Do people ask how you are doing and the answer is always “fine” or “ok”? Or maybe you avoid letting yourself feel uncomfortable emotions? Possibly putting off facing them until you feel more ready, but that day never comes? Depression, anxiety, and trauma can do that to us. They can change our trajectory in life, veer us off course of who we were meant to be. Shadows from the past can loom over us forever. If this is your experience, my sincerest hope is one day you will feel ready to no longer allow your past to place limits on the future. With my 14 years of experience in the field, my goal is to promote a safe space for us to fully understand your experience. Using a nonjudgmental approach, we will explore the ways you want to feel, what's standing in the way, and how to get you where you want to be. It takes courage to choose you, to take the time and do the work to invest in yourself. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. It is brave to share yourself with a stranger. I'd be honored for the opportunity to share your journey and together figure out how to get closer to the life you were meant to live. A life with purpose and fulfillment. You deserve a sense of passion and a life of worth. You deserve a life without limits.

The decision to begin therapy can be challenging, you have just taken a courageous first step. I view therapy as a collaborative process, where clients are encouraged to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a supportive, nonjudgmental, and compassionate setting. Our work together will help you understand yourself in relation to the world around you and to your life experiences. I believe in mind/body connection and incorporate mindfulness into my practice. Research shows that empowering clients with stress management techniques and mindfulness practice helps decrease levels of stress and anxiety and improves quality of life. View 4 Photos My therapeutic style is empathetic, supportive, and direct. I incorporate humor and laughter whenever possible. I work most often treating symptoms related to depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, substance use and life transitions and combine cognitive-behavioral, relational, mindfulness, Gottman (level 2) and psychodynamic approaches. I hope we can identify difficulties, think about where they have originated from, and learn coping skills to hopefully eradicate the difficulties you presented to therapy with. During treatment, I hope to facilitate growth and result in an overall healthier version of you.

My ideal client is someone ready to go beyond just talking about problems, and instead, dive deep within themselves to heal. In my 12 years of clinical practice, I have observed that true and lasting healing must involve the mind. body, and soul. As a Yoga Therapy Teacher-in-Training, I believe that somatic work is crucial to deeper healing. I also emphasize the importance of meditation, mindfulness, and spirituality. In my office or virtually, I offer a safe space, an empathic heart, and a variety of brain-based, trauma-centered modalities. View 10 Photos EMDR and Brain Spotting are my two favorite modalities, and both can be done virtually. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant in Training (CIT). I am a Certified Brainspotting Therapist and working toward a specialized track in BSP and spirituality . Check out www.EMDRIA.org and www.Brainspotting.com for more info. I believe that in order to heal, people need to feel safe and supported. My healing style focuses on finding your internal strength, shedding old negative beliefs about yourself that no longer serve you. I specialize in work with complex trauma, anxiety, grief, codependency, radical self-love, and self-acceptance. I am EMDR trained. I believe counseling should be more than just managing symptoms and changing behavior. we each have a story that may be effecting how we are living life today. Additionally, many times in life we experience loss and this goes unprocessed, unheard, and many people become silent sufferers, which can then lead to more significant mental health struggles. By helping individuals and couples mourn their loss, I help individuals not get stuck in their grief and find renewal, balance, hope and healing. I am a licensed professional counselor with 20 years experience working in the mental health field. Having worked in a wide range of settings from psychiatric hospitals, large health care systems and in private practice, I have refined my skills and have chosen to specialize in Grief and Loss, Trauma Healing, EMDR, and Couples therapy. I believe that everyone struggles with something, though not all struggles look the same. I am honored to use my natural skill sets to help individuals find healing in their life and their relationships through looking at the present, past, and future through objective compassionate eyes.

I believe that we are all beings who ultimately desire to belong and that most of our traumas result from somewhere down the line not being accepted in some way, shape, or form. Frequently these wounds are in our subconscious and we have very little awareness of how much they can control our day-to-day interactions. What’s left unaddressed has a funny way of continuing to surface. I am dedicated to psycho-social treatments that are tailor-made to the individual and include sensitivity and respect for their cultural and spiritual framework. I offer a holistic approach to treating trauma and its effects on mind, body and spirit. I do not take commercial insurance but offer sliding-scale telehealth only at this time. As a queer neurodivergent non-binary (trans-masc) clinician they/she, my counseling work has a strong emphasis on LGBTQIA2S+ as well as survivors of both spiritual abuse, narcissistic abuse, sexual abuse/assault (including childhood sexual abuse) and adult children of childhood abuse.

In your therapy, I will work carefully to provide a calm, warm, safe space in which to explore your unique self, and what happiness, satisfaction, and fulfillment look like for you. As therapy progresses, we will talk about everything that is important to you. I offer in person sessions informed by DBT, IFS, and CBT aimed at helping you to do and feel better as you define it. Tired of enduring a difficult life, career or relationship? Looking for practical, out-of-the-box solutions for anxiety, depression, and the life circumstances that cause them? Tried therapy before with disappointing results? For 35 years, I have been augmenting traditional therapeutic methods with a variety of techniques, including EMDR Therapy, CRM Therapy, heart rate variability training (Heartmath), body centered approaches, mindfulness training, hypnosis, and ego-state interventions, to facilitate deep internal changes. These interventions take place within the context of a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment. My therapeutic style is interactive, engaging, and collaborative. Having specialized in trauma-based symptoms, I have witnessed how unprocessed trauma - especially subtle childhood trauma and attachment failures - lead to symptoms that might not initially appear related to our history. Over time, these traumas may manifest in depression, anxiety, relational conflicts, or career challenges. EMDR done online via remote. My multidimensional techniques and strategies can soften the traumatic underpinnings of these symptoms and make life easier. I offer a free short phone consultation followed by a free initial session if we are not a good match. Individuals, couples and families ages 14 and up.

CURRENTLY NOT Accepting Clients. I love my work as a couples' counselor. As a Gottman Seven Principles Program Educator, I have 20+ years experience helping couples & individuals improve communication, rekindle intimacy and improve awareness of patterns that may result in defensiveness, feeling "not heard" by your partner. In individual therapy, I create a warm environment so clients feel comfortable to share their issues. Together we develop goals & strategies for cultivating positive changes. In couples work, we address problematic communication to change those patterns from ineffective to effective habits & behaviors. I help you learn to be more aware of those patterns, so each partner can put into place skills and techniques for enhancing intimacy. Therefore, you can learn to enjoy each other for who you are, appreciating again the strengths and positive qualities that you first felt in each other. I'm a Gottman Seven Priniciples Program Educator, teaching skills from "The Seven Principles For Making Marriage Work," by John Gottman, Ph.D. of the Gottman Institute. I would enjoy speaking with you about any questions about counseling or feel free to visit my website, www.kathleenpolcer.com.

My approach to therapy and evaluations is individualized based on my clients' needs and personal background and goals. My therapy approach utilizes cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal & existential modalities, adapted specifically for my clients. I incorporate positive psychology elements by being client-centered, non-judgmental, & utilizing clients' strengths in developing goals & a plan for treatment. I help clients gain insight into the nature of their difficulties, while creating a plan for progress and improved functioning. I prefer to work with adolescent & adult clients individually. I specialize in individual therapy, psychological evaluations, and consultation services. Often people avoid therapy because they are worried about being judged, criticized, or misunderstood. I feel confident that you will find me to be a genuinely accepting, understanding, and caring person. I use a supportive approach to help client's strive for the changes they want to achieve.

Whether you are looking to make a change in your life or are seeking support due to a difficult loss, I believe the decision to seek professional support is an action of both courage and strength. I work with many younger adults surrounding professional challenges, transitions to new environments, and changes in life circumstances. If you're ready to talk, I'm ready to listen. I conduct therapy from an insight-oriented perspective, and sometimes utilize EMDR, an integrative form of psychotherapy, in my work with clients. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who enjoys working with couples, families, and individuals of all ages who desire a stronger connection with their loved ones. The most important aspect of therapy is helping clients uncover their inherent strengths and empowering them to create lasting change in themselves and their relationships! As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I utilize systems theory when working with clients toward their goals. Systems thinking emphasizes the ways in which we are all interconnected and all influenced by our environment, including our personal family history and past events. I believe that the quality of our relationships greatly influences our quality of life! I completely understand that taking the steps to seek therapy can be tough. I am here to listen and collaborate with you, not make judgments or talk you out of how you're feeling. We all need help sometimes, and knowing when to reach out is a major strength. Together, we can work toward achieving your goals.
