Accepting New Clients! I am a Mental Health Counselor working towards full licensure in the state of Iowa. I received both my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa and Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa. I have worked with ages 4 to adulthood on issues such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions. I enjoy working with clients who believe in their ability to change and are motivated to make those changes. In my work, I tend to use person-centered and strength-based approaches. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and as such my goal as a therapist is to create a safe space and meet each person where they are at in their journey. Having seen a therapist myself, I recognize the need for counseling and know how difficult taking that first step to reach out can be. Feel free to contact me as I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Families, couples and individuals impacted by trauma can find it difficulty to get the help they need. Trauma can impact a families basic ability to communicate and get along, fuel a couples difficulty to feel safe and heard by one another and erode an individuals ability to self regulate. It is common to feel stuck and more often than not, unacknowledged or unresolved trauma is the culprit. If you suspect there is trauma at play, holding you and your loved one back from real progress and change, real long lasting change is here. As a marriage and family therapist and a certified trauma professional, I possess a unique understanding of trauma and its transmission both generationally and genetically. My personal trauma has equipped me with insight that clients report as refreshing and insightful. Services are trauma, multicultural and social justice informed. Services include education on the effects, prevention, and recovery of trauma. Multiculturally-informed means biases (which we all have) such as ageism or sexism are seen as opportunities to increase awareness, strengthen relationships and enhance services. Cultural sensitivity is a priority.

Hi, I'm Jenna. My therapeutic approach stems from my philosophy on healing and growth; it comes about through relationships and our connection with others. I believe we all desire a sense of belonging and thrive within community. My role as your therapist is to join you on your journey and provide a safe space where you feel comfortable to explore your inner world, and the world around you. I have experience working with women, gender-expansive individuals, and couples. I’ve worked closely with those struggling with relational issues, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and those who have experienced intimate partner violence. I work from a relational-cultural approach with a heavy emphasis on an anti-oppressive, feminist lens. Our work together will vary on your goals and the direction you take it; I always strive to empower my clients to guide how they want their healing journey to look. In addition to traditional talk-therapy, we can incorporate yoga, art, and meditation. It can take time to find a therapist you feel connected with. I would be honored to help you meet your goals while honoring your experience thus far. I am looking forward to meeting you, and getting to know your story. I aim to co-create a space with you where you will feel understood, supported, and challenged in a safe and empowering way.

I want to help clients build the strength and confidence to face major life transitions and effectively work through uncomfortable emotions. If someone is struggling with postpartum depression, for example, I will support them until they realize they’re not alone and they are feeling able to cope. When you work with me, you’ll become more confident in asking for help and reaching out to resources and supports. Overall, I will help you find a sense of hope that it's not always going to be like this. My goal as a therapist is to listen to you when no one else will and help you find a voice when you feel like you don’t have one. Depending on the situation, I can be a lot of different things: a listening ear, an educator, an advocate, a life coach, or a guide down the right path. Mainly, I am a helper; someone who listens and assists. I hope clients can gain self-confidence, a clearer sense of self, validation, and acceptance of their feelings through therapy. I am here to help you work through past or present trauma and have the strength and confidence to get out of abusive relationships or overcome the effects of past abuse. Together we can find more effective coping mechanisms.

Hi there! I am a mental health counselor specializing in anxiety, depression, stress, gender and sexuality, relationship challenges, and life transitions. In my practicum and internship experiences, I worked with a variety of populations including adolescents, older adults, LGBTQ+ individuals, single mothers, university students, and more. Working with these groups, I've witnessed firsthand the resilience of clients in all manner of environments and situations. As a result, I have a passionate belief in the human ability to adapt and rise to overcome whatever obstacles stand in the way of living happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. I offer a person-centered counseling approach centering on client strengths, while also using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques to help clients meet their goals. Family systems and feminist theories also drive my work as a counselor, as they aid in understanding how each person functions in family and societal contexts. No matter your unique situation or background, my goal is to provide a nonjudgmental, supportive, and affirming counseling environment where you can feel safe to explore, make mistakes, heal, and grow. Ultimately my aim is to help you uncover your strengths, walking alongside you as you take steps toward self-discovery and change.

As a therapist, one of the essential parts of my work is to provide hope that there is an opportunity for change in everyone's life through positive relationships. I strive to build therapeutic relationships in a safe space for the clients I work with to promote growth and healing. Each child deserves the opportunity to process their challenging experiences in their own unique way, whether through play or verbalizing their experiences, in an empathetic and supportive space. I have learned through social work that each family and child have strengths that have helped them function and cope with their life experiences. I strive to identify these strengths and methods of coping for each family and child while also building on and teaching new skills to improve a child's functioning in their relationships and environments.

I firmly believes that you are the expert of your life and that as your therapist, I would offer an outside perspective to assist with reframing and providing interventions for in-between sessions to help you make the most of your therapeutic experience and achieve your goals. Everyone deserves to have opportunities to grow and be the best version of themselves, regardless of self-perceived or societal-imposed limitations. Talk therapy is highly effective, however I also like to emphasize research-based treatment modalities and provide tangible feedback and interventions that are realistically applicable to the individual. My training includes extensive knowledge in trauma-informed treatment, counseling individuals, couples, and families. I believe counseling is a process; an fluid exchange between life, emotions, and perception, and the deciphering of all these things. I am here to help you navigate through this process. I received my Masters in Social Work from Michigan State University, and have experience in trauma/abuse, cultural despondency, sports psychology, and depression/anxiety. I integrate diverse methodologies and techniques to offer a more personalized treatment toward desired goals.
