With two locations in Hartford and Cheshire, the Anxiety Disorders Center (Director: David Tolin, Ph.D.) provides outpatient, individual therapy for adults and children with anxiety disorders (including panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, separation anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder), obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (including obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder, trichotillomania, and skin-picking disorder), illness anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and school refusal/avoidance. In most cases, we provide individual cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT emphasizes teaching people how to feel less anxious. Whereas traditional psychotherapy often takes place over several years, CBT is designed to be a relatively brief treatment with distinct, tangible goals. The Anxiety Disorders Center is staffed by licensed psychologists who are experts in CBT for anxiety. As a clinical, research, and teaching facility, additional options may be available. Please visit our website to learn more about our program or to schedule an appointment for an initial assessment.

Are you experiencing frequent conflict and/or emotional distance in your marriage or relationship? Or are you struggling w/ dating? As a therapist who specializes in romantic relationships, I can help. I do so by relying on research, specifically Attachment Theory, The Familiarity Principle and The Gottman Institute's 40+ years of research focused on identifying what all happy marriages have in common, the root cause of all divorces and the "antidote" to it. So if you're seeking: 1) pre-marital counseling 2) marital/relationship counseling 3) individually considering divorce 4) dating coaching or counseling, please reach out today! Having been in the Mental Health Field for 20+ years, I take a very research-based approach to my work. This means I draw from my extensive training/experience as a Parent Educator in HI's Child Welfare System and as a Licensed Therapist here in CT. For those interested in a Dating Consultation or Dating Coaching, please review https://cybilryan.com today! I recognize that starting therapy can be intimidating. But having worked with never-married, married, divorced and widowed clients, I also recognize that EVERYONE brings their own unique issues to dating, relationships, marriage & divorce. So please reach out today to educate the self on the self - always crucial when seeking & working toward lasting love!

To seek therapy takes courage and curiosity. The process of therapy gives us the opportunity to explore the impact of the multiple systems with which we are connected- family, work, home, friends, community- in the context of an affirming relationship with the therapist. Through this process, we come to better understand how we have interacted with these systems over time. The strategies we have developed to navigate them successfully, and how these systems have impacted us, contributing to both opportunities and challenges. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, with experience working with individuals, couples, and families, I approach my work from a systemic and integrative perspective. Understanding that people are unique, complex, and influenced by multiple experiences in multiple contexts, what "works" for one person, may not "work" for another. Knowing what to do in our complex and demanding world can be difficult, at times, for anyone. If you would like to make a change, I am ready to help. Please give me a call.

I specialize in helping people restore health and balance back to their lives using a strength-based and solution focused approach. It’s my belief that everyone deserves to experience the best version of themselves no matter what conditions they may find themselves in. I’m offering video counseling at this time with a specific focus on assisting men with managing their stress, improving communication with their partners & families, expressing their needs and increasing their range of coping strategies. A lot of men find it difficult to reach out for emotional support, because the world they were raised in bombarded them with messages that men who showed emotions are weak. I am here to help individuals break that narrative, so that our good men of this generation can finally heal from the trauma passed down to them sold as “male culture.” I would be happy to help in anyway that I can. Feel free to reach out to me if you feel that I’d be a good fit for you.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of professional experience. I have worked with clients of all ages and with the full spectrum of psychiatric diagnoses. I have a particular interest in working with children, couples and families. I use primarily a cognitive/behavioral approach in my work. I have training in dialectical behavior therapy. I also have extensive experience working with clients who experience problems with aggression. I feel that the most important element of any therapeutic work is the relationship with the therapist. Therapeutic techniques can only be effective if utilized in the context of an empathic therapeutic relationship.

Therapy is really about you. My approach is influenced by Person-Centered and Cognitive-Behavioral therapy. Basically, this means that you lead with what you’d like to discuss, I help to find connections between thoughts and behaviors, then together we discuss helpful tools, skills, or next steps. Whether you’re searching for peace, clarity, or healing, we will work towards your goal together. It is important to find a therapist that you connect with. Working together is more successful with a therapist you trust. I provide an unbiased, collaborative, open, and relaxed environment and strive for honest and direct communication. I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, posttraumatic stress disorder, crisis intervention, stress, life transitions or adjustments, identity conflicts, pathological deviance, etc. I also specialize in working with the forensic population, those who have involvements or experiences with the legal system, the LGBTQIA population, etc. I applaud you for researching local therapists, because sometimes that first step—signing up for therapy—is the hardest one. When you’re ready, reach out to set up an appointment, and we can traverse the next steps together. I offer both in-person sessions as well as tele-health remote sessions.

My area of focus is sexuality and relationships. I primarily work with lgbtqia+, couples, and individuals who seek work around attachment wounds. I love working with clients who are searching to find comfort in their own identity and future. My passion is driven by helping people who have yet to find their voice, and those who are searching for healthier partnerships. I love helping individuals to find their sense of self worth, improve their boundaries, and feel fulfilled in their every day lives. With couples, I offer a safe space to help them better understand one another’s needs, and engage with more effective communication. My practice in therapy is integrative- I often use different modalities depending on client(s) needs. This includes emotionally focused, family systems, attachment theory, DBT and CBT, all within a trauma informed framework. Most importantly, this is a judgement free zone! I believe that all humans have a right to love, compassion, pleasure and happiness. Currently accepting individual clients only. Telehealth platform.

I have successfully worked with adults and children, couples and families, with both common and complex needs. My approach focuses on experiential awareness and processing, while working through present day thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is holistic in that it views symptoms as attempts at coping. We work together establishing a calm place within you, through the enhancement of personal awareness, resources, and developing coping strategies; we then progress beyond coping skills, moving through the roots of old learning so that your change is lasting, and from the inside out. My experience includes working in both a psychiatric hospital for 27 years and local community mental health agencies. My training has moved me in the direction of mind-body psychotherapy approaches. I am family-systems oriented in thinking, and I tend to focus on helping clients with emotion regulation issues in practice. In addition to Marriage and Family therapy, I am trained in EMDR , IFS , and DBT; these approaches work well with various issues including anxiety, trauma/stress, impulsive behaviors, & mood disorders. Also EMDR has been successful with enhancing workplace performance, aiding in the reduction of performance anxiety, competition preparation, and psychological recovery from injury for athletes.

Asking for help can take much energy and courage. I approach each client with this in mind knowing what it takes to open up to another person. Each individual/couple comes to therapy with unique concerns/issues so I work with this in ensuring the treatment is geared specifically to the individual/couple. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaboration between the therapist and the client. As such, we work together to integrate your ideals and values into the treatment so that changes are easier to implement and maintain. My areas of specialty include working with individuals dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, grief and substance dependency/abuse. I work with adolescents/teens, emerging adults (18-25), and adults. In addition to psychotherapy, we offer psychological/educational assessments for a more thorough understanding of the individual. I provide several treatment options -- in office sessions; sessions at the location of your choice (home, office, etc.) or tele-therapy sessions -- sessions held via telephone, Skpye, Facetime, etc.
