Most of my life I have been drawn to the mysteries of the water. Water can be calm one moment, but the smallest disturbance, a pebble falling, a slight wind blowing, the changes in the tide, will cause waves to form. Even when seemingly calm, there can be unseen turbulence beneath the surface. Mental health similar to characteristic of water. The slightest change in life can cause uncertainty, anxiety, depression, and more. Trauma for mental health can be like a major hurricane or tsunami: detrimental. A person can feel like they are drowning with no help in sight. Therapy is not always easy and can be uncomfortable. I promise to meet you where you are and be there for you every step of your journey. My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life. As a Licensed Resident in Counseling, I am working under the supervision of Paula Tisdale, LPC.

It is my desire to assist and guide the individual that is ready to work on their healing process and move forward in life. I work best with the individual that is ready to say "I am vulnerable, but I am ready to do the work so I can live my best life." This may be a child or teenager struggling with depression, anxiety, or self-harm or the single mother trying to keep it together, the women who just got divorced and is trying to move forward, the African American male/female that simply feels misunderstood, the person of faith that's struggling, or the one who has challenges within their relationships. My promise to you as a clinician is to be "present", to "listen", to "encourage and be nonjudgmental." I recognize that you have a right to make choices. My goal is to help you to identify the issue, process how it may be hindering you and map out a plan for how you can move forward with a "new mind, so you can enjoy a full life." If you are someone that is ready and looking for guidance, honesty, and wants a better sense of self, then reach out and let's get started on this journey. Healing doesn't happen overnight, it is a process. I love what I do, it is not a job, but a calling, my purpose in life. Contact me and let's get started. You deserve to live a full life.

We often look for answers outside of ourselves because of the chaos we carry within. In therapy, you can begin to peel back the layers that are keeping you stuck in order to more freely move towards your personal values and goals. I place an emphasis on human resilience in overcoming challenges and trauma, recognizing that you carry within you many of the tools and resources needed for healing. I can work with you to increase self-awareness and acceptance, to effectively implement skills, and to change problematic behavioral or relational patterns. I recognize that it is incredibly uncomfortable to sit in a room with a stranger and talk about parts of your self and your life that you normally keep hidden. I am not here to pass judgment. In fact, my goal is to help you find a more balanced way of viewing yourself and others, to ultimately free you to pursue the life you want.

I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings with a variety of clients and bring decades of experience to the therapy room. I have taught at colleges and am a published author. My private practice focuses on individual therapy with adults, with a special emphasis on PTSD and other anxiety disorders. I believe every client and his or her situation is unique. I do not believe a one-size fit all approach to therapy. I may use EMDR, cognitive-behavioral, solution-oriented and even plain old common sense and humor in our work together. I consider therapy a joint effort, a partnership, a "We're in this together" experience.
