Recent Updates From Laura A.
Last updated | Tuesday October 22, 2024
I provide speech language therapy to infants, children, adolescents, and adults. My specialties include developmental delay, articulation and language disorder, motor speech disorder, fluency (stuttering) and voice (vocal nodules) disorders, and cognitive language disorder as a result of stroke or traumatic brain injury. I treat progressive neurological disorders (parkinson's disease, MS) and memory disorders (alzheimers, dementia). I work with families and caregivers regarding acceptance, adaptation, and decisions about communication and swallowing. My mission is to teach my clients and their families to advocate for full participation in communication in the community.
Speech Language Therapy focuses on receptive language and expressive language. It also deals with the mechanics of producing speech. Adults may need speech language therapy after a stroke or traumatic accident. Children may need speech language therapy to aid in achieving developmental milestones in speech and language skills.
In my treatment I employ cognitive linguistic therapy, play therapy, and elements of integrated language. I work with a team of professionals from the education, mental health, and holistic health professions. We provide an integrative therapy approach at the Healing Circles Wellness Center.
