have a template. All of these situations can leave you feeling lost, and may lead to problems with anxiety and depression. How do you find meaning and hope when things aren’t the way you expected them to be? Let's look for the answer to this question. I use an affirming, client-centered approach to help you find the direction you want to take and the tools you need. I work with adults over 25, of all genders. I am currently accepting new clients for telehealth and in-person therapy. Contact me via email or phone to set up a free consultation call.

You've never really felt like you are enough. Sure, you've been successful in school, at work, and well, at life... for the most part (at least it looks that way to other people). But deep down, it has always felt like there is something missing... something wrong - and you wonder if maybe there's actually just something wrong with you. You push your feelings down. You stretch yourself too thin, work too hard, and just can't say "no." You worry about what other people think of you and hope that you're enough for them. You wish it could stop - that you could feel good enough to have happiness and love and actually feel worthy of it. Imagine feeling connected, loved, and whole. Imagine waking up and feeling like you actually deserve the good things in your life. Imagine living your life without waiting for the other shoe to drop. Imagine getting things done, without feeling like you're always one step behind. Imagine a life where you can celebrate your wins and feel proud of yourself. The life you want is actually possible, but finding the "right" therapist online can be so hard. I try to make the process a bit easier by offering free, 20 minute phone consultations, so that you can determine if we may be a good fit before we even get started. There's no obligation, so schedule one, here: https://amitytherapysolutions.clientsecure.me/

If you are finding yourself in need of therapy then chances are searching for a new therapist may be feeling a bit daunting right now. Whether you are going through a significant life situation or if your distress seems to have caught you by surprise, I thought it would be helpful to share some highly likely topics of exploration that can be expected during our work together as a means to seeing the change you want to see - no matter what your desires for therapy may be: self-compassion; core emotions; boundaries; core beliefs about yourself; autonomy; vulnerability; self-worth; healthy relationships of all types; strengths. View 6 Photos I have extensive experience working with individuals impacted by trauma related to intimate partner violence and sexual assault as well as from abuse and neglect. The core of my work uses feminist theory to explore how systems of oppression as well as socialization impact our emotional health and explore how one can move toward empowerment and autonomy. In Session was created with the hope that a serene space can allow you to find respite from your busy world long enough to slow down and put yourself first. I strive to always be genuine, empathetic and warm so that you may feel safe, accepted and open as you navigate the pains and joys that occur throughout therapy. I hope to connect with you soon.

Aloha. Thank you for your interest in my practice. I am currently full and not available to accept new clients until after January 2022. Children are our most important resource. Play is language for children and important work. Play therapy helps your child leap forward in development, learn to follow directions, and resolve worries. Whether you are a single parent or a couple struggling to parent effectively together, play therapy can help reveal your child's thoughts and emotions. This opens the door for you to understand and respond in a way that helps your child feel more secure and develop age-appropriate skills. I have assisted many families through difficult times. I may be able to help your family, too.

Beginning therapy can often be difficult and may carry a host of fears, uncertainties, and challenges. I believe that it can also be a life changing journey that can help explore those difficult pieces and peel those layers that have kept us from being our authentic selves. My clients are often young adults, parents, those starting a new phase in their life, or anyone navigating the process of individuation and creating change. My clients are often looking to create healthy boundaries and relationships with themselves and others. Many are healing from past trauma, toxic relationships, or entering a new phase in life. My focus has been with all forms of trauma and the relationship one can have with themselves and the world around them. My experience includes depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, co-dependency, and boundaries; particularly with adult children of parents with mental illness. I also enjoy working with all parents and those raising neurodivergent children. I use a humanistic approach to explore a person's past and how those experiences help shape present day feelings and behaviors. With humor and empathy I believe in building trust and a solid therapeutic relationship to help my clients achieve their goals. I feel honored to be invited into the lives and experiences of so many.
