Everyone deserves dignity and respect. My job as a counselor is to listen and provide non-judgmental support for whatever challenges you are facing. I want to work collaboratively with you to set goals and achieve progress toward your well-being. I believe that people have a choice about their behavior, but they are also a product of their environment and experience, influenced by culture and relationships. I work with my clients to raise awareness of their motivations and goals, and to gain control of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
I build a therapeutic relationship with clients based on empathy, curiosity, and respect. I celebrate diversity and I advocate for people from all populations, especially those from marginalized and oppressed groups. I am passionate about working with survivors of abuse, children and families, and first responders experiencing secondary trauma.
One of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou summarizes my feelings about counseling: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
