Some of the emotional dis-regulation we see in adolescence is the teen figuring out how to express themselves, in their own unique way, with their peers, their family, and in terms of social justice. Teens want to be understood, to be accepted, however they often do not want to work hard to help you understand them. View 10 Photos Understanding our identity is one of the primary drives of adolescence and certainly one where I stumbled. This is important work for me personally so connecting and mentoring youth in how to find their voice and share it meaningfully is rewarding. This time in life is such a challenge! The teen is heading toward the pressures of high school and beyond while the family is trying to manage their growing independance. I'm here to bridge the divide, to understand and support these changes.

I have worked with many clients with all types of eating disorders, as well as the many co-occurring disorders that go along with them. I also have a sub-specialty in working with those who self-injure or who may feel suicidal. I specialize in cognitive behavioral techniques, as well as am trained in dialectical behavioral therapy. As I am only one person, and DBT takes a full team of professionals, I cannot offer adherent or "gold-standard" DBT, but I am full trained in it and can weave in DBT skills. I also incorporate some Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when appropriate.

I am so excited that you are interested in finding out more about therapy! Undertaking therapy is a way to show kindness to yourself, a way to identify beliefs that may no longer serve you. I have seen firsthand what a difference therapy can make in my own life and in the lives of my clients. Consider self-talk, for example. What we tell ourselves day in and day out has a direct effect on how we experience our lives. We take our assumptions for the truth. Our thoughts affect the way we feel and the way we behave. Understanding this is an important starting point for therapy. I work with adults (18+). As a client-centered therapist, I will support you in reaching your goals and helping you identify and question anything that would stand in the way. Our sessions may include a variety of modalities and techniques including Inquiry-Based Stress Reduction (The Work of Byron Katie), and other evidence-based therapy. In my practice, I create a safe, non-judgmental space for clients. I am a native of Tokyo, but the United States has been my home for the majority of my adult life. I have found my multicultural background to be a profound asset as it enables me to understand and relate to the cultural differences of my clients as well as help support them in overcoming.
