Hello! I'm Maurissa and I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. I started practicing therapy in 2016 at a therapeutic day school. While there, I also started work at a small group practice on the side. I eventually left the schools and worked at the group practice full-time for 2 years. I decided that I needed more stability so I began work at Hanover Township in the Youth & Family Services Department as a Family Therapist. I specialize in trauma, Autism/ADHD, and anxiety. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

Therapy is all about going on a personal odyssey through the life events that happened to you. Let's re-examine those events to free and learn about the unique and authentic human you were born to be buried under a lifetime of "shoulds" imposed by others. Let's EMPOWER that authentic human to create their own, unique path to their "best life worth living" from the core of their own reality and truth-- A life that exists on THEIR terms because ONLY they are destined to walk in the unique path of those decisions. Let's make that journey everything that authentic human wants it to be. You are NOT alone in your Odyssey. We truly care! Reach out and we will walk with you to support you on your unique Odyssey! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in both North Carolina and Virginia with a PhD in counseling and a year of completed medical school training. I have practiced social work over the course of 20 years as a community advocate, professor, psychotherapist, teacher, researcher, the assistant director of a behavioral health department in a rapidly growing CMO in North Carolina and have worked with government officials in countries throughout Africa, regions of India, and Central America as well as almost every contiguous US state. My programs, workshops, and presentations have won awards both nationally and internationally. My therapeutic approach is based in both, client-centered methods and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with various branches; DBT (certified) ACT etc. When appropriate, I also use solution focused and internal family systems methods as well. I am certified in grief counseling, mindfulness, and trauma informed CBT. I have intensely studied the major Bibles of the World and have lived within the cultures influenced by each Bible. My own spirituality now involves the primary similarities of ALL of those Bibles as, I refuse to believe that HOW you thank YOUR G-d is received any differently than the way I worship and thank my G-d. We are all created with purpose, value and worth because our version of a Perfect Being would not make a mistake on your birthday and then, return to being perfect. Accept and embrace the human you were born to be and evaluate the mountain of other people's "shoulds" that buried that creation in a mound of shame, self-loathing and embarrassment. Our uniquenesses allow us to create a viable society that meets our human needs AND, it provides us ALL with something to teach and something to learn from the other.
