Asking for help is sometimes difficult, and also powerful. Daily struggles with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts can become overwhelming. Complex trauma, substance use, eating disorders, unhealthy relationships, are among a few that can also keep us from our authentic self. In order to survive through all of this and keep going, it is common to adapt in ways that end up no longer working. We need help. That help comes from recognizing the gifts we have in ourselves and getting the gifts of others. My gift is to help others with aligning the head and the heart while healing to recognize authentic self. I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, and Somatic Experiencing, as well as DBT skills trained. I have worked for several years in residential treatment in which my focuses were in substance use, trauma, co-occurring disorders, and eating disorders. I believe in the 12-steps focus on recovery, but also believe in finding a path that works for you. I believe in focusing on the strengths of a client, while also using a gentle approach to be direct and honest. If you are still reading, thank you. I would like to walk with you on your journey to healing. If you believe I may be able to help, please contact me at: 615-290-2775 or alisha@aligncounseling.com

I believe every human being deserves to be seen and live in a way that brings about peace, self-love, and a positive self-image. This can be difficult when immersed in rigid cultural systems, exposed to trauma, and dealing with intense emotional pain. Extrinsic influences about gender, ethnicity, nationality, physical and mental capabilities, sexuality (and much more) can leave so many people questioning their own existence. In the face of this, daily living itself can feel like a challenge and leave a person feeling isolated and alone. My hope is to provide you with the support we all deserve in order to live as fully as possible. View 16 Photos Knowing your worth is the backbone of living a healthy, authentic, and fulfilling life. I strive to support you in integrating all aspects of your identity in a way that is in alignment with your personal values so that you can explore what brings you joy, define what success means to you, and create an all encompassing definition for health. I hope that whatever brings you to this page, you feel a sense of safety. I believe we all have an inherent birthright to exist in peace and that is what I strive to support my clients in achieving in their minds, hearts, and ultimately their lives.

My passion is to work with children & adolescents who struggle with behavioral issues, family conflict, life changes, self-esteem, and anxiety. However, I do enjoy working with young adults as well! (: My ultimate goal is to help our youth understand that it's okay not to be okay and to know that it's okay to seek help! As Robert Kiyosaki once said, “One of the biggest defects in life is in the inability to ask for help." Therefore, it is my belief that in order for a healthier future to occur, we must start by supporting the mental health of children and adolescents, as they are the future generations to come. Often times when we feel stuck in our lives, it is because we are noticing a conflict in our internal world. Part of us feels one way, while another part feels very differently. It is my experience that we all enter this world with the capacity to feel grounded and at peace, yet as we experience the hardships of life, we lose connection with that inner safety. Instead we begin to experience the burdens of shame, grief and/or loneliness; and parts of us take on roles that may show up as anxiety, perfectionism, sadness, self-criticism, dissociation - or any other symptom, thought, or emotion that you find yourself struggling with. View 6 Photos I'm level 2 IFS trained and am passionate about using "parts work" to help clients get to know their internal world on a whole new level, ultimately releasing those burdens. This is how I can help you get back to yourSelf; a place where you are living your life led by curiosity, compassion, clarity, calmness, courage, confidence, creativity, & connectedness. In getting to know ourSelves and by fostering compassion for the complexities that come with being human, we are better able to offer this same compassion to ourSelves and to others. In doing so, we are able to live our lives more fully and authentically. Contact me today if you’re ready to begin this journey of getting back to yourSelf.

Do you ever have that feeling that there’s some part of yourself or your story that you have to hide, and if people could see the real you, they wouldn’t accept you? It's easy to believe that some parts of you are acceptable, but others aren’t. In therapy, my goal is to create a place that’s safe enough for you to share those parts, in your own time. And then something magical can happen: you can discover that you’re actually acceptable and lovable exactly as you are. To paraphrase Carl Rogers, you will find the curious paradox that acceptance creates change. Often people with these feelings have had some difficulties in life or in the family in which they grew up, including childhood abuse or lack of nurture, creating anxiety, depression, PTSD and more. I utilize a variety of techniques to bring symptom relief including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and emotion- and body-based therapies. If this sounds like what you’re looking for, I hope you’ll reach out, and I look forward to walking with you through the process of acceptance and real change. You may have questions about therapy or any part of the process, and if you contact me, I'd be happy to help answer them. Please visit www.courtneyhoward.net for more information.

Depression, anxiety, divorce/relationship issues, trauma, family crisis, & many other issues can slowly chip away at our self-worth, our sense of belonging, our hope. Do you seek a true, raw connection with yourself & others? Are you tired of fighting the "uphill battle" & seek peace in your life? I have no magic wand. I cannot make troubles disappear. I can, however, walk with you & give you the tools to find inner peace & love in the midst of chaos. I have advanced training in EMDR therapy, which focuses on trauma work.I am also trained in Relational Life Therapy, a couples' therapy created by Terry Real (author of "The New Rules of Marriage"). I often work with clients dealing with loss, such as death of a loved one, divorce, or other major life transition. I worked for 10+ years with children doing individual & family counseling and multi-systemic therapy.
