Treatment with me will provide a balance of a non-judgmental, client-centered approach while also challenging individuals to reach their highest potential. I take a biopsychosocial approach to treatment and understand the importance of treating the whole individual rather than just a small part. I believe it is important to bring together complex themes within a person to help them better understand underlying issues that lead to depression and anxiety. My focus is personalized to your needs and know that every experience you have is a personal one and a journey worth taking.

Are you feeling like your life needs a change but you are not sure where to start? It seems, as life becomes more complex, more and more people are suffering from the devastating effects of stress, depression and anxiety and can benefit from the support and insight that therapy provides. I am a NC Licensed Psychologist working clinically with a wide range of ages and issues. I've worked in the field for 20 years, in schools, day treatment, and the private practice setting with adults, families, couples and children; focusing on adjustment difficulties, relationship problems, childhood abuse and maladaptive coping. I believe in compassionate care and taking time building a relationship based on trust and understanding. I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety and other mood disorders, life transitions, divorce, grief, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, trauma, abuse, LGBTQ+ issues, insomnia, and all personality disorders. I see adults and adolescents for individual psychotherapy that blends Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, and Psychodynamic approaches, geared toward what each person most needs. I enjoy working with Families and Couples and utilize the Gottman approach. I also work with children ages 4 & up, utilizing Play therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I bring an empathic, warm, and supportive approach to the therapeutic relationship. I have a passion for helping my clients achieve their goals and reach their full potential. I practice with the belief that we all have the strength and the abilities to live another day and face our difficulties head on. Life is full of difficult times, hardships, and unforseen events. However, it is our perspective and response to those events that shape the way that we think, feel, and live. I specialize in helping my clients navigate through life with strength, courage, and support. I work with people who are experiencing grief, anxiety, and depression. I also have a passion for working with couples to help them identify and communicate their needs and foster a healthier relationship that works for both individuals. I treat individuals, couples, and families to help make the best decisions concerning their lives. I help my clients explore and identify strengths that already resides within them and how they can navigate through life in a manner that address their goals effectively.

I believe therapy is about helping people realize the greatest amount of happiness in their lives. This may be learning how to manage one's depression and anxiety, a child or adolescent managing their opposition and defiance, or even some skills to make a speech or fall asleep. I also feel therapy is key in processing daily conflicts that affect our thoughts and feelings, but also learning how to make the best decisions that we value. I specialize in treating children and adolescents. This includes ages 5-18. While I work directly with most of my clients, I also focus on the needs of the parents, and at times only work with parents to provide effective parent coaching. I provide Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Treatment specialities include ADHD, opposition and defiance, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, depression, and psychosis. I also focus on working with parents on how to best help their children and families.

I believe that people have the skills, competencies, and abilities that will help them reduce the influence of problems in their lives. It is the therapist’s job to enable clients to thrive on their own. By learning how to self-evaluate and by developing your own abilities to meet difficult thought processes and situations with awareness, acceptance, and kindness, you will be able to make the changes that will allow you to live a satisfying and fulfilling life. My role is to assist you in reaching whatever goals you may have for yourself by providing nonjudgmental support and helping to facilitate your journey. I believe in using an individualist holistic approach with clients, utilizing an integrated approach to best meet the individual needs of my clients. This approach strives to balance mindful awareness, a genuine and empathic relationship with the client, and a collaborative effort. I work to provide a holistic, personal form of care that provides each client with the tools they need to overcome life's challenging moments. I take an integrative approach to helping others better understand how their patterns are impacting their lives and what options they have to do things differently. I utilize a creative, expressive approach to combine art and music into my practice to simulate new pathways in the brain and reprocess trauma. Implementing creativity is a critical component in the healing process and has particular power when working with children and adolescents. My experience and specialization include the assessment and treatment of children and families experiencing: the mental health effects of trauma, abuse, grief, depression, anxiety, relationship attachment disruption, mood disorders, and self-harm. I take an imaginative and individualistic approach to helping my clients establish adaptive coping skills. Specific techniques that I utilize in my practice include: specialized training in Play Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and EMDR Therapy. I enjoy working with all ages and have specific experience working with children. I work with clients to help promote and maintain balance in life when it may be particularly overwhelming with the help of my therapy pup, Molly.
