When making changes, we have to look further than what’s visible on the surface. I work by helping you better understand how your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions, along with external forces, impact your day-to-day life. My style is warm, interactive, and empowering. Empathy is essential to our sessions, and I teach patients to treat themselves compassionately. I treat individuals with anxiety, low self-esteem, ADHD, relationship issues, trauma, and depression. I work with couples to learn more conscious, intimate, and attuned ways of being in partnership and better understand their conflicts. Examining our relationships, belief systems, past experiences, and behaviors clarifies where certain thoughts and behavior patterns come from. We can make different choices when we have a deeper understanding of ourselves. Using a psychodynamic lens, I help individuals and couples to create deep, meaningful changes within themselves and their lives. Curiosity is our greatest tool in untangling old storylines and changing the harmful beliefs we hold. I believe that growth, change, and healing can involve joy, empathy, and compassion. Let’s work together to create meaningful, lasting change in your life.

My practice incorporates and integrates knowledge and techniques from various therapeutic modalities. I can conduct therapy sessions in English, Spanish or Portuguese. I have specific training in EMDR and Sensorimotor (somatic) Psychotherapy. I am a practicing psychedelic-assisted therapist and have trained extensively with ketamine. I offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy sessions in partnership with Journey Clinical. I offer psychedelic prep and integration sessions that are guided by my familiarity with Traditional Amazonian Plant Medicines. In September 2022 I will train in psilocybin assisted therapy in Amsterdam. My style boils down to my particular brand of "spiritual" counseling...meaning that my understanding of "mental" health has much to do with the belief that we are primarily spiritual beings in human form and that spiritual "injuries" (I.e traumas) need to be understood/treated within this framework. Please research "transpersonal psychology" to learn more... I can help with relieving physical ailments deriving from psycho-physiological causes (headaches, back pain, digestive problems, sleep difficulties, etc). I also have extensive experience working with traditional plant medicines and am seeing a lot of clients who wish to explore psychedelic medicines and/or integration work.

Are you constantly “on”, saying yes to everything and everyone? Do you feel like despite how many accomplishments you achieve, it will never be enough? Do you sense the need to slow down, say no, set boundaries, but often doubt yourself? Do you appear calm outside, but inside there's a storm of anxiety and insecurity? Does this disconnect you from yourself and others? Are you often dismissive of these behaviors, thinking “They can’t be that bad; they’ve gotten me this far”? And it’s true, they’re not bad. You had to push past your needs and adapt to the demands of your childhood. Despite the trauma, you’ve survived and you want to finally prioritize yourself. There’s strength and resilience in how you’ve overcome but, you’re ready to feel more connected to yourself. I’m so glad you’re here. I help young people acknowledge coping patterns from trauma and find more supportive ways to deeply connect with themselves and others, while prioritizing their energetic and emotional needs. We are partners on this journey, and I look forward to walking with you on your path of healing and self-discovery.

Hi my name is Shula Melamed I am a Relationship and Wellbeing Coach. My focus is on helping people build better relationships - with others and most importantly, themselves. Individuals and couples come to me when they are looking to not only improve their interactions with others but to also understand how and where they might be holding themselves back from living bigger and bolder lives. I have an MA in Psychology from The New School University and an MPH in Social Medical Sciences - Sexuality and Health from Columbia University. I have been working with individuals, couples and groups since 2013. We are rarely given any kind of formal relational education (and sex education is a whole other part of this story!) but rather a relational socialization. I believe that through self awareness and skill building we can all have the types of relationships we long for. I utilize Psychoeducation, CBT and Motivational Interviewing. My style is engaging but as a coach it is my role to reflect what I am hearing my clients say. It is from listening that I can fulfill the client centered work we will be doing. I create a non judgmental, open and exploratory space for my clients. Reach out for a consultation - I look forward to hearing how I can help you build better relationships!

What would it be like to see yourself more clearly? If you struggle with old emotional patterns, it may show up now in all kinds of ways! You may be feeling like you're not "enough," finding it difficult to make room for life outside of you being the overachiever, or just not knowing who you actually are. These conflicts may also show up in your body, as well as in the way you treat it. Maybe you have headaches, chronic lower back pain, difficulty nourishing yourself, or have a fraught relationship with how you look. We collaborate and figure out how to make you an active participant in your healing and get you back in your life. View 4 Photos Couple’s therapy is becoming more of a “first resort” than a “last resort.” If you are experiencing early relationship conflict after just moving into together or meeting each other’s families, we work to help identify and articulate the emotions underneath those conflicts (EFT- Emotionally Focused Therapy) and learn how to show up better for each other. I strongly believe in the healing power of in-person therapy. Before I became a therapist, I was a Pilates instructor for close to 20 years. The body tells a story, and therapy gives us the tools to be able to articulate that story. I’d love to meet you in person and hear your story. I help adults find a better life balance, reduce stress and incorporate more happiness and mindfulness into their life. I also support parents to better understand and manage challenging child and adolescent behaviors. I have 20 years of experience working with individuals and families as a therapist.
