Do you find yourself asking "Is there something wrong with me?” or are you feeling like you have to "fix yourself?" Maybe you struggle to have healthy relationships or feel anxious in social situations. It can be really difficult to turn off the negative commentary in our minds. Many of my clients say that they struggle with harsh self-judgement and strongly fear that they "aren't enough." What might your life look like with less anxiety and fear and more focus on what means the most to you in your life and relationships with others? What if negative self-talk or the negativity coming from others just didn't bother you as much? I specialize in working with adults who experienced emotionally unavailable mothers and caregivers as a child. Through trauma informed therapy, we will focus on the impact of this experience through adolescence and into adulthood. I will help you drop the self judgement and anxiety. You will feel like a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders. If you have never been to therapy before, that's okay! If you have and still feel nervous, that's also totally understandable. My first goal is to help you feel comfortable in the process and then allow therapy to flow at a pace that works for you. I provide a lot of feedback to my clients and welcome feedback as well. Sometimes we laugh too!

My name is Karen Dorner and I have been working as a counselor for over 11 years and I am so lucky to continue to love what I do all these years. My core passion is helping others improve the quality of their lives by overcoming and working through their pain, anxieties, and traumas and by navigating life's challenges. I am blessed that my clients trust me to walk with them on their respective journeys towards finding balance, peace and connectedness as individuals and also within their families. I believe the process of therapy requires working collaboratively with clients and I am fully engaged in this process towards growth and change. I offer a safe supportive environment built on trust and mutual respect between me and my clients, and as we work through issues I help them find a voice for their emotions. Change and growth comes from awareness of thoughts and feelings and being able to adjust these in order to manage symptoms, and overcome emotional and psychological pain. I use a variety of theoretical approaches to help clients learn to alleviate and manage symptoms, to improve functioning, communication and understanding, and in general to feel better

Welcome! I specialize in supporting women through reproduction, pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood. As a clinician and mother myself, I understand the impact this transition has on mental health, relationships, myself, my body and career. I have firsthand experience understanding how difficult it is to make sense of this new identity and transition. I'm driven to help other mothers learn about themselves and understand their new roles. I want to be a beacon of hope, support, and healing. I approach therapy from an open and supportive way, and used evidence based techniques to support your current challenges. I use a combination of therapeutic techniques tailored to each client I work with, as each person's experience is unique. Some of these techniques include: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Strengths-Based Perspective, Family Systems Theory, Mindfulness, Stress Management, and Breath Work. If you're up to it, let's talk.

I believe that you can create the change and happiness that you want. I believe in creating a safe and healing space where you are able to explore what is brining you to therapy. I have extensive experience working with trauma survivors; and believe therapy is a space where you are able to decide how you want to be supported and when. More importantly, I am excited to serve you, as you create the changes in your life. Piece by piece, building the life that you deserve and want. My approach to therapy is strength based, with the overarching goal to help individuals, couples, and families gain awareness of the patterns in their life and how these patterns are influencing their current relationships with their partners, colleagues, family and friends. I want to add to your healthy coping skills and explore what works best for you. I am grateful that you are sharing this time in your journey with me. It has been an honor to connect with everyone that I have met. I look forward to meeting you and learning more about you.
