Carl Rogers stated "People are just as wonderful as sunsets...I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” This encapsulates my approach to counseling. I am a PLPC approaching therapy from a person-centered perspective, meaning I want to cater to your needs through empathetic listening and understanding without judgment. I want to be a resource for you to grant extra support in your time of need and allow you to have a place to discuss topics which have not been explored in this manner previously. People would describe me as compassionate, nurturing, funny, authentic, and relatable. My interests revolve around gender identity, sexuality concerns, and psychotic symptoms. I have experience working with mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety, trauma, kids (I the most experience with children ages 6+), substance use concerns, and psychotic disorders (schizophrenia and psychosis).

Life is hard and unpredictable, and we all have struggles within ourselves, with relationships, and with directions in life. As a result, we may experience anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, or simply feeling lost. The recognition of our shared human condition is what motivated me to become a counselor. I bring a wealth of life and professional experiences to the counseling practice with a 20-year career in biotech and business. I believe my life experiences as a parent and professional afford me the broad perspectives to connect with clients and to facilitate personal growth. I'm an EMDR certified practitioner specialize in grief and trauma. Grief may associate with bereavement or non-death losses such as divorce & breakup. Grief & trauma are frequently linked, and I have success treating relational trauma & PTSD. Individual aside, I also specialize in helping couples with communication issues and rebuild common goals in life. I employ a holistic approach toward counseling, not only addressing the symptoms but also focusing on the relational networks. I recognize that the quality of our relationships influence how we see ourselves. Therefore, my goal is to provide an environment for clients to have meaningful engagement with oneself and with others, and to heal, grow, flourish.

I am accepting new clients. I've provided and supervised Mental Health (MH) and Substance Use counseling services for over 25 years in a variety of settings with all age groups. My experience and training has convinced me of several things - relationships define our sense of self; we look to our relationships for comfort and safety; Mental Wellness encompasses a Mind, Body and Spirit approach. I believe successful counseling is a commitment to create a place that allows each person to communicate their needs at a more genuine level and practice more effective ways of relating to others and taking an active role in one's health. I have a strengths-based, solution-focused CBT approach, geared to remove the barriers that interfere with your health and happiness. When addictive behaviors are identified, I employ a Stages of Change Model along with Motivational Interviewing to initiate change, improve brain health and address underlying trauma or unresolved MH concerns. When you choose to seek help, support will be provided to identify and learn new coping skills, develop insight into thoughts and behaviors that may contribute to current difficulties.
