Using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I specialize in helping people with anxiety and related problems, including depression, stress, trauma, cancer survivorship, adult ADHD, chronic pain, insomnia, and behavioral medicine. CBT is a very effective way to help you do this. CBT helps you change thoughts, rather than situations, in order to change painful emotions and unhelpful behaviors. It is brief, structured, and builds on the idea that emotional and behavioral reactions are learned. The goal of therapy is helping you unlearn unhelpful reactions and learn new, helpful ways of reacting. More than "talk therapy," CBT leads to long term results. There are many reasons to come to therapy. I specialize in issues with mood and trauma. Issues with mood can result in feelings of anxiety, depression, low mood or mood swings. There are different ways that this can play out in life. You may be trying to manage deep painful emotions, outbursts of anger, feelings of emptiness, low motivation, lethargy or restless energy. Mood issues may result in difficulty making decisions, issues relating to others, feeling dependent on others, having difficulty saying no or asking for help, perfectionism, rigidity or black and white thinking. My style is warm and non-judgmental, my approach is flexible, individually tailored, and informed by psychodynamic theories, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDRia and Somatic Experiencing. I have a history of helping clients get past major “stuck points” and have been able to help clients who have had difficulty feeling helped in the past.
