I believe we all have an innate wisdom and strength to grow from life's challenges and heal from painful experiences. The key lies in learning from our experiences, both past and present, and letting that acquired knowledge guide our futures. Therapy is your journey. It's my honor and privilege, as your therapist, to walk alongside you and help you process your story- creating room for insight, forgiveness, healing, and growth. I specialize in helping people build healthy relationships, overcome trauma, live well with chronic illnesses, and move through life transitions. Your challenges in life are as unique as you are. So we’ll work through them together at a pace that is comfortable for you. I utilize therapeutic techniques that build upon your strengths, challenge harmful thought patterns, offer validation and empathy around trauma, and help ground you in the safety of the present moment. It takes a strong person to recognize that something in their life doesn’t feel right and make the decision to reach out for help. I applaud you for your strength and commitment to your wellbeing. Remember, you are not alone. Feel free to reach out for a free phone consultation. We’ll talk a bit about what’s been going on in your life and how I can help.

Offering multiple discounted sliding scale slots to those who can't afford my rate. Educated, licensed, and in clinical practice since 2018 in the Bay Area, CA, I'm a licensed therapist (LMFTA) who recently moved my practice to Durham. Primarily trained in Gestalt therapy, as an integral therapist I also pull from IFS, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, and other somatic, experiential, mindfulness-based modalities. Anxiety, depression, chronic illness, infertility, loss, explorations of identity, communication issues, deepening intimacy, and building trust are a few of the challenges that bring clients to me. I'm passionate about supporting connection to core self and aliveness. Through interventions specific to your challenges, we'll invite new ways of being that are more in alignment with what you choose for yourself. For couples, we'll identify stuck patterns and the needs driving them, then practice new experiences of soothing, connection, and safety. I approach therapeutic work with collaborative, non-judgmental curiosity. I respect your unique subjectivity and encourage exploring the relationship between you and me as part of the therapeutic process.

Healing happens by moving through things, not by trying to go around them. My focus in the counseling work I do has long been in the fields of grief and substance use, especially in terms of where grief / loss has fed addictive behavior. It makes sense. Big feelings are uncomfortable, especially the ones we consider negative. It is understandable that we try to avoid those feelings but the reality is it doesn’t work. In my work with people I support them in gently and compassionately facing the things they don’t want to face, whether grief, addiction, anxiety, trauma or a more general sense of not being the person you want to be. We work together to identify patterns and beliefs that are not supporting you, then explore new possibilities. My approach is holistic, incorporating body/mind/spirit. I draw upon deep listening, skillful inquiry, reflection, and psychoeducation as called for. Modalities I work with include CBT, DBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and parts work. I believe deeply that healing is available to everyone, but it takes work. I provide a safe space for you to explore, vent, question, process, heal, and grow. If you have a sense I may be able to be of help to you, I offer a free 20-minute consultation for us to discern if we would be a good fit.

I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families on a range of things, from family and relationship issues to life transitions, depression and anxiety, grief, larger existential questions, and other things. A particular focus is helping people in crisis manage and make meaning from difficulties. My approach to therapy is supportive, relational, and client-centered, with a focus on how things manifest themselves in the here and now. I draw heavily on developmental psychology, mindfulness practices, and attachment theory. My background includes work in community mental health clinics, non-profits, psychiatric hospitals, and state programs, as well private practice. Life is probably challenging right now, and it has brought you to a point where you are unsure of what to do. I work individually with children, adolescents, and adults (4 years - 40 years) with slight family counseling (if needed). I have worked with children and adolescents dealing with emotional and behavioral problems at school or home, conflict with guardians/siblings, bullying, low self-esteem, abuse, and self-harm. I have worked with adults dealing with challenges at home or with family, life stressors, anxiety, depression, emotional challenges, and school or career challenges. It is my first priority to create a safe and non-judgmental space (whether virtually or in-person) for you to feel comfortable with me in each session. I want us to have a collaborative space for you to express your wants and needs comfortably. We all need someone in our corner to help us with these difficulties and that is perfectly okay! I like to meet you where you are to help you get to where you want to be. I will help you create healthy relationships and boundaries, set and achieve goals, and feel like you have control again.

Suffering is inevitable, and that really sucks. Sometimes you feel like nothing will ever get better, everything is your fault, and if you ever show your true self to the world, everyone will reject you. We wake up feeling like we can’t do this again, we’re completely unlovable, and everyone is always judging us. Deep down, you just want to be accepted for who you are. You are worthy of being seen and heard! Through therapy, you can stop numbing yourself and accept your true self. I am an LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC affirmative counselor serving the states of NC and SC through online therapy. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for anyone who wants to be their authentic self and connect with an authentic therapist. I strive to make help attainable to anyone who needs it by having evening hours and flexible payment options available. Asking for help may be very scary, but it is a huge first step; I know what it is like to be on the other side of the couch (or screen). My role as therapist is to act as your partner in treatment and help you work toward your goals. I work to support and guide you while we investigate thoughts, feelings and behaviors together that may be interfering with your success and happiness. Prior to my clinical career I spent over a decade as a behavioral neuroscientist in academic, pharmaceutical, and biotech settings. This work informs my therapeutic style. I have an eclectic theoretical orientation with a behavioral focus towards Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I utilize a psychodynamic lens to explore the origins of symptoms. We each come to this therapy with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and worldviews, and I strive to create an equitable and inclusive environment for all. I have extensive experience helping individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, self esteem, body dysmorphia, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship issues. I believe that a deeper understanding and acknowledgement of racial, ethnic, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, and other disparities should provide a critical framework and lens for the interactions we have both with one another and within the broader community. I invite you to reach out to see if we could be a good fit.

I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist, and I have expertise in the use of acceptance-based treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and the treatment of trauma. I see a wide variety of clients in my practice, including individuals struggling with symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD), depression, and anxiety disorders. I also work with survivors of trauma, including physical and sexual abuse and assault. I believe that effective treatment begins with a collaborative relationship with my clients. DBT is a form of CBT that focuses on teaching clients to better regulate their emotions. Our clients often talk about feeling like their emotions "run the show." Our treatment goals are often about helping clients to feel that they can control their emotions, rather than their emotions controlling them. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and joined Durham DBT after completing my clinical internship at Duke University Medical Center. I have extensive training in evidenced-based therapy and in clinical research.

I provide psychotherapy to adults and adolescents, and I also specialize in early childhood work, conducting parent therapy often combined with play therapy with children. My therapeutic approach is largely influenced by insight-oriented psychodynamic and systemic approaches. I'll be accepting new clients late December. Are you struggling with loss, unwanted changes, or stressful life transitions? Do you feel alone in your struggle, that others don't really understand? Whatever your distress, I can help you find ways to cope with overwhelming emotions and to move forward in your challenging world, discovering new possibilities for yourself. My expertise is in grief due to death, but I have over 20 years therapy experience with loss and transitions of all kinds: chronic and terminal illness, end of life issues, caregiving, troubling relationships, job loss and changes, life passages, and identity changes. I have extensive experience in complicated grief that can follow the loss of a child, multiple losses, or loss due to suicide/violence, and am trained in EMDR to relieve traumatic memories. I also specialize in loss that is complicated by secrets or troubled relationships, working to find a new path toward acceptance and peace. One-hour sessions may include writing, creative visualization & mindfulness to explore beyond the limits of talk therapy. Many clients are surprised by the powerful insights that arise from these creative explorations. While I do not provide counseling from a particular religious viewpoint, I welcome your beliefs or questionings as part of our work together.

I am passionate about supporting people who range in age from early childhood through adulthood. My background in child psychology informs my work with adults as well, as I am always considering how a person's developmental path and early relationships have shaped them. In therapy, I strive to bring empathy, warmth, and humor to the process. You can expect me to be curious about and accepting of your experiences as I support you in actively working towards change. I am sensitive to issues related to disability, immigration, and non-traditional forms of family building, and welcome all to my practice. I provide evidence-based therapy for children, teens, adults and families who seek support around depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, sleep concerns, parenting, infertility, pregnancy and the postpartum period. I also provide third party reproduction evaluations & consultations and immigration evaluations. I help clients to understand the underlying reasons for their behavior, process past and present experiences, and learn how to better manage distress. Therapy will always involve spending the time to build a trusting relationship. We will identify areas of strength and concern, learn new skills, deepen understanding of self & others, and build resilience.
