Recent Updates From Dwight Hignite
Last updated | Monday February 17, 2025

As a clinician I tend to focus on building a genuine, warm and positive relationship. I believe that every person has within themselves the power to heal. I see my job as providing my client with a safe and supportive place for them to discover their own strengths. I use stories and metaphors in therapy to help the client discover deeper truths. I also use techniques from a counseling theory called Internal Family Systems and have had much success with it. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction and especially trauma.

I worked in an agency setting for twelve years and gained experience with a multitude of different issues. However, the issue that I have focused mostly on is trauma. I have seen how childhood trauma continues to haunt adults both in my practice and through my own personal journey. Trauma can lead to depression, anxiety and a host of other "disorders".
I learned theory and techniques in graduate school but through years of practice I have come to believe that theory and technique only go so far. I use my own life experiences, both successes and failures, to help clients in session. I know what it is like to be wounded by the past. I use those wounds to help others heal. Good can come from bad.
