I assist individuals to change their thought patterns, re-frame their choices, and create accountability to empower new life choices. *Not currently accepting new clients.* I enjoy working from an integrative approach, meaning I believe there is no one therapeutic modality that suits every client. However, underlying most of my approaches is an attachment perspective. Sadly, far too many of our relationships fall short of giving us a sense of being loved and belonging. We end up living too much of our lives caught in our own or other's perfectionism, passivity, anger, fear, judgment, shame, withdrawal, disinterest, betrayal, abuse, or worse. The harder we try to rid our relationships of these problems, the more unloved and alone we feel. I specialize in working with college-age women who have depression or anxiety. I work frequently with people who have low self-esteem and problems communicating effectively with others. I also utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and work with clients to address recurring patterns of negative interaction as well as the underlying thoughts and emotions that drive these patterns.

We provide a range of psychological evaluations in Harrisonburg–for children, teens, and adults. Assessments for dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia (learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math). We also provide evaluations for ADHD and autism. And, because many of our clients also struggle with anxiety, depression, or similar, we can help sort out how these impact day-to-day functioning. People come to us for different reasons. For some, it’s simply understanding. Maybe why reading takes so long, why writing is so stressful, or why relationships don’t click. For others, it’s not just understanding but also help. To make friends, to keep a scholarship that’s on the rocks, or to simply not cry during math homework every single night. We are a small but growing practice, and we value providing personalized service for families at a reasonable price. Together, we have extensive experience in the schools and our goal is to help families navigate complex systems and to provide families and teachers with a concrete and personalized road-map to success.

I am a Board Certified counselor in private practice 26 years, with offices in both Harrisonburg and Luray VA. I love working with people who are motivated to make positive changes in their lives. I am comfortable addressing a wide range of client concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting concerns, domestic violence, and both men's and women's specific issues. While I am convinced of the value of medication, I also believe that certain techniques can lead to permanent changes in the brain. I find that exciting! In addition to my private practice, I am also the director of a Batterers Intervention Program, working with perpetrators of domestic violence that includes both physical and emotional abuse. This program holds separate groups for both men and women.

Krystle Landes is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Virginia and Texas. Throughout her life, Krystle has been drawn to the helping professions, and through her own personal therapy journey, she discovered her passion for providing that level of support to others. Since then, she has provided services for young children, adolescents, and adults with some areas of focus regarding shifting behavioral issues, supporting emotional regulation, providing crisis stabilization, and healing relational rupture. Her most recent work was grounded in an evidence-based program that supported children and families who were at risk of being placed outside of their homes due to risky behaviors. During Krystle’s time in this program, she supported her clients using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), structural family therapy, and strategic family therapy. Krystle strives to provide a safe and secure space to allow her clients to process growth and transformation. The therapy journey is unique to each individual and even though she grounds her work in theory, she recognizes that there is no cookie-cutter approach to facilitating change. Krystle tailors her approach to each of her clients.

Currently full but please contact me to join my waiting list. As a counselor, I take an Interpersonal Process approach to therapy, wherein the client/counselor relationship can serve as a springboard for personal transformation in daily life. Together we will consider your unique journey including relationships, identity, and culture to build a layered picture of who you are as an individual, and within the world around you. When relevant, we will consider significant traumatic experiences you may have gone through, as well as childhood and adult attachment patterns and how those play out in your relationships today. My experience ranges from four years as director of a counseling center for survivors of sexual violence, to working in a university counseling center. As a trained Swahili interpreter and advocate for immigrants and refugees, I also counsel those who have survived the traumas of war and who have been targets for racial, gender-based or political violence. Whether you are seeking counseling for the first time, or are looking to pick up where you last left off, I welcome your calls and inquiries. Please note that I am not accepting new clients at this time but am happy to add your name to my waiting list.
