I work with clients teen through adult, who are looking for a supportive, encouraging therapeutic environment with a Christian world view. I work best with people who need help with depression, anxiety, OCD, and related concerns using mainly a cognitive behavioral approach. I also enjoy marriage and pre-marriage, working primarily with John Gottman's approach. I have been licensed since 1984. I have completed the Basic Training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). I have also received specialized training in treating OCD from the organization NOCD. This focuses on Exposure and Response Prevention. CBT helps people identify andchange the misbeliefs in their self talk that lead to unhealthy emotions and behavior. John Gottman's paradigm helps individuals and couples improve their ability to maintain marital friendship and manage their solvable and perpetual problems effectively. Accelerated Resolution Therapy is useful for trauma and PTSD. Because I am both a licensed psychologist and an ordained Lutheran pastor, I am able to move between the psychological and spiritual concerns clients may have, and, for those who prefer, can bring that Christian world view to bear on their concerns, problems, and issues.

I work collaboratively with individuals, couples, & families to help them cultivate a deeper self-awareness, discover new ways of expression, transform dysfunctional patterns, have more satisfying relationships and ensue a more meaningful life. Research has shown having purpose and meaning in life increases overall wellbeing and life satisfaction, improves mental and physical health, enhances resiliency and self-esteem, and decreases the chances of depression. My systemic, non-judgmental, holistic and integrative process integrates family structure, relationship dynamics, specific cognitive- behavioral, experiential, Internal family systems, EMDR and spirituality/mindfulness approaches. Words that embody my beliefs and values in the therapeutic relationship are acceptance, respect, empathy, perspective, challenge, meaning & change. My specialty includes, but is not limited to: couples communication, sexual & emotional intimacy, individual counseling, family life stage issues, developmental trauma, ambiguous grief & loss, cancer-related issues, PTSD, adjustment disorders, and sexual issues including sexual addictions and sexual trauma.

I work with adults and adolescents struggling with mood, anxiety, relationship issues, and major life transitions. I understand that pain has a way of separating us from ourselves and others, and I believe that we heal best within relationships. For that reason, I value the therapeutic relationship and strive to create a space where clients can feel truly understood. I offer all clients unconditional positive regard, and firmly believe that even in the most difficult times, all people are doing the best they can with the tools they have. I have specialized training in The Adaptive Internal Relational (AIR) Network Model, a neuroscience-based trauma training to address the ways that past stress impacts our current experience of ourselves. I also utilize CBT and solutions-focused approaches to support clients in setting their own goals and effectively working towards measurable relief. Sometimes taking the first step can be the hardest part. I hold deep respect and hopefulness for aIl of you as you consider starting or returning to therapy. If you choose to reach out, I will provide a compassionate space for you to explore your needs and address your pain so that you can begin enjoying life.
