As a therapist with over 20 years experience, I believe in straight forward, compassionate, nonjudgemental therapy. I am currently licensed in three states (NC, SC, MI) and trained in a variety of treatment modalities. My history includes working with individuals who struggle with addictive behaviors, mood shifts, grief & loss, trauma, substance use disorders (SUD) and mental health (MH) challenges - both in residential programs and private practice. I also work with professional monitoring agencies. If you would like more details, please visit my website at 'champagnecounseling.com' It takes a great deal of courage to reach out for support. Change is difficult. I have been fortunate to have amazing, patient teachers and am grateful to share what I have learned about acceptance, resilience and empowerment. It would be a privilege traveling with you on your healing journey. My goal for the therapeutic relationship is to provide a safe environment that empowers you to successfully address your concerns and improve your quality of life.

At some point in life, we all need to reach out for help. Whether we find ourselves repeating old patterns, struggling to create the life and relationships we want for ourselves, or overwhelmed by our emotional pain, there comes a time when we realize we need extra support. I am here to create a space where you are truly heard, seen, and accepted. I will sit with you in those dark and confusing places. I will help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the roots of your struggles. Through this, you will learn new ways of relating to yourself, experiences, and the people around you. And when you are ready, I will assist you in making the changes you wish to make. The journey toward healing begins the moment we reach out for help and I would be honored to support you in taking that first step.

Each person's therapeutic journey is unique. The biggest step is the willingness and desire to seek help, especially when things are difficult. Openness and engagement are the pillars of a strong therapeutic relationship. My clinical practice focuses on the needs of the client. Allowing your needs to guide the treatment process. Determining which pathways work best for your needs. My trauma specialized background allows me to engage individuals and families in counseling that can mitigate the long term impacts of trauma. My experience with addictions also lends itself to helping clients to overcome the disease of addiction. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families.

I've always wanted to incorporate animals into therapeutic activities. My family has 4 dogs and 2 cats, all rescues and I’ve volunteered with APS of Durham for over 10 years. Animal assisted therapy is generally done with the therapist's personal animal. My pre-Covid sessions were typically in home with you and your pet, developing more connection and emotional support. I’ve had to move to telehealth and with a small practice am limited in taking on many new clients. I am able to schedule weekdays or evenings. I try to keep personal life balance but also be available and flexible to support you when you need. View 10 Photos Whether you have a life challenge or stress and issues getting in the way, we can work through it together. Sometimes, seeking help is the best way to put things into perspective. I've counseled parents, adolescents and adults on issues around LGBTQ, medical/chronic health and developmental disability, career and other life transitions. After working in medical rehab, I completed my masters in Rehabilitation Counseling focusing on accommodations and independence for individuals with disabilities. My interest in mental health, I try to support you how you need. I'm completing my Animal-assisted Psychotherapy certification and sharing my connection to animals with clients.

I am currently only taking clients for Gottman Method therapy which is private pay only. I have completed Gottman Level 3 training. I have a waitlist for all other clients. However, I do recommend the therapists at Abide Inclusive Therapy who currently have openings. You can schedule a consult for members of the group through me. We can find ways for you to feel more confident and energized in business, academic and social situations. We can identify your goals and make a plan to get there. We are a small group of clinicians serving individuals, couples, and families in Maryland and North Carolina. The members of Abide Inclusive have received specialized training in working with the LGBTQ+ community, trauma, depression and anxiety. We also work with couples and families who are struggling to communicate or trying to find ways to assure their connection remains strong. Clients who most frequently report feeling connected with us are professionals or those in the university environment who are looking for someone to partner with them on their goals. We are very passionate about working with individuals and couples who are in the LGBTQ+ community. If this may work for you, please reach out for a free consult.
