As a therapist with a focus on developmental trauma and working with queer and trans adults and teens, I believe that early life experiences and ongoing structural contexts immensely inform our relationship to ourselves and each other. I hold this framework with my background in somatic psychotherapy, which considers the ways our bodies and nervous systems relate to our emotions and experiences. There is no one way to relate to the past, embody our feelings, or find healing. In therapy, we find a way for you together. My role is to hold consistent curiosity, rigor, and care throughout the process of your own self-discovery. I frequently work with those who are navigating complex trauma (CPTSD) symptoms or who are struggling with perfectionism, shame, dissociation, and issues with self-worth. I welcome themes related to belonging, grief and loss, queer and trans community dynamics, non-monogamy, BDSM/kink, chronic illness and disability, and loneliness/isolation. Please reach out for a consultation to see if working together feels like a right fit for you.

I use somatic therapy and IFS (Internal Family Systems) to help clients mindfully attune to their mental, physical and emotional needs. I am trained in the flash technique (EMDR) for trauma processing and I offer ketamine-assisted therapy. I also specialize in working with people who have experienced religious trauma, who are dealing with life transitions, and/or who are neurodivergent. If you have struggled with the impacts of trauma or with feeling "too sensitive," I am here to support you. If you've had a challenging psychedelic experience that you'd like to process, I also offer psychedelic integration therapy. View 5 Photos In all my client work, I draw from research in neuroscience and mindfulness. I help clients develop nervous system awareness, so that they learn to recognize and regulate their moods and physiology. I direct clients to 'zoom in' to specific body sensations, and also ‘zoom out’ to locate individual experience within a structurally oppressive society. I work with clients of all backgrounds and my work is informed by the understanding that patriarchy, ableism, homophobia, racism, and the demands of capitalism all impact mental health. I bring empathy, understanding, and humor to support each individual. I am accepting new clients and offer a free consultation to learn about you and answer any questions.

Finding relief, gaining confidence and increasing satisfaction in your relationships is not a distant dream. I invite you to visit my website to learn more about my practice. I will endeavor to travel with you fearlessly, honestly and directly through the battles you are facing as a professionally-trained, impartial friend ... who you avoid eye contact with at the supermarket. I work mostly conversationally, but enjoy tangents into creative expression to bypass well-worn defensive structures of the overly-relied-on brain. With parents from two different continents and a childhood in a third, I am a product of globalization. I am incredibly curious about how we exist and make choices in this increasingly complex world of enmeshed culture and fractured identities. Knowing I wanted to approach therapy in a unique manner, I studied Drama Therapy. With that knowledge base, and previous experience in improvisational theater and fine art, my approach veers toward the embodied, the sensory, and the creative.

People often come to therapy because they feel stuck in their lives, are experiencing anxiety or depression and are struggling with personal and professional relationships. My style is warm, supportive and engaged. I believe that the more access we have to our authentic selves, the more we can live a life that is deeply fulfilling. We will work collaboratively to develop a relationship in which there is room to take risks and experience aspects of yourself that may have been previously unknown to you. You will gain valuable tools to help you reach your goals personally, creatively, and professionally. I specialize in issues related to trauma, loss, and personal identity. I work with people facing life transitions that have ruptured their sense of self and relationship to the world. I also work with couples wishing to increase connection while balancing the conflicting demands of their personal and professional lives. I completed a three year post-graduate intensive training in psychodynamic therapy at The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley. I bring a socio-cultural lens to my work and am interested in how issues of race, culture, gender, sexuality, religion and class inform our experiences our ourselves and others.

I work to help my clients experience more vitality, control, peace, connection, focus and flexibility in their social and emotional lives, depending, of course, on what they are looking for. My clients often seek relief from patterns, ranging from subtly nagging to chronic and severe, of painful feelings, negative thoughts and self-sabotaging behaviors that stem from their experience of growing up in particular worlds and particular histories that were traumatic or difficult or confusing. We work on understanding and change. I prefer a flexible, collaborative approach that evolves as we get to know who you are and what you care about, as well as what you’re sick of. Over time we learn about where your discouragement or hopelessness has come from, untangling and dissolving what diminishes you. We also work on what makes you laugh and brings you deeper joy. I work well with people who have tried therapy but found it wanting; who are skeptical about therapy or afraid to try it; who have doubted they could find someone who could deal with their story; who are afraid of feeling; who have no idea where to start; or who know what they want to work on but also suspect there’s more to it than that.

My primary area of focus has been working with people who suffer from trauma and anxiety, in addition to depression. I do much work with those who suffer from emotional neglect, abuse histories, & post-traumatic stress (PTSD). I'm certified in EMDR and am continually impressed at the ability of something so simple to so rapidly relieve pain and suffering. EMDR has been listed as one of the leading trauma therapies. It can also be very effective in helping those who suffer from a childhood history of family difficulties and a lack of nurturing. Also trained in Somatic Experiencing. EMDR studies show high degrees of effectiveness with the following conditions: Fears or Depression related to Trauma, Surviving Childhood Abuse, Performance & Test Anxiety, Sexual/Physical Abuse, Anxiety/Panic Attacks, Surviving an Assault or Robbery, Surviving Rape or an Accident, Witnessing Violence, Loss or Injury of a Loved One, Childhood Trauma. As my previous profession involved working with immigrants, teaching them English and how to better acclimate to American society, I'm sensitive to the cross-cultural issues that people in this group face in adapting to this new home.

Life will present us now and then with the unexpected.  This clearly is a time of major change for all of us. Not all of this is new nor is it novel. Even in the most normal of times we often do experience unwelcome events, the loss of a loved one, disability, addiction, economic insecurity, loneliness. To live is perhaps also to suffer. But we need not suffer alone. You will find me to be a compassionate, capable psychotherapist. Working together, I can help you to live a happier, more contented and fulfilling life. So then, where are you now? Where would you like to go from here? Would you like to create a new narrative?  View 3 Photos I bring to the consulting room a lifetime of healing experience. I received my PhD at the Wright Institute, was a post-graduate intern UCSF and UC Berkeley Postgraduate Fellow in Psychology at the Student Counseling Center. I continue to enjoy students, teachers, learning and writing. You might like my books Jung for Beginners and 12 Step Restorative Yoga. We can overcome internalized oppression. There is a special place in my practice for adult children of alcoholics and others who come from dysfunctional families. Those of us born into minority communities carry an additional burden. Relationship building can often be difficult quite apart from one's sexual orientation. We may need help to find our way.

Navigating life's challenges is never easy, but reaching out for help is a brave first step to living a more genuine and fulfilling life. I have expertise in working with individuals struggling with childhood trauma and trauma-related symptoms such as grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and relational conflict. I believe every client is unique and deserves to be listened to and understood in an empathetic way. I am passionate about creating a safe, kind, collaborative and judgment-free space where clients can attain new insights, experience new feelings, and find a renewed sense of physical and mental well-being. I draw from EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and DBT. I believe that past experiences and traumas dating back to childhood strongly influence the way we feel about ourselves and others. I will prompt you to explore your past and listen to repeating negative patterns. I also utilize somatic (body-centered) approaches to treating PTSD. I also believe that maladaptive or irrational thoughts strongly influence how we feel and behave. By exploring and challenging these thoughts, the goal would be for you to overcome symptoms of depression and anxiety and begin to lead a life in which you feel more connected to yourself, others and the world. I am a psychologist with 20 years of experience. I understand that life doesn't always go the way we want or planned for. This has happened to me, my loved ones and clients. How we react says a lot about not only who we are, but who we can be. Sometimes we need another perspective or feedback from a neutral person to help us get unstuck. Challenges and adversity truly can help us become better people. I had a thriving practice in the Bay Area, CA. However, I moved to Boulder, CO and want to serve the community here. Because I just opened my practice in Boulder in the Spring, I have openings! I've helped numerous individuals over the years, including those with relationship problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss & grief, parenting struggles, cultural/racial issues, and health problems. I know it is huge to take the first step and make a call. I'm happy to be a listening ear but I also provide a great deal of feedback when you are ready. I love my job - it brings a great deal of meaning to help others. I'm looking forward to helping you find your path in life, too.

Asking for help can be scary; whatever you are facing is welcome and does not need to be faced alone. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and trained in EMDR. In our sessions together, I will use exercises and principles from these modalities along with parts work and body-based mindfulness practices to help you learn more about how trauma is stored in our bodies and affects our day-to-day lives. I work with adults, teens, and children. I am passionate about working with C-PTSD, grief, addiction, codependency, depression, nervous system regulation, terminal illness, LGBTQ+ issues, and building secure attachment. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Somatic Psychology . As a therapist, I work relationally and am client-centered. I believe the strength of the relationship we form together can create a ripple effect of healing in your relationships outside of the therapy room. I will walk with you as you remember your authentic self and reclaim your power over the present.

I work with children, adolescents and adults, helping to support them and to make meaning as they respond to life's challenges, such as childbirth, adoption, loss of a child, death of a family member, infertility, early childhood trauma, and other life transitions. In addition to working with adults and parents in individual therapy, I specialize in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, working with the dyad to develop a mutually satisfying and enriching relationship. I work individually with children and adolescents, including infants and fussy babies. Many adults struggle due to unresolved traumas and broken attachments from early life. As a result they may experience anxiety, depression, or other forms of suffering. Ruptures in relationships happen for many reasons and their impact can span generations. You can't change a traumatic event that has already happened, but you can change the meaning you ascribe to that event. Children heal from trauma through a secure relationship with a caregiver. I serve as a conduit, helping the parent or caregiver become a healing agent for their own child.

I take a holistic, somatic and transpersonal/spiritual approach to therapy, looking deeply into the interplay between mind, body and spirit and working at the root level of our physical experience: the nervous system. I work collaboratively with clients to explore socio-cultural considerations, how we fit or don't fit in that context and our opportunities for growth. We'll sort through to find and examine unconscious patterns and get creative to generate alternatives that put you more in line with your goals and life purpose. If you don't know what those are, we'll figure that out too. I have over two decades of experience as an elementary & middle school teacher and counselor. My experience lends a multi-faceted expertise in human development across the lifespan. I am a yoga & meditation teacher, utilizing both eastern and western traditions. I am an EMDR practitioner, SEP and hold a certificate in Nutritional Psychology. We'll work together to develop a creative framework in which to explore your strengths. Deep integrative work can be done through traditional talk therapy along with other modalities such as EMDR, mindfulness, yoga & somatic therapy or expressive arts and collaborating with complementary and alternative medicine providers.

As a psychologist, I provide a bridge between traditional psychotherapy and alternative modalities, in a highly individualized approach.Hypnotherapy integrated with psychotherapy can effectively reduce stress and anxiety, while resolving issues of relationships, career, health, or self-development. Hypnosis is a natural way to empower you to "change your brain." Release negative beliefs, shift self-defeating habits to life enhancing ones, discover your "source self" and utilize creative inner resources that you may not even be aware you have. I also utilize EMDR and cognitive behavioral therapy to re-configure a "problem" into a "solution." For couples, I focus therapy on evolving conflict into mutually satisfying interactions that facilitate growth and self-development. For both individual and couples therapy, I am dedicated to helping you develop lifelong skills. In addition to my work as a psychologist and hypnotherapist, I am a professor of psychology. I have always sought methods to integrate mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual levels. I believe in natural self-healing and an intuitive wisdom that we all possess but often need help to discern.
