Today was the worst day of your life. You feel like you want to blow things up and then to put the icing on the cake your belt loop hooked on the door handle and ripped your favorite pair of jeans. You're fed up and don’t have the best set of coping skills. You turn to substances or impulsive behavior. You’re sick and tired of feeling like you don’t have a safe place to be yourself and work through your crap. I see you and I have been there too. It’s scary to think about what life could look like once you find a new way to process the things you’re dealing with in a healthy and safe way. "There's no shame in being afraid. Hell, we're all afraid. What you gotta do is figure out what you're afraid of because when you put a face on it, you can beat it. Better yet, you can use it.” I am a recent graduate from Bellevue University. I have worked in psychiatric mental institutions for children, and in rehabs where I have gained four years of experience with many different types of teens and young adults with various mental health and substance abuse challenges. You can learn more about me at Unityyfs.com!

“A step may be the beginning of a great journey” In life the first step is always the most difficult for people, the same can be said about therapy. Introducing oneself to someone they just met, trusting a stranger with their thoughts and feelings can be a truly intimidating experience. The purpose of therapy is to provide a safe space for a person to take the first step on the journey of healing and the personal growth that follows. Therapy is fluidic and follows an integrative, and adaptable path determined by the client’s goals. You name your goals, and I will be glad to assist you in achieving them. An integrative approach is what seems to work the best as each client has uniquely different situations for coming to therapy. For some people just having the room to talk, relax, breathe, and venting is enough. For others, a journal to jot down their thoughts becomes a tool as well. An integrative approach is what seems to work the best as each client has uniquely different situations for coming to therapy. I believe humor belongs in therapy, laughter can open the door to calming anxiety and nervousness. So come on in and let’s take this important first step together.. Live a little, laugh more, and find your wings in life.

I am flexible to accommodate most schedules. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy; at its core, therapy is about building a relationship in which we feel safe to embrace and become our authentic selves. I enjoy working with people to explore life experiences and identify past trauma that may be preventing them from living their best life. I am passionate about issues surrounding individual freedoms, specifically relating to gender/sexuality. As a queer professional, I enjoy working with clients who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or who practice nontraditional relationships, including polyamory and kink. I have experience working with complex trauma, shame, depression, suicidality, self-harm, anxiety, and grief. I am happy to work with my clients individually, as couples, as families, or in groups. I have training in EMDR, TF-CBT, Trauma & Attachment, CAMS, ACT for PTSD, DBT, and Grief Counseling. We are all works in progress and benefit from support and compassion along the way. Therapy works when you feel safe, heard, and supported. I liken therapy to moving a refrigerator - could I do it alone? Sure, but it would be really freakin' hard. Having someone help carry the load, maneuver around obstacles, and set it into place, would make it much easier.

My clinical area of interest and training is in behavioral pediatric counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy. I use my training to promote positive mental and behavioral health to children and their families. I use skills from a treatment approach called Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to teach caregivers positive parenting and relationship-enhancing skills. PCIT teaches behavior management strategies to manage disruptive behavior, aggression, and promote adhering to instructions and family home rules. Other mental and behavioral concerns I assist children, youth, and families with include: academic problems, adjustments (death, divorce), aggression, ADHD, autism, child abuse/neglect/trauma, depression, developmental disabilities, fears & anxieties, feeding problems/picky eaters, oppositional behavior, pain management, parent training, sibling rivalry, sleep concerns, stress, thumb sucking, & toilet training. Additionally, I have completed training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), an empirically-supported treatment program to assist children and their non-offending parents during the process of healing from child abuse, neglect, and trauma. I use these skills to assist individuals through traumatic experiences they've encountered.

My "ideal client" is one who perceives me as his/her ideal therapist. If I am best fit for this client, then I am most useful to this client, and I serve my purpose and this is my ideal client. Together he or she and I would find solutions to the problems. Mental health is not an exact science. Psychotherapy or counseling is an art and science. I believe an effective clinician uses experiential and experimental data. The symptoms, or issues, build up diagnoses whereby we generate treatment options. A clinician tries whatever treatment options within ethical bounds to reach the client/s wellness goals. I believe my multiple specialties speak to my professionalism which places me in an optimal helping position: approved supervisor of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; served on the credentialing board of Nebraska Mental Health Practice Board; trained mediator; legislative chair of Nebraska AMFT, and thrice elected as president. At the intake I will tell my clients my advantage over you is not the diplomas on my wall but that I have listened to so many stories, I can share with you what works and what does not work. I engage so that they will come back.
