In our time together, we will explore how the challenges you've faced in the past, and those you're facing in the present, affect the ways in which you feel, think, and act. Together, we will identify patterns that adversely affect your progress, and identify tangible strategies for change. And we will find ways to enhance your connections to others and understanding of yourself so that the changes you make will last. I believe you will experience me as genuine, curious, and direct. We will likely laugh a lot as we challenge old assumptions and create new ways of approaching problems. That said, the work we do in therapy is serious; in our work, you will experience acceptance and connection that will make it easier to talk about hard things. It's essential that you find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and understood. I'm happy to provide a free 10 minute consultation where we can get to know one another and decide whether we would be a good fit therapeutically.

I hope to partner with you! I will offer clinical expertise in perinatal issues, trauma, and attachment. I lean into my own lived perinatal experiences within the client-therapist dynamic. What I’ve found matters most is finding someone to walk alongside you. We are wired for connection, and despite what the movies portray the fertility, pregnancy and/or postpartum experience to look like, it can be a time where you feel cut off from others and yourself in unexpected ways. Previous pregnancy loss and miscarriage can also impact an experience we’ve longed for. I am trained in EMDR, CPT, and Seleni Institute Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders, Perinatal Loss and Grief, and Maternal Mental Health Intensive for Young Parents. I value sharing information with clients so my approach includes psychoeducation and collaboration with clients and their unique support networks. I use talk therapy, CBT + community building. It is not a requirement for a therapist to have lived experience and certainly every experience is unique, but that “I see you” in perinatal focused therapy truly hits differently when your therapist has walked through those dark, lonely, scary places of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting too.

Marcelle Abusalbi is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. She is passionate about helping adolescents and adults address both past and present challenges. Marcelle specializes in anxiety, depression, bipolar, ADHD, PTSD, and trauma. Marcelle completed her Master of Arts in Counseling at St. Edward’s University. Her approach is based on cognitive behavioral therapy, which ties emotions and behaviors to specific "automatic thoughts." These thoughts can be subconscious and are learned over time from our experiences. A key to counseling is uncovering these cognitive distortions, recognizing how they affect our reactions, and replacing them with more adaptive ones. Recognizing that seeking therapy can be intimidating, Marcelle uses a warm and inviting approach, believing above all in creating a safe and non-judgmental space. Her approach is relaxed and supportive, and her goal is to work with clients to develop self-awareness and build coping skills.
