I specialize in working with adults with eating disorders and disordered eating, and the conditions that often co-occur with eating concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and trauma. I also have an extensive research background in chronic fatigue syndrome (sometimes called myalgic encephalomyelitis or ME/CFS) and have worked on multiple NIH-funded studies; I am aware of the unique challenges faced by individuals living with ME/CFS and other poorly understood, stigmatized health conditions. I provide evidence-based interventions that are tailored to my client’s needs and progress. I have experience working in eating disorder residential/day programs, university counseling centers, and community mental health centers. As a community psychologist, I also have a strong commitment to social justice, to working with those whose identities have been marginalized, and to understanding the impact of cultural/social context on mental health. I believe that establishing a collaborative, safe, and trusting relationship is the foundation of any effective therapy. In therapy, clients will learn new skills and strategies for coping with life’s demands and will gain insight into what contributes to and maintains unfulfilling behavioral, emotional, and relational patterns.

Do people ask how you are doing and the answer is always “fine” or “ok”? Or maybe you avoid letting yourself feel uncomfortable emotions? Possibly putting off facing them until you feel more ready, but that day never comes? Depression, anxiety, and trauma can do that to us. They can change our trajectory in life, veer us off course of who we were meant to be. Shadows from the past can loom over us forever. If this is your experience, my sincerest hope is one day you will feel ready to no longer allow your past to place limits on the future. With my 14 years of experience in the field, my goal is to promote a safe space for us to fully understand your experience. Using a nonjudgmental approach, we will explore the ways you want to feel, what's standing in the way, and how to get you where you want to be. It takes courage to choose you, to take the time and do the work to invest in yourself. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. It is brave to share yourself with a stranger. I'd be honored for the opportunity to share your journey and together figure out how to get closer to the life you were meant to live. A life with purpose and fulfillment. You deserve a sense of passion and a life of worth. You deserve a life without limits.

I work from a wellness model and believe anyone can benefit from counseling. I work to provide a safe environment where my clients feel supported and heard. Counseling has not, and still isn't always accepted in many communities, so making the decision to come to counseling with the fear of "el que diran" (what will they say) can be difficult. I will do my best to guide you in your journey to understand how therapy can help you. I also have over 9 years of experience working with individuals who have been affected by cancer, and know it can be difficult to find someone to talk to who is knowledgeable on the topic. I am a certified navigator-breast advocate. My specialties are working with clients on end of life issues, depression, adjustment due to loss, grief, anxiety, working with burnout and compassion fatigue, healthcare professionals, 1st generation college students, and Spanish speaking populations. I understand that finding the right therapist can be a challenging process, but I hope that you will reach out and schedule a phone consultation. I look forward to working with you.

I work with my clients to ensure that the barriers to living a meaningful life are clearly identified in a way that resonates with them, while working to build a secure therapeutic relationship. I attend closely to individual, contextual and multicultural factors when considering how best to approach treatment. I specialize in providing counseling for racial identity and cultural issues (specifically in first and second Asian Americans/immigrants), navigating significant life transitions, and grief from a cultural perspective. My goal is to help you live a life that aligns with your values and move from a space of surviving to thriving. At the core of my approach is the belief that the therapeutic relationship is the strongest force in inciting growth. A sense of authentic trust and comfort is instrumental to begin doing "the work" and creating lasting change. I am drawn towards a range of interventions that acknowledge the unique identities and environmental factors that shape the lives of the clients that I work with. This includes drawing from multicultural counseling theory, feminist theory, family systems, internal family systems, existentialism, and empowerment theory. The stigma towards seeking mental health care is real. It is important to me that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable sharing your inner world with. If you feel like we could be a good fit, I welcome you to reach out for an intake appointment. I look forward to working alongside you!

progressive, tattooed, inclusive, cursing, non-religious, and affirming. i super love working with people who have lost the plot, are transitioning to the next stages, and folks that just feel a bit lost right now. we are utterly disconnected from our own humanity in this culture but i believe that we can make meaningful changes. i have an eclectic approach, which is a fancy way of saying that i don't have just one modality that i rely on, but tend to pull heavily from positive psychology, where we will focus on what you are already getting right while looking toward your values to make those meaningful changes. Hello You! Welcome to this brief introduction about me and the modality I use. My hope in working with you, is to help you liberate extreme emotions, restore trust in yourself to live in balance, harmony, and wholeness. So many of us are living in overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and relationship conflicts; it is time to become emotionally whole and connected to others. This is an inside job, and it is worth it to be reflective, to see why you do the things you do and feel the emotions you do. The work is hard and ultimately worth, you are worthy of this journey to a fuller connection to your true self and those you love. I use the Internal Family Systems framework for individual and couples telehealth psychotherapy. This framework is strengths based. The work combines experiential, somatic, and talk therapy. It is far more nuanced than this last sentence, please connect with me for more information. I have been where you are, searching for a way forward, with self-help sites (books) endlessly researching. It is exhausting. I am very grateful I connected to this modality and a wonderful therapist. There is HOPE! It is a lot of effort so I bid you success in finding the right therapist. Peace, Kathy
