When challenged with keeping up with it all, it is not uncommon to lose sight of who we really are, or what we really want. Through a collaborative and engaging therapeutic relationship where your unique interests are prioritized, perspective & balance can be restored. My niche is working with college students and young professionals, who are motivated to get the most out of life by discovering their authentic selves, defining a road map for future, and developing skills to cope with stress & adversity. Although my work is grounded in evidence-based practices, I have been told that sessions feel like talking to a wise friend. Respecting where you are today, I aim to listen attentively to what is working for you and where you feel there is room for growth, and assist you in taking steps to meet your desired goals. You will find sessions introduce practical strategies and skills in a relaxed versus formal manner, with the hope you will take away something useful from each meeting. I provide traditional psychotherapy as well as outdoor walking sessions for those seeking an active approach to mental health care. I also provide timely consultations (scheduled within one week) for those needing support with a specific, time sensitive issue (not a crisis, rather an important decision/dilemma etc.). I look forward to talking with you soon.

I believe it is my calling to help my clients get to a better place and live happier, more fulfilled lives. I hope to help you see your worth, understand your past and how you got to the present, and explore the possibilities for your future! I use a psychoanalytic approach which simply means that I will listen to your story from childhood up through adulthood to get an understanding of what has happened over your life that may be manifesting today and causing challenges for you. Then we do the work to heal the parts that maybe aren't so whole right now. The individuals and families I have worked with over my career have reintroduced me to myself as I share some of the same experiences they have. I particularly love working with young adult women, black men and survivors of intimate partner violence. I also specialize in helping those with family conflict and relationship challenges. I can help you process through what has happened to you or what you are currently feeling--at your pace. As a therapist that has a therapist, I understand that finding a good fit is a process. If you are ready to take the first step, please reach out to me and let's see if we may work well together.

My name is Brittain and I love helping people accomplish goals and live more authentically. Feeling alone in our struggles can be hard, so my goal is to help you feel heard and valued as we work together to identify and overcome the obstacles you are facing and move toward a more fulfilled life. I believe each person and their struggles are unique, so I approach the counseling process to meet you right where you are, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. While I believe true healing is found through a relationship with Jesus Christ, I respect that not everyone shares this belief and will integrate it only upon request. I work with individuals facing anxiety and depression, negative self-talk, grief and loss, relationship issues, and other concerns. I focus primarily on obsessive thinking and anxiety, including religiously themed concerns. I also work with men and women facing difficulty in relationships, and young adults struggling with negative thoughts and feelings. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope when you are ready you will take this next step toward a better way of life. Contact me for an initial consultation and let's get to work together. Waiting can be difficult, so I make it a priority to be available to meet together within one week. I look forward to hearing from you.

I believe we all find ourselves stuck at different times of our lives. In close relationships where we hope to feel accepted and safe, many of us find ourselves feeling hurt and alone. Given our brains natural movement towards protection, we can easily become guarded and show less and less of our true self to the person we care about. As a result, relationships can become increasingly stuck in destructive communication patterns. Within the context of a safe therapeutic relationship, we can understand emotional and relational patterns that keep stuck. Using new advances in Attachment Theory and Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy, I help couples get to the roots of their conflict, navigating around defensiveness to develop true understanding and connection. As we learn to live more freely as our authentic self, we both increase opportunity to be known and deepen our capacity for closer relationships. I have helped clients struggling with depression, anxiety, anger management, relational difficulties, life transitions, trauma from abuse, and parenting struggles. My passion for this work is partly fueled by my own history of challenges, as well as my experience as a husband, father, and foster parent. Call me for an initial session or a phone consult.

I believe that each person has the capacity to create and embody the change that they seek for themselves, and by extension, to improve the quality of the relationships they have with those around them. In order to awaken this capacity, I approach the counseling relationship with the intention to understand the unique story of each person I meet – the challenges they have encountered in the past and present, as well as the personal strengths and resources they already possess to overcome these challenges and experience new growth. I have completed specialized training in adoption-competent mental health services, animal-assisted psychotherapy, and traumatic stress. I have particular interest in providing hope for healing after childhood adversity and adverse religious experiences. Working alongside my therapy dog Tee, I serve individuals who are experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship conflicts.

I specialize in treating those with various mental disorders and behavioral issues to include: ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, and Personality Disorders. I utilize detailed Psychological Assessment, and empirically supported treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. I am certified as a DBT practitioner and a life coach. Lastly, I integrate a holistic mindset into my practice, where emphasis is placed on gut/brain health, sleep quality, lifestyle, and diet. Typical sessions with me will involve an assessment of your life style (diet, sleep quality, social life, and fitness level), followed by going over your problem(s) in detail so I can have a good grasp at the issue(s), followed up with a personality assessment to look for any areas of your personality that may be compromised. After that we create a plan! I've struggled in my life and know what it's like to feel defeated. I went from being a divorced homeless Veteran, suffering from a Brain Injury (TBI), PTSD, and Depression to a happily remarried father of four, who lives a rewarding and fulfilled life. What do I attribute to this change? Excellent therapy. Now it's my turn to help others.
